  • Thx, Is this cheapest ever on 65? Will new ones be cheaper and or better I wonder?

    • +1

possibly but im sure some have negotiated better in-store, as for 2021 range read this article

      • +1

depends if you want / need a TV now even if the 'rumoured' pricing changes are correct it might not matter with this price on the CX. A quick google shows RRP for the CX65 is 4,495.00 (I know we don't pay RRP) and 20% off of that would make C1 something like 3596 about the RRP… and at launch (which could be a while way still) it will be hard to get a discount on that price - if we even achieve that pricing here… making this look like a pretty good deal. The brightness addition looks only to go the the GX model - which is probably the best improvement between gens anyway (although more 2.1 ports on C1 is probably a good thing too).

      • I need model B8/9 instead please

    • -1

C1's are significantly more colour accurate and around 30% brighter than the CX's. You won't notice colour accuracy unless it is your job and bright scenes will have slightly more detail.

The big improvement is how this panel displays almost black. The jumps between shades are smaller and less pronounced.

Rumours have the price dropping in the US and Korea, but staying the same in the UK and Oz..

If you want a CX buy a CX. If you want something unique to the C1, buy a C1

      • +5

Only the top of the range 2021 LG TV "Gallery series" is 30% brighter and in testing at 100% screen white background its next to 0% brighter :)

The other 2021 models are the same brightness and lesser built QTY then the 2020 CX :)
"The stand on the 2021 models sux and OS inst as good being full screen" Remotes also cheaper QTY .. they cut costs to make it cheaper to sell.

        • +3

I think you mean "QLTY"? QTY is a shortening of "quantity".

      • +3

This guy You are confusing the C1 with the G1. G1 has the new brighter panel. C1 is the same panel as the CX and with very few other upgrades. So if you’re in the market for a well priced oled now, go the CX. Although prices on C1 and G1 should come down faster this year given there should be a decent price cut on the rrp like there has been in the other regions.

        • Yeah c1 65 is about 4100 as per tgg staff.

Do see it getting down to current gen cx prices by end of year but it's basically the same tv

  • +1

Thanks seen that one hoping that pricing translates to Australia

  • Worth getting the 55" over Sonys new 9500J?

    • OLED vs LCD.
But the 2021 Sony range does sound interesting

      • -4

I'm aware of the tech difference but for the same size, the price point is almost the same…

trying to work out why you would go OLED over LCD or more people would do this, there must be a reason?

        • +15

If you're aware of the tech difference, why ask about OLED vs LCD…

          • -4

@D3m3ntia: Because why would anyone buy an LCD over a OLED?

I'm asking if there is a reason because I can't think of one if they are around the same price point.

I'm on your side of the fence but I'm asking because there is still such a strong demand for 9500 series Sony LCDs that they are out of stock (COVID shortages notwithstanding), so people are still buying them despite OLEDs being in stock and at a similar price point occasionally.

            • +10

              @yacman:

trying to work out why you would go OLED over LCD

Because why would anyone buy an LCD over a OLED?

              arrghh my brain hurts

            • @yacman: To answer your question, OLED looks better than LCD and is more responsive. It's a newer technology.
LED LCD can be brighter though if you a bright viewing space.

              • @Sarazar: Contrast: VA LCD: 3000:1; OLED: ∞:1

                • +1

                  @AlexF:

                  OLED: ∞:1

I don't think you and where ever you sourced that ratio understand the concept of infinity. If the tv stops emitting light and it's reached its maximum blackness. It can't go beyond this. Infinite has no limitation. Yacman was also talking about brightness

                  • +2

@4agte: Seems you don't understand the mathematics of nominal infinity; and what happens when you divide any number by 0. You can educate yourself at RTings, "Like all OLED TVs, the LG CX has an infinite contrast ratio since it can turn off individual pixels, resulting in perfect blacks" where contrast is defined as "ratio of the white brightness divided by the blacks measured on our checkerboard test pattern with a white target of 100 cd/m²."; and, Division by zero.

                    • +1

@AlexF: Sounds more like a marketing term. Contrast ratio is the luminance of the brightest shade to that of the darkest shade. Might need to read more but struggle to understand how it could be infinite.

                      • @4agte: I talked to Rtings about this infinite ratio as it's impossible, OLED is still limited to how bright it can get. They have now changed the wording to near infinite, because they measure it to 100 nits whitepoint (30 yr old calibration method) it's not relevant to today's standards. Although it is the most accurate for a definitive reading. Dynamic contrast ratio is more helpful today with the types of TV's available. While it is more inconsistent it can show a more true reading with HDR content we watch. So basically if you limit the brightness reading of course you can get whatever outcome you want. Not helpful in real world viewing. Yes it is a marketing term and anyone who says companies like Rtings or these huge youtubers are unbiased are kidding themselves. They have to make money off the sales from affiliate links and advertising these TV's. No company can afford to operate and buy all the big models of these TV's with their own money without some form of sponsorship or deals with the manufacturer.

