Adelaide to Cairns What Should We Be Paying for Airfare?

Hi guys,

Re last post,

Looks like we have decided to go to Cairns for our 15 year anniversary. Absolutely no deals with the government subsidy for flights, looking to go end of May, what should we be paying, not looking for a bargain but $450+PP return seems a bit steep.

Cheers

    That sounds cheap.

In 2016 in May, I paid about $800 for Melbourne to Cairn return PP on Qantas Economy class

    • hmmm my sister got $190 return from Adl during the Jetstar return for free.

Jetstar used to use Cairns and Gold Coast for their Melbourne - Tokyo $600 cheapie international fare. If you could wait until international services open up, there might might be some cheap fares from Melbourne or other airports to Cairns to help find a cheap combination.

I mean.. then it wouldn't be his 15 year anniversary..

      • Would you rather a better belated present on your birthday or a timely but forgettable one?

        • They would still be going to Cairns, just potentially cheaper fares. How does going now without discount make your experience more forgettable??

Also, do you know when international flights will return? Cause I don't. Could be next year for all anyone knows, you're suggesting to wait for however long to save what.. $400 between 2 people? That will make your holiday better and more memorable? Interesting.

          • @buckethat: Your comments are more passive aggressive embellishment than substance. Sorry, but your ellipses and emo metadata, thoughts to self like 'interesting' are wasted on me. You've spent time in this thread, but not offered a single constructive answer to the OP's situation. Not a jot.

Go on, let out all your sighs and then address the OP's question, as I've already counted driving you into ellipsis-ville in my win column.

  • 450 return for a 3? hour flight is not bad at all I think for a non-sale price

  • Flights ADL - BNE - CNS Return are from $328
    on Jetstar via Momondo.com.au

  • If you don't get them on sale, Cairns from Adelaide is always going to be pricey because it's a tourist route especially if flying direct. You can get them cheaper by flying through Brisbane or Sydney but I'd honestly prefer to spend a little more and not spend hours of my holiday sitting in an airport - even worse if flights are delayed or connections are missed. I've been a few times in the last 10 years, pretty sure every time it's been $400-$450 return.

  • …not looking for a bargain but $450+PP return seems a bit steep.

So, you ARE looking for a bargain! 🤣 (nothing wrong with that, of course!)

  • That price sounds pretty normal. The price you've put up certainly isn't excessive. Maybe not cheap, but not ridiculous either.

Wait until you get the flights booked and start looking for accommodation and tours, you'll realise that flight cost is nothing.

  • I'm meeting a friend in Cairns who got flights with Jetstar for $250 return from Adelaide a couple of months ago for end of May.

Maybe just wait for a sale.

    • Yer will try with Jetstar on fridays, that's who my sister got return for free for $190

  • We were looking at Cairns, but went with Brisbane/ Noosa instead for half the cost. Same for Goldcoast / Byron Bay etc. Not great timing at the moment.

If its your anniversary, a commute via Sydney or Melbourne might not be that bad. Do an overnight (go to the footy or show or something), or just buy a couple of lounge passes via the classifieds section here.

We had a two hour layover in Sydney last time that got delayed for 3 hrs. Spent it in the Virgin lounge drinking up a storm. Was hoping for another delay.
