Acer Swift 3 14" Ryzen 7 4700U 16GB LPDDR4 1TB NVMe SSD Wi-Fi 6 $1198 + Shipping @ Harvey Norman

120

Not the latest & greatest - but pretty good price for the specs. RAM is soldered, but 16GB should be plenty for most. Display is said to be a bit dim - 250 nit max. I find it perfectly acceptable. YMMV.

  • Damn I wanted to get this for ages but it wouldn't go below $1500.

Great Ultrabook and the weight + battery life is top tier.

  • Seems like a good buy until I saw the review by D2D regarding the screen. Poor screen for outdoor use (that's fine) but the deal breaker is that it has terrible colour accuracy, even after calibration.
Otherwise, excellent value for money imo.

Reviewer may have had a slightly dodgy unit. Mine doesn't have a colour cast at all and it hasn't been calibrated. I edited a raw file image and the resulting photo looks the same on two other monitors I checked with.

      • Your comment gives me hope. I'll dig around more to see. How's your experience with the laptop? Is battery life anywhere near 6 hours?

        • +1

I guess it depends what you're doing with it and how bright you have the screen. My daughter used it for the first full battery cycle and it lasted nearly 8 hours - mostly streaming services - some uni assignments - and a zoom meeting.

  • Silly question alert…
If I purchased this and wanted to hook it up to our HP USB-C Dock G5 in the office would it work?

All the PC's are HP and use the above dock. This laptop suits my budged and I have never had a problem with all the Acer laptops I've owned.

    Cheers

Yes, I think the HP G5 is compatible with non-HP USB-C laptops:

      https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06386359

"NOTE: Works with both HP and non-HP USB-C- and Thunderbolt-enabled notebooks, thereby ensuring universal compability. For USB-C functionality, host PC must support the DisplayPort Alt mode protocol through its USB-C port. Thunderbolt-enabled notebooks function at USB-C speeds. Charging and port replication is supported on notebooks that have USB-C industry specifications implemented."

      • Cheers for that

  • My worry with AMD CPU's is heat. Whichever AMD CPU I bought in the past, always had heating problems. I wonder if this CPU also has heating same problem?

    • Many Intel Ultrabooks do too! Dell is renowned for burning you wit their Intel Ultrabooks

iv got a Asus Vivabook Flip 14, with the 4700U.

i find heat isnt a issue unless you are playing video games (I mainly play CSGO and its still fine heat and fan noise wise)

  • hmm might go in store and try haggle it lower
