Help Me Complete My Gaming PC

Fellow Ozbargainers,

I am doing the unthinkable in 2021. A DIY Gaming PC. This will be my first assembly of this, or any kind of PC for that matter, thanks to AfterPay deals. Please help me finish the build. This will be just a home/gaming rarely editing rig and I do not have any special requirements. I also won't be tweaking/overclocking it. Looking to keep it for a few years to come possibly a GPU upgrade in 2 years time.

So far I have already bought:

CPU - Intel 10700k - $360
Motherboard - MSI z590 PRO WIFI Motherboard - $275
PSU - Corsair RM850x - $170
GPU - GALAX GeForce RTX 3070 SG - $1150
Monitor - Xiaomi Widescreen 34'' Curved 144Hz - $300
Keyboard - Razer Blackwidow Chroma V2 - $115

Choosing these were easy, I knew what I wanted. The next bit there are so many options I don't know what I want. Below are a few I am looking into.
Any other suggestions are most welcome.

RAM
$159 - Team T-Force Vulcan Z 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz CL16 - Centrecom
$211 - Patriot Viper Steel Series DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz CL18 - Amazon
$189 - Team T-FORCE Delta RGB 32GB (2x16GB) - Centrecom

Case - Definitely should have a USB-C header on the front - unfortunately no cheap + good RGB case with USB-C front
$169 - be quiet! Pure Base 500DX - Umart
$129 - Corsair Carbide 4000D Airflow - Umart
$139 - NZXT H510 - Umart
$179 - be quiet! Silent Base 801 - No USB-C - Umart
$129 - Cougar MX660 T RGB E-ATX (although cheap, not sure about the quality) - ComputerAlliance

SSD
$98.99 - Crucial P5 500GB - Amazon
$85 - Kingston 500GB A2000 M.2 - Amazon
$75 - Crucial P1 500GB - Amazon

CPU Cooler (water cooler would look nice but I don't mind a fan cooler either)
$82 - Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L RGB V2 - Amazon
$119 - Noctua NH-U9S - Umart
$119 - be quiet! Dark Rock 4 CPU Cooler - Scorptec

Cheers !

for the ram id get 16gb patriot, i think 19-19-19 is b-die and good for oc (from memory)
4000d airflow but get it from centrecom it has free shipping so can save some money, i think 3$ for insurance too, with the saving it may be worthwhile getting a 5000d or upping your ssd

re cooling, if your going to oc id get a aio if your gona keep it at stock or say 4.9 both bottom coolers will do, id check clearance and get a Noctua D15 thou or the bequiet equivalent

    edit: https://www.mwave.com.au/product/deepcool-gammaxx-l360-v2-rg…

good option, i use this one with aftermarket fans, i went this cooler because of tube length

edit 2: on the be quiet cooler you've got you can save 12 bucks if you log into your scorptech account and put in OCAU in the members code
    showing 107 for me

    • Thanks mate. Unfortunately the delivery is $14 on Scorptec.

RAM: Viper - either B die or Rev E, either way it'll run 3600 and you can play with it to your heart's content

Case: Either Silent Base 801 or 4000D-Airflow, 4000D is a great case but the 801 has awesome stock fans and noise deadening

SSD: P5 is a great performer at that price.

CPU Cooler: Dark Rock 4. Go big or go home (especially with the 10700K, heat is killer on those things because of the density and core design)

    • Just realised Silent Base 801 has no USB-C front header :(

      • Get 802, has usb c and front mesh.
I have 801 and have to keep front panel open when gaming otherwise my water cooled gpu temp rises 20C.

        • 802 is like $250 with shipping :( What do you think about the PURE BASE 500DX?

Dark Rock Pro 4 if he actually wants to go big (that cooler is massive), the regular Dark Rock 4 is a fair bit smaller, although I'd say it'd still be enough for the 10700K as it's one of the best CPU coolers.
@OP Dark Rock 4 is $119 with free delivery at Amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/quiet-BK021-Extremely-Cooling-Perf…
Another option for a chunky cooler you may like to consider - Scythe Fuma 2

  • case - https://www.centrecom.com.au/lian-li-lancool-ii-performance-…

    ssd - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/607145

You'll be good with any cpu cooler, personally i'd get a cheaper one then upgrade to a noctua when they have a sale

  • Says "1 x USB 3.1 TYPEC (Optional)" in the spec sheet of the case. Also doesnt show the port on the website.

The Pure Base 500DX is great value. Exellent airflow with 3 included fans. Good CPU cooler clearance. Pretty quiet. Has RGB strips inside and outside the case. Build quality is pretty good.

    Nice scores on the parts!

Ram - I like the look of the patriot 4400mhz that you see deals on here quite a bit. I wouldn't mind getting some and playing around with it.

SSD - Get at least 1tb - 500gb isn't much these days - 2 big games and an OS basically. Some of the samsung deals on here got me looking lately. I would probably get 2 980 1tb and run them in raid just so I could see the 13gbps read speeds.

CPU cooler - I'd probably just jump on the noctua bandwagon, enough said.

    • Thanks mate, what do you recommend in the case department?

  • +1

    I would go for the NZXT H510 + Noctua NH-U9S + Crucial P5 500GB + Patriot Viper Steel Series DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz CL18

  • Kingston SSD for the win, but yes, go for 1TB you will fill it up quick