              • @Sarazar: thanks for your answer, I asked a simple question no one could answer, no need for hate from a lot of people, for my purposes I come to my own conclusion below.

Looking for a bedroom TV that will be migrated to the Alfresco area eventually, I find my current OLED to be very reflective.

For that reason, I actually don't think this OLED purchase is suitable for my application.

    • That's a very different screen. It's not OLED. Sony has the A90J. The X9500J might be very good, but we don't know yet.

  • +1

I used to be keen on getting a CX or a H sereies, now just gonna wait for the 2021 models. Hopefully the hdmi 2.1 issues are sorted.

    • Curious. What issues are you referring to?

      • +2

The LG CX has hardware limitations which prevent it from doing VRR properly. The Sony TVs has blurry issues doing 4k at 120hz and as far as I know, still hasn't implemented VRR and ALM.

        • +1

If you’re referring to the gamma flickering, it hasn’t been fixed in the C1. C1 is using the same panel as the CX. And it’s still there in the G1 albeit less. And it really isn’t very noticeable in most circumstances on my CX. I’m using VRR on mine and have no issues.

          • @dwhes: The one from Vincent about the VRR fix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jfl3UdWZIUQ&t=96s I realise a lot of it is likely unnoticeable

            • +1

@emblurr: Yep the gamma flickering like I said. It really isn’t noticeable in most cases at all. Not something I would not buy the tv over. Especially given the alternative options are far worse. Eg horrendous blooming on the samsungs and terrible contrast. Not to mention no VRR update on the Sonys still.

  • getting out of stock on the 65" for delivery and putting in a postcode in gives 4 stores across the country as click n collect…

    • Wow I must be lucky 65 shows 3 stores for me within 13km have stock.

  • +3

Just bought one. 15%+5%+3% shop back and 500 GC brought it down to 2.8k for me. Cldnt wait any longer. Hope it's not a regret

    • +5

I'm hanging out for the 2021 new models, and the bigger size options considering the 'rumoured' pricing changes 20% off RRP, might make the 77 inch option seem less absurdly priced. Can't go back to 65" after having a 75".

My patience is wearing thin though

      • Oh potential price drops. I'd like 77 inch but just way to dear right now

    • How’d you get ShopBack?

      • +1

I think he/she meant 3% cashback GCs through SB Superstore

    • How did you get the 15% off?

      • that's the supposed discount JB says they are already. Pho discount considering best prices out there elsewhere.

    • +1

Can I have a 500 GC too? Just so we're even.

    • +2

Ended up buying it just like you. All night I was thinking about this deal and came to the conclusion there is no way it will be cheaper than C1 model even with rumoured price drop.

Plus seeing as though there are only 4 JB stores with stock (2 within 50KM from me) shows they are getting scarcer and obviously on clearance and won't be restocked.

Enjoy your tv I'm sure we will both be happy :)

  • Regret comes after the new line..ppffft rookie. s/c

  • +3

Wonder how long before we get 75 at the 65 prices
    Could be a other decade:(

  • Anyone have any idea when we will see the 2021 range release? Been wanting to upgrade for a while but the X9000H ended up being a dud and the CX is just way too pricey.

  • +4

Waiting for a special on this one https://www.lg.com/global/lg-signature/rollable-oled-tv-r
£100,000 is a little too much right now.

  • -1

The 2021 line will be better and cheaper

    • +1

65CX RRP is $5399. Even if we get a 12% price cut like they have seen in the US, that’s still an RRP of $4750. You won’t see them this cheap for a while. But yes they will definitely come down faster than previous years given the price cut. And the C1 is basically the same as the CX. It’s only the G1 that has changed by any significance. However that will still command a more premium price. So if someone is wanting a good priced oled that is basically as good as the one most people would want to buy from this coming year, this is a great deal.

      • What I wonder is if we are going to see a more significant drop than that for the C1. That would explain why they haven't published prices yet for the C1 in Australia put pretty much anywhere else. Guess they still want to clear stock before publishing C1 prices which are not too far away from the current "discounted" prices.

        • Even a 20% price cut. Which would be nuts. Only brings it down to $4319. So again going to be a while after release before same price as this deal. If we were to get a price Cut like that then for sure prices will fall much faster this year. However I can’t see us getting a price cut that is significantly larger than the rest of the world.

  • +4

Pulled the trigger, impatience was killing me. No way the C1 will be cheaper than this on release and I will need to compromise knowing I will never afford the 77" CX or C1

    $3,276.75 after
Suncorp 2 x 5% $500 gift cards using mine and my partner's accounts (due to $500 per month limitation)
    Shopback 2 x 3% cashback $1,000 gift cards
    $135 gift card lying around
    Rest on my card

    • +2

Well done mate and you’re 100% right. Even if we get the 12% price cut that the US got on their RRPs, the C1 will be nowhere near this price near launch and is basically the same as the CX. Enjoy.

