Thinking about buying one to replace my 3~ year old V30. Loved all my LG phones so far, and I'm still ginger about having to go to a phone that doesn't have a headphone jack (moreover having to buy bluetooth headphones).

It seems my alternatives for a 'premium' smartphone are the Pixels, which seem to be of waning popularity, and an obscenely expensive Galaxy. It seems that a lot of the 'B-range' phones cost roughly as much as this.

For that price, wouldn't you be better to take advantage of the Samsung latest offer with a trade in ???

  • How would this compare to the upcoming Poco F3?

    • Poco F3 has better processor.

LG is getting out of phone business. So expect a fire sale soon.

    • LG marketing is a fkn joke in Australia. Most of their best sellers overseas don't get sold here.

They don't even sell the dual screen accessory for this, the one thing that differentiates it from every other phone.

      Good riddance to them.

      • i don't know why you got negged. LG customer service is bad, their phone G3 G4 are bad and barely got firmware update like Samsung. I won't go back to LG phone if they don't improve

  • LG is really good at making Oled TV's. Even their front loader washers seem pretty good. As a mobile maybe a Oppo X3 ? Telstra needs $69 min for 12mo to allow 5G!

  • I don't even game on my phone for the most part, but the compelling thing about the older phones was that they were a reasonably priced flagship. It's why I bought the V30+ even after a horrible experience with my G4 being replaced twice. What I've quoted below says it all. Camera is also important to me, and this phone's cameras are mediocre in low light. So yeah: Hard pass, unfortunately. I'd rather go with a Realme at the moment. Got my son a Realme 6 and it beats out my V30+ in most ways.

"The Velvet got 19fps on the GFXBench Car Chase Offscreen benchmark and 86fps on the T-Rex Offscreen benchmark, which doesn't measure up even to last year's 855 chip (29fps and 115fps on the LG V50). That said, it's far better than the Snapdragon 710 in the Motorola Razr (13fps and 66fps)."

V50 would be good if you could buy. There may be benefits to a lower clocked mobile cpu which you don't factor in, such as power efficiency.

Buying an older phone that's not going to be running the latest Android in a year or so is not a great strategy unless you're changing phones often.

My v40 still gets updates so you're probably wrong

          • +1

@Budju: My V30+ is stuck on Android 8. It's suppose to go up to 9, but hasn't been released in Aus AFAIK.

I suspect the V40 won't get updates beyond 11. Who knows though. Would be nice if it did.

@syousef: I'm assuming updates will end toward the end of the year meaning 3 years of support. Better than google

              • +1

@Budju: Look I'm hoping you get updates. I don't get anything if you don't. But I'm telling you for previous generations of LG phone we were left out in the cold. So don't count on them.

@syousef: I had the phone two years I'm not worried even slightly.

                  • +1

@Budju: With LG pulling out of phones, people buying today will not be likely to have your good fortune.

@syousef: Maybe, or maybe they get the best phone ever. At least it won't explode in their hand like samsung.

                      • +2

@Budju: Sure, but you do know about LG G4 and other models boot looping right?

I have no idea why you're arguing with me.
