How are these in comparison to the craftsman variants? Anyone?

You're a fool if you truly believe that.

You obviously don't know them personally

Goodyear-welted boots hold up for way longer than glue soled ones. Both in terms of the material and construction quality. It's a choice between a boot that can last for years and years or a boot that'll fall apart after 6 months.

          • +9

@jv: Eh, its not always about what you see.

Yep, its also what you pay…

@jv: Obviously for someone like you who values how people see your footwear that’s an important consideration. For those of us who see quality as more important then not so much

@Icecold5000: Not everyone here is ostentatious…

That's fine. They don't bother me.

              • @jv: Stop whining about what other people wear and how you can’t afford and make more money if you want to indulge in life’s luxuries. You can thank me later when you’ve succeeded in life sufficiently enough not to consider Lowes’ as high rolling.

Stop whining about what other people wear

I'm not. Just showing you that you can buy practically the same thing for 10% of the price.

                  • -1

@jv: Stop whining. I understand you need to budget but your poverty does not extend to many others here.

                      @Icecold5000: It's about bargains, not budget…

                        • @Icecold5000: Yeah, most of us pay for food…

You're still using the Salvos van I see?

                          • @jv: How can you see what I’m doing since you live in Melbourne while I reside in Sydney?

                            • @Icecold5000: I have informers everywhere…

                              • @jv: You can’t even afford a pair of mid range quality boots

          • @jv: You feet will feel it for sure.

            • @Laziofogna: Only if you don't buy the right size…

        • +1

Yeah but the sole will wear down before the glue falls apart. I like RMs. Have gone through maybe 12 pairs if not more before they hit marketing gold and hiked prices to insane levels. What I valued was the leather sole. Rubber soles go on cheap boots.

        Happy Easter jv

        • I hope the easter bunny brings you lots of chocolate eggs.

      • Why would you say something so brave?

        • Because truth requires courage sometimes…

          • @jv: I am going to empty my Bosch Dishwasher ( made by Guangdong Vanbo Electric Co) and Jump in my Lexus (Toyota), mind you I had some issues and had to use my Snap On tools (Wanda Tool Company, Hangzhou) to fix it. but rest assured I will be buying the Genuine boots not some cheap copy. Thank you very much.

Do you know where I can buy some RM William tags?

Do you know where I can buy some RM William tags?

              You don't need them.
Nobody will be able to tell the difference when you have them on.

              • @jv: I keep my tag outside and my jeans in for that very reason…

            • +1

@OhPee: Out the back door in Adelaide. Look for the worker Bruce.

      • +1

I can tell the difference. So you're wrong, yet again.

        • -2

          I can tell the difference.

          You must be nobody then…

          My statement stands…

          • +1

@jv: Your statement stands with wrangled feet after wearing Kmart boots

      • If you can't see the difference in last shape, then you clearly do not have eyes.

      • I bet you that most of those who are buying this are not really caring about what someone else thinks about it.

      • You aren't buying these shoes because of the look. Do you understand what build quality is?

You the type of guy that'll buy twenty umbrellas a year when one good one will do.

        • -1

You aren't buying these shoes because of the look.

That's all that other people see…

          • @jv: Ah my bad, I forgot that everything in life needs to be centered around what people see and not how it is for the individual.

        • You the type of guy that'll buy twenty umbrellas a year when one good one will do

My $10 umbrella is still going strong after almost 20 years…

    • +11

To actually give you an answer, they’re just a lower cut version, perhaps better suited to warmer months than the craftsman. IMO, unless you’re after a Chelsea, you’re better off buying Carmina or a pair of Church’s on sale. Save a bit more even and get some Crockett and Jones. Much better quality and design, but each to their own

      • In addition to the lower cut of the boot, the elastic side gussets are slightly shorter. They don’t go all the way up as they do on the craftsman. There is also no pull tab on the front of the boot.
I think it’s designed to be sleeker and more urban looking. Also lighter weight for summer months.

      • Crockett and Jones are double the price of RMs mate

      • Are Crockett and Jones really much better? I always thought of them are around a similar quality

RM's designs are very iconic, particularly the craftsman which IMO is the only square toe Chelsea that actually looks good.

        • I completely agree and also think they look good. As do Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig so who am I to judge.

To cut a long story short, my CJs held up a lot longer than my RMs did and continue to do so. I had a Craftsman purchased from RMs online store and am comparing them to the CJ Tetbury, which I got for around the same price. I wouldn’t pay retail for CJs however, as it’s out of my budget.
One big advantage for RMs though is that you can send them back to the factory for repair. Doing that for CJs will cost around $300 I think, and it’s hard to trust/find an appropriate cobbler outside of Melbourne and Sydney.

          • @The Almighty Dollar: How long did your RM's last for? What happened to them?

I'd be really unhappy if my RM's didn't last a few decades

        • I'm not seeing the additional 10% - tried 2 accounts

Anyone successful in seeing the additional 10% off?

          • @justjack: I can't see the 10% off either. So not sure if expired or I need to be an even more special member.

              • @RogueWolf: I did. Even tried different sizes (not that it should matter)

Guys figured it out - if your Djs account is opted out of emails you won't be eligible for member rewards - unfortunately it's too late to update now as it takes time for it to come in effect.

    Not worth it at all.

    • -8

Typically the people who buy these drive Land Rovers, are MCC Members and follow the Melbourne footy club…

      • I drive a Subaru, don't know what's an MCC member, and don't follow footy. But I'd buy this in the blink of an eye if the looks appealed to me.

        • -1

But I'd buy this in the blink of an eye if the looks appealed to me.

          Did you buy it then?

          • @jv: If I could come to terms with the looks, I would buy it. In other words, no. :-(

            • @CocaKoala:

If I could come to terms with the looks

              So you can't ?

      • Lol I don't drive that either and hate rugby and AFL.
I bought my pair of kangaroo craftsman. Hoping it will last a long time with proper care.

    • Not worth it to those who see $400 as a lot of money. For others $400 is pocket change and worth the spend.

  • +1

They're sizing is whack - I believe RM Williams gives you choices on fitting. Not sure how you'd do that with this.

    • +3

I'm hesitant to buy handmand shoes online. When I replace my 20 year old RMs, I expect I'll pay store price to test fit.

  • These are for men, any womens?

    • +1

They have 25% off but not the extra 10.

      • Yea I saw those. Might need to wait for another sale.

FYI, I bought a pair of RM last weekend from theIconic, and received a completely different style and size… The box looks like second handed. Very disappointed and returned them next morning via post. Still waiting for the refund :(

        • Really? I was looking to buy from there as I have a few credits left. This doesn't sit well :(

          • @BuyNowThinkLater: I bought women's and got men's, I mean if you are after men's might be ok? But I don't trust iconic any more..

            • @babylu66: Perhaps you ordered the wrong ones?

Having said that, they once sent me the wrong jeans and compensated me.

              • @solidice: I have checked my order, they definitely made mistake

              • @solidice: The box says size6, but inside is a size 9

  • Low profile and shortened shaft, just what I need!

    • +2

A longer shaft is always better

  • Are these good for wide feet?

    • The Craftsmen tend to be tapered and these look a bit similar, so you would probably need a H (wide) fit. However I believe DJ's only sell G fit which is regular fit, and may be too narrow for a wide foot.
