OnePlus 8 Pro 5G Glacial Green (Global Version) 12GB+256GB $1,084.22 $1,092.54 + Delivery ($0 with Prime)

Hmmm, this, or wait for the OnePlus 9 to push down the 8 Pro prices…..

    • If you want 120hz refresh, HDR, and a dedicated zoom lens (and better camera system overall) I'd wait for the Pro.
I went for the 8 cause I wanted something lighter and suitable for 1 handed use.

      • +54

        suitable for 1 handed use.

        ಠ_ಠ

      • +1

I keep waiting and waiting….. Since oneplus 6t haven't upgraded to anything. The phone still works and gcam gives me decent pictures.

I can't justify the purchase for 1k over for an upgrade….

Want one with no punch hole same as oneplus 7

    • +1

Same thoughts especially since I am looking to replace a Pixel and my major worry is how good the camera is going to be. I've had the OP1, 3 and 6 before, the only bugbear has been the mediocre camera. I've heard good things about the OP8 Pro while this is a pretty good price for a phone that still is extremely well loaded

      • Agreed. I was pretty set on the 8 Pro for the wireless charging too. Must resist this one.

      • What Pixel do you currently have?

        • +1

2xl, I traded my OP6 for the 2xl simply for the camera and IP rating

      • from reviews it doesnt have a good camera, its like the old oneplus mediocre camera. which has stopped me from pulling the trigger on this

        • has someone tried loading the GCam Mods on OP versions?

      • I've also heard good things about oneplus 8 pro but the price is too high when you compare to Xiaomi POCO F3 5G SD 870 for less than $500.

If I can mod or flash the Xiaomi and have GCam on it I would forgo Oneplus completely

Pro series but only in glacial green. Obviously, more expensive.

  • likely gonna pickup a phone soon. was originally looking at oppo find x2 neo for around the $500-$600 price tag. anyone have an opinion?

    • I like OnePlus software better than Oppo… If you are going for the OnePlus, I'd listen to the others on this thread and wait until the OnePlus 9 pushes the 8 Series prices down

    • +1

Can't speak to the Oppo, but I recently broke my Oneplus 6 and have been using a Mi 9T since then, and I can't wait to get back to OnePlus/Oxygen OS, it's brilliant. I've just been waiting for the 9 announcement to see what that'll do to the 8/8 Pro pricing.

      • +4

you can speak to the oppo just say "hey google"

      • +3

Still rocking my Oneplus 6. Has been a beast of a phone and still stacks up to the stats of new mid range phones. Will be definitely getting a 8 pro when the price come down if im not tempted by the 9's.

        • How's the battery going though? I love the phone but the battery stinks.

          • @eraser215: I get a day out of it with just web browsing most of the day. Nothing special but pretty standard for its age and tech its rocking from 3-4years ago.

Value for money back then was what they were known for and yes people complain that the Pro series is flagship money these days but it looks worth it. Even at $1k for the Pro there are plenty of comparisons to it and the notes which are quite a bit more money so still good value. The 9 pro will be awesome if its true they have teamed up with that swiss camera company.

      • I dont know man, Ive been using a mi 9t for a year and like the software contrary to the hivemind

        • did you notice a big battery dive with the last firmware / software update?

my battery life suddenly halfed or dropped by a third at least

    • well oneplus has a better chipset i.e. SD865. but, camera is mediocre, not sure how good the oppo neo camera is

      • Interesting. I know the Pro gets rave reviews for its cameras besides the silly colour overlay one it comes with.

      • it's got a solid camera. some of its drawbacks are no dual sim among a few other things. no mid range has it all. i mean that's kinda the point at the price point

      • The camera is still better than that of a galaxy s7 edge right? The wife's s7 just died and this looks like a good replacement.

  • +4

Looks like Oneplus 9 being announced in 12 hours, will have to hold out.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/adlp/oneplus?pf_rd_r=60GXME43CHP6SA…

    • Not gonna be cheap nor will be available to be purchase at reasonable price for another 6-8 months. There we go more waiting again. Been telling myself last 2.5 years

      Still a 6T user here

  • is there going to be import tax on this?

    • +1

No it already includes GST cause it's through Amazon AU

      • Do you know what the invoice looks like? Is it "Legal" enough to claim TRS on? Does it explicitly say "imported from overseas" or anything like that?

  • Any deals on these pro 5g?

  • +7

I'd be careful with OnePlus nowadays if you want timely stable updates. I have a 7T and still waiting for Android 11, also those the with 8 series have reported many bugs with Android 11.

    • -1

Jump on the open beta , I've never experienced a bug on three different OnePlus models , definately worth a look if you want A11

      • +1

never jump on the open beta !

