Telstra use charge $10 to access the 5g network no one signed up for it. So it's now included

  • So what are the work arounds for the porting of my number?

I doubt I'd be able to get a port out processed today due to being a public holiday or am i wrong?

    Other options are much appreciated!

    • +1

The last time I did it my port out didn't happen until the next day (which was on a weekend), but they held onto the $500 gift card until it actually went through. So you could just visit the store and sign up to this, but they may not release the phone until your port out is complete.

      • ah so you actually went into store to grab the deal and they advised that you needed to be a new customer? you ported out to another telco and returned to complete the deal another day?

        • Nah, I was with Woolies mobile previously and did the sign up on day 1, requested a port out from Woolies onto Telstra. However the port out wasn't completed until day 2, and JB refused to provide the $500 gift card (which was the promotion on sign up) until the port was fully completed. I then had to return to the store another day to pick up the gift card.

So it might be the same in this case, where they hold onto the S21 phone until your port in is finalised (which may take longer if they don't process it during public holidays).

          • @profeeder55: ah cool. So you were already with another telco. All goods!

            Cheers the info mate

          • @profeeder55: I'm with Woolies, always thought they'd group it the same as Boost. Thanks for the info, definitely makes it a lot easier

  • Does it have dual nano sim?

    • Would like to know this too.

    • It has 1 physical sim tray, and 1 eSim.

I think the A82 will be my next phone, it has revolutionary features like a headphone jack and sd card slot I believe. Lol This looks like an okay deal I guess. Especially if you must have Telstra and you want an S21. If I factor in the difference I currently spend per a month on my plan for more data than this offer, it essentially only works out ~$560 more for the S21 over 12 months. Mind you I need more than 150gb and I prefer faster speeds than what Telstra slow you down to if I use excess data.

    • +1

yep - I can live without the headphone jack but the lack of sd expansion is a step backwards - the S6 lost it because apparently Samsung thought people would complain about the mobile being slow if they were loading stuff from the card, then they brought it back after there were so many complaints. Now they have done it again, and I can only assume it's in the hope that people will take up their cloud storage platform. Meh.

For me, it costs me $10 per month to be on Belong and I have some 70Gb of data in reserve. I'm rarely out of wifi range so don't use much data and don't need 5g. I might just get the A52 5g version so it gets the faster processor & 120Hz display, and the 256gb version so it gets 8gb ram….. or maybe the A72 5g as it swaps the depth sensor for a telephoto lens, plus has a slightly bigger battery. Will see what the prices are like locally, but word is if you buy before April 23rd you can claim some free "Buds Live". Oh, and the cheaper phone apparently comes with a charger…. ;-)

  • I hope someone with previous port-out & port-in experience can shed some lights. I am with boost mobile right now. If I manage to port out today or tomorrow will they still honor the deal? or it has to wait for a month?

    • +1

I did this a few years ago… depends on who you get to sign you up if they are bothered or not… I would just ask them cause they really want to sign you up cause they make commission imho

    • +1

I was in the same boat as yourself last month. Ported out to Catch Connect (Optus) for one day and was able to take advantage of the $59 sim plan with $500 gift card the next day. Might be dependent on which JB Hi-Fi store you purchase from or the staff…

  • +6

Signed up to say thank you! Just about to purchase the phone but saw this plan, yes!

    • winning

  • I assume you wouldn't be able to share this data with other services on a Telstra account as per their more recent data sharing plans?

  • +2

Can you sign up on this deal then later move your out of contract telstra number over to it?

    • For anyone curious…. you can!
I contacted telstra through the app.

I signed up on this deal and got a random number then I contacted telstra and I disconnected my out of contract number and got the number moved over to the new plan I signed up for at jbhifi

  • +5

For anyone curious - just ported out from Belong (Telstra) to Vodafone this morning then ported to this plan in store. Porting completed within 10mins. Walked away with the S21 256gb for $99 upfront.

