  • Poor energy rating, unknown Chinese brand. no thanks.

    Akai?

That reminds me, I need to return some video tapes.

AKAI was a well-known Japanese name. To see it be re-used as a Chinese brand brings much sadness.

    • +3

When I was a kid, we had a AKAI VCR and Audio Hifi system and it was rock solid and comparable to Sony Panasonic and Pioneer (LG was called Gold Star at that time and was considered to be a lower quality !)

      • They used to make good walkmans too!

  • Exactly. They were a great Japanese quality name, now just used on cheap Chinese junk.

Same with MG cars - no longer British, just Chinese cars.

  • Why only few items are only marked for After Pay payment @ Appliances online . For long eyeing a fridge but no After Pay means no bargain

I recommend that you purchase the Akai 6 door Hi-Fi NICAM Stereo Fridge instead. The more heads, Oops sorry doors the better.

I thought it was Japanese AKAI and got excited.
    Unfortunately it is not.
In my days AKAI made top notch quality equipment.
Those days gone. So did the quality. Oh well.

Also, I take my H47 0FF to this deal.

  • Bought the Seiki branded version of this fridge from Appliances Online a couple of months ago, quite happy with it. It's extremely quiet, keeps everything cold. We knew it was a bit of a risk, buying an unknown Chinese brand, but it's one that seems to have paid off.
It appears the same fridge is sold under Seiki, AKAI and Sharp brands.

  • Hey, is there any other deals on Ebay that is Akai branded but French Door as I am in the market. I will use the search on this site but just incase anyone else has received a good deal lately. Thanks

  • We just got this one last week for around $950 with the $100 off eBay coupon, works great and isn't loud.

The main thing we looked for was the depth and most french door fridges are 700mm~ this one is a tad smaller and fits perfectly into where we needed it to go.
It's a pretty solid build, glass shelves (door shelves are non-adjustable), adjustable airflow via a toggle for the crisper/chiller.
Seems like it was the same fridge sold at Aldi a while ago under the "Sterling" brand.

Lots of hate on these Chinese fridges, but it's been doing a great job so far and the build quality of the stainless is very good without almost no smudge marks after a week of use.

    • Yup its Chinese but many of the other big brands also outsource most of their components to the Chinese manufacturers anyways.

As long as AKAI can provide good customer service they should do decently

  • Ended up buying the Sterling one from aldi a year ago due to wanting a French door but was limited in depth in the hole for it.
12 months in no issues, it's quiet, works, keeps veggies fresh for weeks longer than I expected so am happy with the purchase. Wished I could fit the mistubishi in the kitchen but it wasn't to be.
