Will this calm down the roar of my PS4 when gaming?

    • From what i understand, in some cases it could, if it is a constant noise you are hearing. If your ps4 is normally quiet but only goes jet-engine-loud on some specific games or parts of a game, then there isn't much to be done besides cleaning your fan, or upgrading to a PS4 Pro.

      • Cleaned all the dust out the only thing I haven't tried is new paste.

        • Then give this a go, it could help improve the heat transfer between the cpu and the heat dissipater, so it could maybe reduce the amount of time the fan is spinning at full speed. I've read in the past that some people have gotten improvement by using a better thermal paste and other heavy players tend to change it on a yearly base (i've had my ps4 since 2015, but don't use too much, noise is within normal but it's been 2 years since i dusted it, might be time to look into a big cleanup)

silly question I know, but is it trapped in a tight TV cabinet? my Xbox One X has been fine for years, moved it into a slot on a TV Unit, open front, but fans are now jet engines, little dude is overheating in the confined space opposed to sitting ontop of the unit before with ample air

  • Good for laptops?

Yeah, I've used it on my Alienware

Cheaper than 2x1g of Kryonaut :p

MX-5 is new product this year - no bargain but imports from UK (4g, 20g) or US (8g, 50g).

    • Just after I bough a huge tube of MX-4… :(

All the decent aftermarket thermal compounds are like within 1-3C of each other under load, the budget for more expensive compounds is almost always better allocated elsewhere.

  • I had two tubes of these 2019 edition, both of them ran hotter than standard mx4. Noctua NT H1 is the best one I have used so far.

    • were they genuine ones? lots of fake mx-4 are on the market.

      • one from ebay (which could be fake, thats why I bought again), one from Harris tech on amazon

        • I also had fake one which didnt perform well, bought from ebay and amazon (both were fake).

This one on the post is genuine, i bought one from same seller few months ago. ;)

          How do we identify fake?

          • @SickDmith: Not I can think of without seeing the packaging, even you can see it before u buy it, it could still be hard to spot.

I now only buy NT-H1 from MSY, as I know it worked before. Same method from Edelweiss1, just keep buying from the same seller, I guess.

If you are talking a bout identifying fake while u are using it, just compare with your previous thermal paste, see if the performance is reasonable. This is no curing thermal paste, it should work at best level out of box.