    • 7T pro just had Android 11 stable drop. Hopefully 7T and 7pro will follow soon.

    • 7T owner and got OOS 11 last night. We were all surprised. I have the Chinese variant flashed EU. Use oxygen updater if you must.

Other than that, I agree of the lack of timely updates but it seems it's true for a lot of android manufacturers with only Samsung and Google doing some leg work.

Tempted although with the 9 release around the corner holding off until a price drop would be better?

    • This or the 9 Pro??

      • Faster charging, adaptive refresh rate, better camera, 45w wireless charging, much better photos

Will cost a lot more, ultimately up to you but I know I'm going to get 9 pro

        • Any estimates on the price for 9 Pro? Looking to sell my (barely) used S21 Ultra and get a 9 Pro. The battery life of the ultra is absolutely pathetic

          • @Omk4r123: I have no clue but I feel around $1300-$1400 aud

Heaps of people hate these prices for oneplus but I mean spec wise it's better than Samsung, actually has a snapdragon not enyxnos and now will have a more powerful camera

Edit- also oxygen os has way less bloatware than samsung

            • @BenTheBargainer2013: $1300-1400 is definitely a long way away from the pricing of their first phones, which is why people don't like them. For me personally, it's still much less than what Samsung and Apple sell their phones for. I could easily sell my S21 Ultra for ~$1500 (512gb model).

I originally went to Samsung after 6 years of OnePlus because I wanted official 5G support in Australia. But there's no use of 5G support if the battery doesn't even last me half a day.

              • @Omk4r123: I'm a late adopter to oneplus so bias, the specs for me are awesome though and I moved from iPhone

I remember you could a top of the line iPhone for like $1200-$1500 now it's double

I swear the specs are so much better than apple too with apple only beating it in photography

              • @Omk4r123: $1069 USD

          • @Omk4r123: Guess it depends on how you use the phone, With lite use my Note8 still gets through a day and the S21 ultra is packing a way bigger battery. I use a lot of the added features samsung adds so can't see myself going for oneplus at this price when you can get a s21 fe

        • 9 pro is $1600 AUD,

          • @AussieMark: Do you reckon it's worth the extra ~$500 AUD over the 8 pro?

            • @Omk4r123: I'm debating the same thing myself hahah

I think it depends if you plan to upgrade in a year or two

              • @AussieMark: For me, I'm inclined towards the 8 Pro right now, because it doesn't look like the 9 Pro will be coming down in price anytime soon.

Plus, the new processors and all are great, but I don't need that much power in the phone. Even the Snapdragon 835 in my OP5T was doing great.

Camera-wise, I don't really take many pictures, so it's kinda wasted on me. The 8 Pro's camera holds its own against most other flagship devices.

In terms of the LTPO display, it hasn't brought much of an improvement on my S21 Ultra, the battery life is still pretty shit. Plus, battery capacity hasn't increased at all. Faster charging isn't that important for me, I just plug the phone in when I wake up, and it's usually fully charged by the time I leave.

Plus, the 8 Pro leaves me with at least $500 AUD in pocket.

Debating between this and the recent POCO F3 deal for AU$427.93, what are people's thoughts?

    • -2

      when i see my wallet, i don't think it's a problem

  • +10

If you are buying this, don't expect to be able to use 5g. For me & plenty of others, it didn't work out of the box in Australia.

It's not a compatibility issue with networks.

I went through a tedious process and did get it working but then any OS update breaks it again.

To get 5g working you have to replace a couple of system files (xml) via a debug tool, which isn't something the average user wants to do…

Bought this exact phone/listing from Amazon AU / UK in December.

    • +1

It appears to be a global problem with 5G across OnePlus phones. Not sure if Oppo is consolidating OnePlus, it's quite unfortunate
      https://forums.oneplus.com/search/520330066/?q=5g&o=date&c[title_only]=1

    • +1

Second that ….5g , volte and vowifi. All of these Need XML files to be modified to get it going.

    • I'm about to buy this phone,
How tedious is the fox and what did you have to do?
Thank you in advance, any help will be greatly appreciated

      • If you aren't a "Tech" person, I would not recommend doing it, it's a 14 step process, if it even works.

I started from maybe this comment, make sure you are on the comment from jhoon_09 and start there..
        https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/no-5g-connection-8-pro-au…

It's a rough ride from there, what worked in the end wasn't exactly as it's described there and I think I needed a very specific version of one of the tools before half of the process even worked.

Definitely a lot of stuffing around, hours, maybe you will get lucky.

