Original Coupon Deal

Stacks with 92JBFIVE to take a further 5% off = $474.05

I posted the 4GB RAM version last time it went on sale but apparently "4gb should not even be allowed to be sold as 'new'". Well, here's the 8GB version:

12" HD (1366 x 912) IPS, WLED-backlit touchscreen display
Intel® Pentium® Silver N5030 processor (1.1 - 3.1GHz)
64GB eMMC storage with 8GB RAM

Charges off USB-C and auto-connects to the same WiFi as your Android device (or to your Android's 4/5G). Perfect, lightweight device for school so you don't have to lug around an MSI/Alienware or risk having your MBP stolen. Bought one, love it.

“4gb should not even be allowed to be sold as new'"

    And neither should eMMC storage…

    • Or 1366x912 screen resolution

      • +1

Nobody is buying a $500 12" chromebook to nitpick about eMMC and 1366x912 resolution, c'mon guys.

        • -1

That is true. Most people are spending less than $300 for that tier of rubbish

        • -1

Most people who buy a $500 laptop (specially one that comes with a Chrome OS) DO want a decent FHD screen and faster storage than this eMMC crap.

          • -3

@MadMaxBargainRoad: If you want a $1k+ laptop then pay $1k+

            • -1

@[Deactivated]: Lol why would I want to pay $1k for a basic task laptop. You are not on OzCharity mate.

              • @MadMaxBargainRoad: Exactly 🤔

                • -1

@[Deactivated]: Nor would I pay $500 for this most basic piece of hardware.

                  • @MadMaxBargainRoad: As I said, find an equal device at a better price.

Until then, idrc what you would spend money on, ChromeOS sales are now outpacing Mac (which I have no bias against, I own 3).

@[Deactivated]: You mean something that takes a 10sec search like this?

                      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/610148

You are still fresh here so be patient and you will learn a thing or two.

ChromeOS is fine for basic tasks nothing less and nothing more.

                      • @MadMaxBargainRoad: Where's the touchscreen and 8GB RAM?

ChromeOS is pretty much Linux, similar to Android. Regardless, most people's needs are basic, but they can still want quality.

C'mon, you're not new here. What's your excuse?

                        • -1

@[Deactivated]: Exactly. I think that's why that deal has more 5x the upvotes.

Since you are so green; here - have a /s.

                          • @MadMaxBargainRoad: Just totally ignoring my points now?

I post a 4GB version for $350 and people complain it's not 8GB. I post an 8GB version and people complains that it costs more than $350.

                            Sooks 🙄

    • +4

It is ChromeOS, not Windows. 4GB was fine.

And eMMC is still faster than a hard drive.

  • +4

I have a chromebook and 4gb ram is surprisingly usable. Remember, they use a very light version of linux with no windows bloat.

  • If the screen was at least 1080p this would be an ok price.

    • +1

      Depends on your use case.

      Here you go, 1080p on a 13" 4GB RAM for $100 more for 169 PPI instead of 136 PPI 12" 8GB RAM:

            • @MadMaxBargainRoad: I don't care if it's deleted or not 🤏

@[Deactivated]: But you really do care though

                • @MadMaxBargainRoad: Then why would I have tried to write off the post in the first place? Then when the mod asked if I wanted it removed I said I don't care.

                  Where's your reasoning?

                    Where's your reasoning?

As I said, just have a read at your own replies.

                    • @MadMaxBargainRoad: I just pointed to my two acts regarding the existence of the post.

                      So, again, what's your reasoning?

You seemed worked up and it's not even your post, Maxie.

      • Its not just about the ppi, some programmes dont scale properly on such low resolutions.

        • Can you please point out some programs that won't scale properly on ChromeOS due to the resolution? I will make a note on the post.

          • @[Deactivated]: Its an issue with android apps, not native chrome apps.

            • @Jenny Death: Such as which apps? I will test them and confirm.

  • Perfect screen for watching Justice League 2021

    • -1

i started watching it, and so far the movie sucks. The CGI (especially when that horned guy is chasing the wonder women army) looks HORRIBLE and the storyline is all over the place.

        • You have a point about excessive whinging by some members here, but why not keep the moral high ground and act more mature than them?

          • @bargaino: There's no loss of moral highground or maturity by trying to opt out of that whinging.

  • +1

I grab my popcorn and wizards hat

  • +1

I used a 4gb Chromebook for six years without any trouble ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • +2

Neither are better, they're just different. That would depend on your personal use. I wrote up some key points for you to consider…

HP Pros: (more of a laptop)
      - Bigger screen
      - Self-supporting screen
      - 8 GB RAM
      - Expandable w/ Card Reader

Lenovo Pros: (more of a tablet)
      - Higher resolution screen
      - Detachable keyboard
      - 128GB SSD Storage

      • I'll add that the Chromebook is not a perfect tablet. If using my X2 in tablet mode, I prefer Android apps. And Android apps prefer 8GB (cos VM) (also, Android apps love the Duet Helios, but for my usage I can't stand the slowdowns with 4GB - even with 8GB I get them occasionally)

  • As a Chromebook owner i would not recommend them at this price

    • The build quality of this one isn't like most Chromebooks.

      • Quality issues aside, chromeos is not worth$500

        • Different strokes for different folks. I use all OS'.

Windows is my favourite for utility, macOS is my favourite for processing photos and videos, Linux is my favourite for programming, but ChromeOS is my favourite for everyday browsing.

          • @[Deactivated]: chrome over firefox or opera?

            • @belongsinforums: I'm running Firefox* on my Note 10+ and also run it on Linux. Safari on mac. Chromium elsewhere.

I use a password manager to sync my passwords, addresses, cards, etc across all of them.

  • -1

Chrome OS, Atom tier CPU, eMMC storage, 720p screen and close to $500.

Nothing personal OP but this is definitely not an ozb worthy deal.

    • 40% off a HP X360 device.

If it's not for you, all good, but if you're going to bother to comment then feel free to be constructive and find something of better value that would meet the same needs of people who are normally interested in this device.

      • -1

I'm being constructive and warning others how terrible of a deal this is. Your inability to take any any feedback that poses a different idea than your own is the real problem here - just have a look at your own comments through out the thread.

Also a pro tip - 40% off a bs rrp is still just a bs deal for suckers.

        • -2

If you're so confident then prove it.

Find a comparable device, ie ChromeOS, similar build quality (at least aluminium), 2-in-1 touchscreen, USB-C, 8gb RAM, expandable, etc, for less than $475, feel free to post it.

          Until then 😂

  • +1

Thanks OP, good bargain for an 8GB Chromebook.
