  As someone without any Reolink products currently and wanting to install at least 3 cameras, am I better off buying a whole system including an NVR or should I just buy 3 cameras and a cheap PoE injector switch?

    I wouldn’t rule out getting a kit with NVR but you definitely don’t need it.

    Most of the Reolink PoE cameras can store data on an internal micro SD card as well as sending it to an NVR. The person/vehicle detection is also done on camera.

    You can’t access the on camera settings when they are connected directly to the NVR. This means you lose access to the time lapse feature, although that probably doesn’t matter for most users. If you have the cameras connected to a PoE switch rather than directly to the NVR you can record to both the NVR and the internal micro SD card.

      Yeah, I'm considering just recording to the micro SD card given how cheap micro sds currently are, how much they can store given that it'll only be recording when motion is detected, and the fact that I plan to install them up high and out of reach.

      Oh damn. Ended up grabbing the RLK8-820D4-A (NVR + 4x 4K Person/Vehicle cameras) already own a PoE switch and Synology (and also building a new media PC that could have doubled up with their Windows NVR program), so could have used that as well - oh well.