This other link was also useful
        https://mt-tech.fi/en/modify-oneplus-7-pro-5g-8-and-8-pro-nr…

Then, after the next OS update you will have to do it again.

        • omg you are making me real nervous about this purchase, I really want this phone.
I'm getting it from becextech which is even cheaper than the amazon one for the one plus 8 pro.
do you know which model you got as I read up you wont get 5G issues you have been experiencing if you get the (IN2020) model. its still CN version with global rom but its that certain model thats better. can you confirm what u got

          • @danvo: make sure you use the $15 off at the bottom of the banner

I'd feel more comfortable buying from amazon personally even if its $100 more but thats me

            • @AussieMark: yeah i saw that extra $15 off too and ready to use it, I read in alot of forum people buying from becextech with no issue.

          • @danvo: my comments are related to the OnePlus 8, IN2013 EU version.

Unfortunately, the post was updated to include other phones.

I do not have an 8 Pro and will not comment on them

It's not "5g issues" as you put it, it simply is not provisioned to work. And it's common. Just look at the thread I linked, it's from the middle of last year

            • @nismo: yea I've been reading in some forum and they say if you get the CN version IN2020 model, 4G and 5G have been working in Australia.
This one on amazon is the global edition so should be even safer from what I've been reading on so I dont know, haha
Seems like if you get the CN version IN2020 model its still good to go

  • Is this better than the Oppo Reno 5g?

  • -5

    just get S21 for $1200..?

  • +1

tempting… I had ummed about one of these a few months back(they were sub 1k AUD like 940 ish). Waiting to see what the 9 brings, also the oppo x3 pro looks great. Moving from my Pixel 4XL and im not sold that google is going in the right direction i mean the 5 wasnt what i was hoping it would be (i have a nexus 5 in my drawer and it still works so i love the old nexus but the pixel 5 just wasnt that).

    • i went nexus then pixel 1 and pixel 2 then stopped

I kept buying the pixel 3,4 and 5 but it wasnt what i was hoping for either so ended up selling them

Also google stopping photo storage on the new phones is a bit lame.

Overall love google but dont quite get why their phones are going downhill and i cannot quite put my finger on what i didnt like about it. Just the general feel and my expectations were a bit higher perhaps

      • Funny enough the pixel 4xl was the one i liked best of all the pixels, enough to finally buy but now i have zero motivation to go to the new ones.

  • Anyone have experience on the audio quality (using OnePlus Bullets) on OP8?

  • Anyone think this will drop to sub $500 not long after the release of OP9?

    • Very unlikely. Don't see 7T at that pricepoint

  • +1

Long time oneplus fan here but i would think twice about the oneplus 8 because of the curved screen. My wife has it and i prefer my oneplus nord to it.

  • +1

Might be time to upgrade from the Oneplus 3!

  • +7

I really wish the would just officially sell these here…

  • 'The OnePlus 9 will use Oppo’s ColorOS in China' - https://www.theverge.com/2021/3/22/22344054/oneplus-9-oppo-c…

USA or UK version better for AUS people?

    • +1

I had the 8 pro for a month . Brilliant phone , but the non compatibility with Aussie carriers ruined it for me. No volte or vowifi out of the box .had to tinker a lot to get it going only for an update to get it back to square one again . If you don't mind the tinkering then go for it.

      • I already tinkered enough with huawei mate 30 pro before returning it

Then they refunded a closed credit card and citibank kept pretending they never received the money

      • Yeah right keep the negs coming 🤣

        • +1

          ? Who negged you

I just feel tired after that huawei experience so I probably won't do that again haha

          • -2

@AussieMark: Haha 🤣…dunno some lowlife .I hear ya. But my experience with the p30 pro which was my previous phone was flawless. Just the OnePlus. Brilliant phone but cannot use it without changing those XML files in Australia. If you're not bothered about volte and vowifi then go for it. For me those were very important as I use my phone for work.

            • @Geez: p30 is amazing and it has google support

huawei mate 30 pro or mate 40 pro no google support or play store etc so its a bit of a slog

            • @Geez: if p40 pro had google support id get that for sure hah

              • @AussieMark: Same here ….I'll get another Huawei in a flash. Just brilliant . Pity it had to end that way.

                • @Geez: not the end…. huawei will be inside you again soon… I mean your pocket

And google will be inside you too…It will be crowded inside your pants but you will feel happy (inside your huawei)

                  • @AussieMark: Still have hopes? I don't trust the yanks .

      • how did you get it to work?
I really want to get one, please help and guide me to get it working.
Are you still using the one plus 8 now?
        Greatly appreciated

  • Damnit took too long to decide.