    • congrats and thanks for sharing!

    • isn't this deal for S21 5G 128gb?
      you got S21 256GB, 4G or 5G?

      • you can get 256gb for extra $99 upfront

        • Without expandable memory it seems like a necessity for most.

    • mate, do you mind sharing which store you did this? my local store won't even try it.

      • +1

        Cranbourne

      • +1

Went to Warrawong in NSW. The salesperson mentioned they're not open tomorrow, even though the deal is until tomorrow. Best to check your local stores if they're open Sunday.

  • just bought this one

  • Anyone know what would be better for camera / processor / battery life - this or upcoming A52 5G?

    • +1

Definitely this on the first two 100%, battery life would most likely be similar between them I'd say.

A series is the budget line, S series is the flagship line.

  • Anyone in Melbourne south eastern suburbs has done that for this deal? I tried my local store the guy just won't even try it (port in and out)

  • +1

If you get this, is it allowed to sell the phone?
If we sell the phone it’s essentially almost a free plan depending on how much the phone gets sold for.

    • +4

You can do whatever you like with the phone.

  • is my understanding correct?

    $89 pm for 12 mths with $0 upfront S21 128gb
    or
    $89 pm for 12 mths with $99 upfront S21 256gb

    • +3

      Yes

      • -6

        No

    • +1

      Yes.

    • +1

yes, i did the $99 upfront 256gb plan

  • does The Good Guys bring plans like this out often?

  • Telstra forcing me to switch from cable to NBN, but can I use this deal and phone as hotspot for home for internet?
I need mob and internet as two in one, if possible.

    • No restriction on hotspot

    • yes, you can

      • Thank you, guys!

  • Correct me if l'm wrong, my understanding is the in dual Sim mode both lines will be on 4G only. Essentially the choices are:
    1) one 5G line (either eSim or nanoSim)
    2) 4G+4G

And No 5G+4G combo (at least can't be active simultaneously)

  • +1

Thanks OP. Grabbed the last grey one from my local store.

  • -1

If I sign up the plan and sell the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G 128GB for $1060, basically I use the 150GB data plan for free?
    missing something?

    • Resell from what I've seen lately has not been fantastic due to the recent trade in and $250 coupon stacks promos.

    • correct

  • So ported my phone out this afternoon and ripped down to the Local JB. Salesperson tells me its not possible to port out

I plan on trying again tomorrow but what are the other work arounds guys?

Anyone know if this model is a dual sim model? Can I possibly just put in my simcard and get the new number and work with it that way?

Is there another way I can try port the number at a later date?

Your help is appreciated guys and girls!

    • Who did you port out to? if its using the same carrier as telstra you won't be able to port to this plan.

      • Aldi, the salesperson had a quick skizz when i told her i had ported out.

They gave me the spiel that when it got to activating the voucher or something that it would be blocked.

I do plan on giving it another go tomorrow and hopefully just won't say anything this time around and see how far it will get

Salesperson was quite young and did go check with a manager. Maybe if i had gotten someone who had more experience and didn't really care I would of been sweet

        • I know people have got onto the Telstra $59 + 500 gc plan by porting out to aldi.

I think boost is a problem, otherwise it should be ok

          • @greatlamp: maybe if i dont mention anything at all and just let the salesperson do all the talking. We'll see how we go

  • thanks just signed, $99 extra for 256gb, no charger, but has usb c cable (usb c interface on both end),

either port in or a new number, they are all $99-$10 = $89/month

  • I signed up on this deal and got a random number then I contacted telstra and I disconnected my out of contract number and got the number moved over to the new plan I signed up for at jbhifi

    • Does it not say "new customers only"?
      How did get round that?

      • +1

Its a new number, doesn't mean existing customers can't do it.
They just need to get a new number.
Then as above, I messaged them on the app and closed out of contract number account and asked them to change the number on my new contract to my number from my closed contract

  • -4

never understood the point of these plans/contracts, if you are financially well placed to buy it outright you certainly would

    • +4

Because essentially you're getting a free plan with the phone and also paying it over 12 months.

