can someone tell me if this is good. I can't take anymore iGPU gaming.

    • +5

If you can't wait any longer its a fine card, just about $300 dollars over priced.

      • +5

The reference 6700xt card is around 700 -750 dollar. If you can accept the redeon card, for the current situation, it is not as bad as other nvidia cards price.

      • +6

Not overpriced anymore. Chip shortage is real and not likely to be fixed any time soon.

        • -3

chip shortage doesnt mean it costs more to make one. it just gives scumbag sellers to drive up price for higher profits in the name of supply / demand.

          • +4

            @kaleidoscope: Yes it does lol

          • +4

@kaleidoscope: imaging you have a production line that capable of producing 100 gpu card per day with 100 chips, but you only able to get 5 chips from tsmc per day.

            • @Rocinante: I don't know exactly why the chips are down, but I know the shortage is also severely slowing new car production.

          • @kaleidoscope: It would really suck but why will people not take advantage of this? It is the basics of economics since time immemorial. I may not agree with it but its the fact.

    • Apparently it's between a 3060 and 3070 (according to a review I read).

    • +3

Changing over to console for a while may offer better value.

  • +7

It looks like used 5700xts are going for this price. I wonder if I can get a free upgrade from a miner.

    • +3

Wew even 5600xts are going for $700 used. Crazy times, tempted to sell and just play my massive console backlog

      • +4

Don't sell unless you plan to be GPU less for long time, they are saying these inflated prices might be here to stay till mid 2022.

        • Yeah not going to, just thinking about how little gaming time I have these days hah

          • @Merlict: Sell your old 5600/5700XT and buy this for same cost or $100-200 extra.

About 25% more performance than the 5700XT and new warranty.

        • +2

Depends on timing of the next crypto market crash, unlikely to last till mid 2022

          • +4

@yaaNaa: It's more than just mining affecting current GPU prices.

            • +1

@materix01: A new factor could be that gamers vote with their dollar, only buying new and non-mined cards, sticking it to the miners who are largely counting on palming off these thrashed cards they hoarded when it suits them. As well , it may be possible to buy only new cards that have a bios effectively locking down mining hashrate. I think if enough people call for this it will make a huge difference. Refuse to buy unless this feature is properly implemented.

              • @chyawala: What if card vendors were to incorporate some sort of measures allowing users to see the history of GPUs / CPUs. Similar to an odometer on your car. Would allow you to at least make a semi-informed decision on a second-hand computer goods worth based on its previous use.

Miner cards that were severely thrashed for 2-3 years would certainly be easier to spot over one that's been casually gaming for the same timeframe. As it is, you've got nothing to go on, other than plugging it in and seeing if it still works…

                • @HiredGoon: Interesting idea! Based on Nvidia releasing 'Non mining' cards that were hacked in about 3 seconds to mine at full rates I don't know how possible it is though

                • +2

@HiredGoon: I’d buy a card that has been used strictly for mining over a casual gamer’s card any day.

The cards miner’s use are ran with constant voltage, temperature, fan speed and are underpowered and generally looked after if it’s sole purpose is in a mining rig. There is little variance in the cards temperatures.

Gamer cards power draw, fan speed and temperature can fluctuate dramatically depending how it’s used and it’s these temperature fluctuations that degrade the card through expansion and contraction of the components. Gamers’ are now mining their cards in their off time anyway. So I’d definitely prefer a card ran in a mining farm over one that was run in some gaming PC.

1070s are still going for $500 plus, pretty nuts prices at the moment

      • +1

I could sell my 3070 to get this instead. 3070's are going for stupid prices on eBay. It'd get me like $600 and the performance outside of DLSS/Ray-tracing is not that different. It's almost temping.

        • 3070 was launched @USD500, dont know how you got your at AUD600, normal 3070(non-ref) was launched from $800, I bought my premium edition(3 fans RGB, etc) for $1000.

          • @couger: $600 more than the cost of a 6700XT I mean

    • I bought one used for 1000$.

    • +1

Hashrate of this is 20% slower than the 5700xt

      • +1

Why so? Isn't that a newer card?

        • +1

RDNA2 Architecture is different from RDNA1(5700XT) , this is better at gaming but has less compute.

          • @camelthief: thats interesting, that would affect 3d modelling etc right? I have a 5700XT and do a bit of that (for fun and 3d printing), if the 6700xt was slower though I dont think id bother for the tradeoff, even with better gaming

        • +2

6700XT has a smaller memory bandwidth than 5700XT

    • +2

Wish me luck guys I've just bought one. Hopefully I can can sell my 5700xt for at least $700 and get a nice little upgrade.

      • +2

You should crack $850 pending the model

        • I sold mine for $1050, asking price on Ebay is $1000 plus for most edition.

      • Put it on ebay and you will mostly hit the jackpot mate!

    • pretty bloody tempting hey.

    • You can, I bought a 6700 XT for 814, gave it to a friend he sold his 5700 XT for 950 so 134$ profit + free upgrade.

  • When did clocks get so high

    • +1

this thing sips power on 7nm with so few CUs (relative to 6800+), they can push it pretty hard

  • +1

This XFX one is better, seems to come back into stock regularly over the last few weeks, but need to watch because it disappears again pretty fast. I'd preorder the XFX instead of picking up the Powercolor to be honest.

    https://www.ple.com.au/Products/645531/XFX-Radeon-RX-6700-XT…

    • Still a good card though, 6700xt for $900 is so much better value than Nvidia 3060 or 3070 current prices.