  • +1

Every time I see one of the CX models posted here, I can't tell if it gets a lot of positive votes because of the price or just because of the TV itself.

    • This is OzBargain, not OzQuality.

    • +1

They are a great TV, OLED technology is typically considered the best you can get on the market at the moment, during COVID pries have not gone as low as previous years though.

  • +3

Still happy with my 65" C8 from a few years ago, every year I think I should upgrade and every year I get the same look from my wife haha.

  • I got CX55 for $2,270 at the good guys in SA

    • +3

      How did you manage that?

  • Just for anyone interested, I just rang Bing Lee Hurstville and he offered 65” Cx @ $3290, said the best he could do.

Probably going for JB as I have over 1k in gift cards burning hole in my pocket.

    • +1

negotiate in-store at JB, mention BL will do $3290

  • PSA - You can use more than 5 gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi (Australia) website, I used 7.

I could only find the 5 card limit mentioned on the JB Hi-Fi NZ website, nothing on the Australian one about a limit.

  • Welp, new TV coming next week!

  • Amazing TV but I'm terrified of long term burn in. I've seen it in person and I just don't want to stress by owning this product. My old Sony TV from decades ago still works, I doubt this will be flawless after 5 years, especially because I game on the PC a lot… But I'm so tempted…

  • Give stock anyone tried Good Guys as they have same base price but not the extra 5%.

  • +3

Am having some issues with my beloved Panny plasma and decided tonight I would wait no longer to pull the pin on an OLED. I knew I was never going to go from plasma to LED, and it had to be OLED.

Was very tempted to wait for the C1 release, and to see prices, but surely these prices won't be easy to secure for a while, even with the suggested launch price reduction.

Grabbed the 65" in this deal tonight - complete with 5 per cent JB Easter discount, and 3 per cent Shopback JB voucher cashback, which brought it down to about $3,290 before delivery ($59).

All in all, also applying some Shopback cleared cashback that was sitting there to offset the gift card purchases, I've got a new CX 65" on the way that will end up being about $3,080 out of pocket delivered. Not bad :)

  • Popped into my local TGG, can pick up a CX 65" for $3,300.00 plus delivery

Interestingly, I was advised that the C1 was in the TGG system (not in stock of course) and priced at $4,495.00.

    • +1

Good one - am not surprised and nice to be able to grab one without all the coupon stacking shenanigans!

Stock seems to be thinning out of the 65” CX as there’s reasonable demand at these prices.

I read on the weekend that UK pricing on the C1 65” was going to be £2,500, and that’s pretty much bang on AUD$4,500. Fitting with what the Good Guys told you.

Certainly better starting price than the $5,399 LG have the CX 65” priced on their web site.

      • But in Europe its 2500 Euro so $3870 and thats with a GST of 21%.

    • +2

I think they were telling you the right thing and lines up with what I’d been saying, that we would get a price cut similar to the rest of the world but which would still be significantly higher than this deal. Seems we are getting a 16% price cut on the CX RRP if these betta electrical prices are correct. So still well above this deal and well above what most of us paid in negotiated TVs last year. Given I paid $6k for my 77CX in July last year and most have paid around $3500 for a 65CX for most of last year.

Credit to eruditetrousers on WP for finding these prices

      • Well my wallet .. and local pickup .. has stopped me this time. Hoping the 15%ish off translates to the sale prices next year so I could be looking at close to $3k for a C165 when C265 are coming out.

      • Much more expensive than what they are charging in Europe. I guess they realise they can gouge Australians.

        • The prices actually are almost a direct conversion of UK prices with current enhance rate. So compared to there we aren’t being ripped off. It’s only when comparing against the US that we are.

          • @dwhes: Well in the Netherlands it's $3870 when you convert and they have a 21% GST

    • Hey Struggo
Thats an amazing price. Do you think you could share the receipt so I can try to price match?

      • +2

I hadn't picked one up at the time of posting yesterday as I went home and contemplated the following,

Purchase either a LG OLED CX @ 65" or a Sony X9500H @ 75" now or wait until the LG OLED C1 drops later in the year.

Well I called my local Bing Lee and grabbed CX 65" for $3,250 plus $40 delivery.

Should be a nice upgrade from my trusty Samsung B Series Plasma.

      • No problemo noslappers, you'll need to send a message though as you have not activated it at your end.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:private_messaging

        • +1

Hey Struggo, I’d appreciate a copy of the receipt please, if you could PM?

Went to the local JB, which had stock, but lowest they’d go was $3423. Also said they’re waiting on the C1 any day now but couldn’t tell me prices.

  • You guys think $2200 with a 55"cx is possible?

  • +4

For anyone interested, Harvey Norman sold me the CX 65” for $3200 ($50 delivery) with zero fuss. I asked for it and they agreed straight away (should have asked lower).