    • And thats why you don't understand.

Go buy the phone out right now and pay let's say $1000. It actually costs more

Get a plan sorted, let's go with some $20/month jobbie.

Your still ahead on this plan

      Make sense?

    • +1

      What's hard to understand?

Option one: buy phone outright. RRP $1249
Option two: buy phone on a plan for $1068 (payable via $89 per month) + 150gb pm unlimited calls plan.

  • Does this phone support mmWave?

  • Just wanting to see if anyone in my situation has managed to get the deal.

I've recently started as a full time student, no income at the moment. Does anyone know if I am still eligible?

    • I asked, it is OK, they will do the application in front of you, you will instantly if it is approved or not.

      • You actually remembered my question when you were there? :)

        • +2

          Yo we are ozbargain fam

          this is the way

          • @poxy001: This is why, as a migrant, I love Australia.
            Mateship matters!

        • +1

          Correct :)

So..my Telstra plan is about to expire. If I switch now to a month per month Optus plan, can I then swan in to JB and get this plan?

Is there a minimum period I need to be away from Telstra?

  • im new to all this.

I port out of my vodafone number, go and sign up..and cancel the contract but keep the phone and go onto a BYO sim plan?

    • Yes, not sure about the charge but it might end up total around $700, that was the total price for my S20 FE 5G however I was able to sell the bundled Galaxy Buds. To cancel, just go on the live chat on the Telstra app and be very adamant you want to close the account. Some people received the Early Termination bill, others haven't.

  • All the stores are closed on Easter Sunday and the deal ends today if I'm not mistaken?

    • Can confirm JB hi fi in coomera are operating normal Sunday hours today

  • Just headed to my local shooping centre with JB only to find the gates closed. Googled JBs in the area and just now realised they are all closed because its Easter sunday. Probably should have googled that yesterday.

    • JB Camberwell is open until 5pm today

  • Was about to mark this as expired, but here in Melbourne it seems like JB is open?

    • regional JB should be open

    • Depends on states. All open in QLD

  • For anyone curious - no need to port. Confirmed working today with my partner.

Was already on a contracted Telstra Plan with a $315 payout fee.

Went to JB, signed up her name as a new account with Telstra (so she had two services and numbers under her Telstra App), then went to Telstra Store and asked to payout the old contract of $315, and merge the old number onto the new plan. Took all of 10 minutes to get her old number onto the brand new plan.

  • Just picked this up from JB Thomastown. Super quiet today so got it done really quick. Ported over from Voda.

    • can you turn on your Private Message?

  • How much is the early termination cost for these sorts of deals?

    • +1

      $594+ $500

  • thanks, OP. signed up to this today. cracker of a deal if you were after this phone and the telstra network for work reasons. very happy, thanks again

  • +1

Here's hoping the deal was extended today for those with no stores open yesterday?!

    • Hi, did you find out if you can?

  • -2

    3 questions,

    • can i setup the video and photo resolution?

    • is this phone on mmwave 5G and Qualcomm cpu?

    • one nano sim plus one e-sim?

  • -1

S20FE has a charger, this one does not have a charger?

    • Yes no charger

  • Anyone who signed up for this can help me check. If you go to Telstra account and Live chat, please ask them for the cost if you change to Telstra plan? It seems they have a figure in their system which may be different to what I think.

  • I don't venture into JBHIFI much but do they always have similar deals like this(maybe not as good) instore?

  • just asking, is this telstra brand phone, can it work with optus and overseas?

    • phone is not locked so it should be working with any telco.

  • is this phone a qulacomm chip and samsung chip? Phone is very hot when using.

    • Samsung chip. Make sure you update to the latest firmware, apparently a common issue I experienced on the one that came out of the box too.

  • saw this one on Telstra website, true? can we redeem?
