  PSA for those who don't like having to use a smartphone touchscreen and Lego's Control+ app for their RC sets and prefer old-school physical remote controls: there's a custom smartphone app called BrickController 2 (Android & iOS compatible) that allows you to control the newer generation of Powered Up/Control+ Lego sets as well as the older infrared-based Power Functions sets, using Android-compatible gamepads (including PS4 and Xbox controllers).

  Trying to decide between this and the LEGO 42124 Technic Off-Road Buggy

  Any advice ?

  Saw a youtube vid and the buggy is so much faster and (naturally) can go over various terrains.

    Go for the buggy.

    Both sets look like crap, have poor cost-per-brick ratios and feature very few interesting pieces aside from the motors/Control hubs but at least the Off-Road Buggy is the fastest Lego RC set since the early 2000s and actually has the ability go over a slightly-thick carpet or other mild obstacles without getting hopelessly stuck, unlike every other Lego RC vehicle released in recent memory.
