Has anyone tried to use this with a SBC to make a DIY NAS?

  • anyone used these? These might be useful for my spare 2tb and 3tb drive that are collecting dust

    • Had one but returned within 2 days as drives constantly dropped out, usually with large file transfers. Initially thought the drive has bad but happened with 4 others so I think I just got a faulty unit.

      • Thanks, will not buy for me then

Gotta love the pictures with the hard drives in upside down. 😂

  • Grabbed the newer one with more ports on the front.

Please backup the data of the source disk before cloning.

    • I've heard nightmares about the clone function not working, no progress indicators and I can't recall if data loss too.

I wonder how much of the reporyed dropouts is because ryzen usb is broken.

Don’t use use any USB extenders or unnecessary hubs between the unit and the PC. Use the supplied cable straight into your PC and you will minimise problems

I have had the newer version for a few months. It is great and has good transfer speed.

Excellent deal! Just bought the new one (which seems to be the only one available at the moment). I didn't even know of this tech - I do bit/bit cloning regularly and can't wait to try the offline cloning capacity of this unit. Thanks, OP :)

I know 2 people that have had this device for several years and had no issues with them & used them regularly.

I had a another dock myself, different brand, cant recall at the moment, but it looks like it corrupted a few of my drives, not happy, still need to try recover them.

Well mine arrived, the black normal one.

Very nice unit, works really well. No issues at all.

Put in two hard drives, both picked up, copied some files across from PC and from one drive to the other, all good.

These units are also a cheap and nasty NAS with appropriate software or management.

  • Apart from the color & a bit cheaper, both are the same spec yeah?
    Thanks OP

Yes, BL-Dual Bay & RD-Dual Bay seem to be the same.
I ended up getting the Newest-Dual Bay.
      Got delivered today.

      • Thanks for replying.

  • Deal looks to be over, damn, was about to order it :(
