Saw this deal at Costco Auburn while looking for an 85" 4K TVs, excl delivery. Not sure if it is the best deal but wanted to share to those who are searching for replacement/new TVs.

I also checked with JBHIFI who is selling it for $2495 plus $59 delivery, see https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-tu8000-82-crystal…

    $2390 delivered
    No deal.

Does having it somewhere else a bit cheaper make this not a deal? Genuinely curious, don't crucify me - what if someone trusts costco more for example?

      • +4

Yes, especially if the service provided is superior (it includes delivery, which for somethings this size is very difficult to do yourself and would cost around 50-100 dollars), the price is cheaper, and the purchase process is more convenient (no membership and most of Australia is not near or costco, let alone this specific costco).

Probably not worth a neg though, I think it discourages people posting especially if it's for something as simple as unfortunately not being the cheapest price.

        • +11

Posting a deal without even a simple google search deserves a neg.
A cheaper option with free delivery was the second result that came up.

What if every item is posted without a little effort and due diligence? This would be OzNotBargain.

          • +4

@aibargain: Well they did cross-check with JB Hifi which is reasonable. For some people paying $10 extra on a $2,400 item from a easier accessible brick and mortar store, with their customer satisfaction policy, is worth it.

I certainly would rather buy from Costco than Appliance Central, whom may well be legit, but I have never heard of before.

              @Hybroid: Legitimate use of Neg
“ Appropriate uses of negative vote
              Cheaper price elsewhere
Ideally, mention store, URL and price include shipping (if applicable).”
              Not personal.

Just be aware that Samsung TV now comes with ads on bottom left menu bar.

    • Is it only when u watch free to air, or all the time even during movies?

      • +1

It’s located between the menu items. On the left you have the settings and then the apps. The ads icon stands in between those 2. For example

    • Wow! Thanks for the heads up…

    • There is a setting to turn this off

      • +1

Can you elaborate on this? I’ve tried a number of setting changes to remove the adds and they always come back. The only change I haven’t tried to far is locking all the apps - which I don’t really want to do

        • +1
          1. Go to your TV Settings - Support

          2. Locate "Terms & Policy", then click to open it

          3. In this section click to open "Interest Based Advertisement"

          4. Disable "Enable to make the content and advertising on smart tv more interactive" option

          • +1

@Ryanek: It does not work on my 50” TU8000. Ads icon still there.

Does it work on yours? What model you have?

          • +1

@Ryanek: Thanks for the reply Ryanek but it didn’t work for me, I tried that probably 6 months ago and still have ads

      • +2

Only way to stop seeing the ads is either block the ads address in the router or use pihole. Either way we paid for the tv and i see no reason for samsung to put ads there

What's so special about Samsung? Time to look for another brand

    • Very sincere thanks for the heads-up ausdday! This makes me feel a lot lot better about a very recent purchase of a Hisense 75Q8. I spent a lot of time researching, comparing tv brands and talking to salespeople at the usual outlets. NOT ONE of them mentioned these ads. Not being able to disable the ads is outrageous behaviour from Samsung!

    • I think this poster is talking about a thing called Samsung TV plus. It is a thing on Samsung TVs that provides extra channels

From the website: Your Samsung TV (from 2017 Smart TVs) comes with Samsung TV Plus –Samsung’s free ad-supportedSmart TV video service delivers instant access to news, sports, entertainment, and more. No download, additional device, or credit card needed. All you need is an internet connection.

I am in the market for a new TV so don't know for sure, but I expect the poster is talking about ads on these channels not Samsung putting their own ads when you are watching FTA TV.

  • Must be end of the road for this size and model.

These prices are cheaper than my EPP.

  • Cheaper at appliance central delivered, as ozbargin has pointed above.

  • The TU8000 is an amazing no HDMI 2.1 TV. These look really good in person. I actually really like this TV for the price.

    • +1

Only if you don't watch anything in HD. It is a really average TV and I think the price reflects this.

      • For the price it punches high. It looks better than the Sony X900H and about on par with the Samsung Q60T. It's really not a bad TV, at least I didn't think so. It also has good power consumption and looks a lot better than the LG Nanocell TVs.

        • +1

This is simply not true. Not even close to the backlit fald x900h. Overpriced average TV at best. If your eyes see what you have said… Good for you.

      • ok, so if you are paying about $1500 for a 65 inch TV, which one would you look at?

Of course there are many TVs far better quality than this, but at a far higher price.

        • A Hisense 65Q7 is better than the TU8000 and is about $1100.

The Q8 is currently $1695 at Bing Lee (I realise that's over the $1500) is another option.

If you're only watch SD / full HD then you may not notice the difference. Once you go to the 2k and higher resolutions it's night and day.

  • Is this the case, buy electronics from Costco u get lifetime warranty?

    • +1

      Costco doesn’t offer this anymore.

      • No, but you can return within 90 days if you don’t like it.

  • cheaper elsewhere.
