Always tempted but abit overkill for ppl like me who only makes 1 to 2 coffee a day . It will take awhile to break even . But do love the look of these high-end Italian coffee machines .

    • Me too, I only pull one for myself and another for my wife each day, and often steam extra milk for my son to have a 'chai-latte'.

Would love something like this. They do indeed look the part with the exposed group head and chrome everywhere.

Good deal. I paid $4700 a few months ago. Machine isn't without its faults, but beautiful looking, well made. It does suit a bigger kitchen if yours isn't big, as it is quite large compared to other domestic machines, remarkably fitting in 2 largish boilers, a rotary pump and a good sized tank. Very glad to have dual tank/mains operation not only for ease of descaling, but also the water's been cut here a few times lately.

    • What faults would they be?

        1. One of best things about a rotary pump is the absence of the horrible vibe pump noise. But here, despite the panels being beautifully finished, there's a lot of metal-against-metal vibration. No rubber pads under drip tray or warming tray like some machines have for solving this problem. The side panels are attached only in the middle at the top - a dream to disassemble but they vibrated noisily from day 1. I've fixed the latter by undoing and repositioning slightly, but I would expect it to leave the factory that way given the machine is known for its top notch build quality. If that's happened due to transport to Australia/dealer, then it's likely it'll happen again with vibration through use. I'm also taking the chance warranty isn't voided because of taking panels off.

        2. Two boilers is nice that steaming can easily be done, even for two, while pulling a shot. But of course there's only one pump - so the controller should know better than attempt to refill the steam boiler while pulling a shot. You'll lose all extraction pressure if that happens. There's only 75 mL between steam boiler full and time for a top up (for good reasons), so it's not a rare occurrence. I purposely now waste some water from the tea tap to ensure the steam boiler isn't close to the refill point prior to extracting.

        3. The 15A option has been disabled in the PID for Australia, meaning both boilers can't heat at once, only sequentially. Not a huge deal in practice, but some of us do have 15A points who would take advantage of that.

  • Brother has a cheaper ECM machine and he says the maintenance is quite expensive. Also only 1 yr warranty from memory.

    It's a nice machine though.

      Agree on the maintenance side.
If you are spending 3k+ on a machine, it is like a car so for a normal service, expect to pay about $200. This is to change all the rubber seals, tune etc. probably takes about an hours work on a bench. Sometimes you can get away with a service every couple of years depending on how much you use the machine.
There is no comparison between a high end machine and the entry level or fully auto machines out there at Harvey Norman. A high end machine will pull shots at the same level if not better than your local cafe (depending on your ability!).
