      weird drink

      • Mixes well with coke no sugar, the two warring flavours knock each other out.

    • Didn’t realise they were selling alcohol, I guess it didn’t work out…

    goes well with fries

    So THAT'S the special sauce!

  • any McDs face masks available too?

      What about Ronald McCondoms?

If you watched Super Size Me, eating Macdonald's is a form of contraception of you eat it regularly.

      • Probably would save the government a fortune in healthcare if McDonald’s did give out condoms. Growth rate in Australia is declining though, so maybe more STIs is worth the cost if it brings in more babies.

  • Do you need to make a purchase at the counter?

  • Is this free sanitiser available in every store?

    • +4

No not at every store, my local one wanted to charge me $3 for it

  • -3

Pretty greedy of them to start with selling these really expensive when demand was high. Now they over stocked and handing them out for good will.

Its like all those asian grocery stores bulking buying masks and selling them $50 to $100 for a pack of 50 and then later handing them out for free or selling them for $10 a box cos they over bought.

I was a business man doing business.

    • seems like you hit a nerve with that comment

    • +10

The irony of complaining about a tenet of capitalism while on a website dedicated to purchasing anything you can.

    • +1

Mate I had a 70L stockpile of isopropyl alcohol in the garage from pre-pandemic that inevitably became a massive income for me. Must have made like $2k off that at least when everyone was panic buying it on eBay to make their own hand sanitisers

        Username checks out

Supply and demand. Jewellery stores would be handing out their solid gold rings cheap or free if someone invented a free way to duplicate gold as many times as they want. But when gold is scarce they dole out the rings with the large prices the market currently bears? What’s up with that?

The McDonalds hand sanitiser was for Ronald McDonald House which is a charity (ethics of a charity associated with a for-profit business are a different discussion).

If it was about greed they would've kept the profits for themselves.

    their

    • The first thing I thought when I read the post. Thanks

    "1 50ml hand sanitiser please".

"Sure, do you want fries with that"?

    • I think soft serve is cheaper

      (or ketchup)

  • Whatever you do, don't drink it. It's not a new flavour of soft drink.

    • It is if you're brave enough.

Goes good as a sundae topping

    • +11

Only if you don't want to see the next Sundae

  • +7

I think if this can lure you to Macca's you need to take a look at your life lol .

    • +1

Did you forget which website you're on?

  • +8

Bought too much thinking they could keep selling it for $3 each and profiting off the pandemic.

Now that its close to expiring, they are giving it away.

    How nice of them.

    • +2

      the sanitizers expire?

      or is Covid expiring??

      • +1

        Both?

        • Maybe just the sanitizers, most of us don't have the vaccine yet

          • @Serapis: hehe good point. Exciting times though for when we are all vaccinated :D

      • The alcohol content of santisers eventually dissipates. Over time their alcohol content % drops to the point where its less and less effective…. so yes, they do expire.

    • Prefer them to throw it in the landfill?

  • +3

Only way they're going to shift it.

Considering Bunnings are selling 1L for $1, and Maccas were selling these 50mL bottles for $3-3.95.

To match Bunnings they'd have to be selling them for 5c each.

    • +1

The Bunnings one is notorious for smelling like crap though. No idea on what these ones smell like but it has to be better.

      • It smells like your run of the mill hand sanitizer.

Source: my brother gave me 5 of these

    • I think that Macca's management had the foresight to stock essentials like milk and bread and this stuff just in case the govt got hard on essential businesses .
It would have been great to see Kmart , Target and others try to do the same to get around potential regulations coming at that time :)

  • i'm loving it

  • +5

Yes, we are giving away the bottles for free.
Mainly up to the discretion of staff. If customers are rude, then we don't have to give it out.
Just be nice, and you an almost have as many as you want :)

Edit: Only for stores that have crazy amounts of stock, otherwise they might be finding other ways to lower stock

    • They should be giving it with orders? Or we have to awkwardly request for it??

  • do we just ask for it at the counter?

    • bang your fist down on the counter and with a loud hostile tone demand it…. its your right as an ozbargainer

  • Free booze?! :o

    • combine with 1/4 pounder hack for a great cheap night in!