Some say the 6700xt doesn't need 12gb but mine was using 10.4gb running Flight Simulator on Ultra 1440p.
So the 3070 with 8Gb may be a problem at some point, as they kind of admitted by giving the later released 3060 12Gb as well.

      • Hi what kind of 1440p display are you using. I plan to get one but red devil variant because of rgb and slightly faster speed but not sure about the performance. My monitor is Aoc 34 ultrawide 1440p. 144hz.
I am not too keen but want to experience the full 144hz panel. Dont know if i should settle with this or go for top of the range 6900xt which is at $2199. Any suggestions??
        Thanks

        • +1

Dell S2721DGF with display port, so 165Hz, it's very good. Going higher from 6700xt will mean more expense and more heat so in my case it's seems just right. I'm very happy with the 6700xt seems to run everything so far on 1440p ultra. Flight simulator was around 31fps so I dropped settings one level, couldn't tell the difference visually and it went over 50fps. Horizon 4 on ultra seems to stay at 165fps. Use freesync of course so if it drops temporarily you won't notice much. I'd say higher cards from here are pretty much for 4k or pro gamers. I have i5-9600k probably could use an i7. Main thing is to have good cooling (3 fans and a good heat sink) so it doesn't sound like a hair dryer. I can't hear the XFX, assume the Powercolor is the same but I did notice it's a little shorter.

      • Just because a game allocates it doesn't mean it uses it. It's quite common for games to allocate 80% of vram.

        • fair enough

    • a bit late to the party here, but what makes the xfx stronger?

  • Been waiting for this to go under $900. Thanks OP

Do I sell my 5700xt Red Devil and get this?

Current market says I'd profit from it…

    • +1

      You would definitely

  • Can someone please suggest how is the performance of 1440p 34 inch ultrawide. I am confused to go with this or get the 6900xt red devil. I am not too keen but want to utilize full 144hz of the monitor.
    Thanks

    • +1

It really depends what games. For Esports games it would easily get past 144 fps but for new graphically intensive triple A's it would probably be a touch blow 100 fps. Although saying that I don't think a 6900xt is the way to go, an extra 40-50 frames isn't worth two grand.

      • Thanks a lot for your input.

    • yeah, dont get 6900 xt, see if you can get a 6800 xt and you will be fine, 6900 i snot that much better at 1400 p

      • They got 6800xt for 1749.is it worth that price or go with 6900xt for 2199? Your input plz

        • FWIW, you can get Asrock 6900 xt for $1999
          https://www.bpctech.com.au/rx6900xt-pgd-16go-asrock-radeon-r…

        • its hard to say, if you only need a card to game and you are gaming at 1440p then 6800 xt is all you will need
if you want to push for 4k then 6900 xt - actually if you want 4k you are better off waiting for Nvidia cards….

          • @botchie: Powercolor 6800 xt is 1749 at pc case gear for 250 extra there is asrock 6900xt and at 999 u have 6700xt from pc case gear. I have 34 inch ultrawide 1440p display and i will be using this display for upcoming few years but dont want to see stutter in games. Not planning of 4k at all. Please suggest in this scenario. Thanks

            • @Cmaz: 6900 xt is about 10-15% better so if you are looking at price per frame you dont get that much back
but again if you are looking for price per frame then 6700 xt wins atm since prices are crazy
if you dont care about $$ I would go for 6800 xt as its a nice and quiet card and doesn't draw that much power really
compared to 6900 xt which is big and power hungry

              • @botchie: Wow this statement helped me a lot. I am going to stay with 6700xt as the price difference does not justify. Thank you once again.

                • @Cmaz: Yeah you can always upgrade in a year if prices fix themself , 6800xt was 1068 RRP, you can see how crazy it got

                  • @botchie: Yeah that's what i thought. 6700xt can give me sufficient performance for the time being and once if in future the prices i can upgrade to match my need then. Thank you

  • How is this one for 1440p gaming?
Was considering buying the next 3070 that showed up here

    • +8

Good news, Hardware Unboxed/TechSpot just uploaded a 45 game, 3 resolution comparison between the RX 6700 XT and RTX 3070.

      HUB (video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUGppQVpXzU
      TS (written article): https://www.techspot.com/review/2227-geforce-rtx-3070-vs-rad…

EDIT: The TL;DR or TL;DW of it all is that the 3070 is 4% faster at 1080p and 8% faster at 1440p, but you're better off looking into the individual game results for games you play, assuming they've been tested.

      • Wow this is super detailed, thank you for this!

      • Don't forget regular driver updates can skew results a bit here and there.
I expect AMD drivers to mature with time and provide optimized outcome.

        • Don't forget regular driver updates can skew results a bit here and there.

Naturally. Benchmarks and reviews are snapshots of a moment in time, and should be regarded with that in mind.

The video provides a couple of examples of drivers making steps forward. Fortnite improved dramatically on AMD GPUs at one point but even with that being the case the RTX 3070 is still significantly faster. It's a similar case with Kingdom Come: Deliverance; being a CryEngine game, it performed terribly on Navi GPUs for a while but that seems to be mostly resolved, though performance is still lower than with an equivalent NVIDIA GPU.

At this point I'd hope that the RDNA 2 drivers are fairly mature and that there's not many big performance pitfalls left.

          • @tmr3: Not to mention DLSS and better ray tracing.

    • 3070 is a much better card, i was available for this price few months back but dont think we will see it at that anytime soon

  • +2

    Thanks OP. Ordered 1.

  • More mining! Cheers op!

    • +1

Am not an expert but this particular model does not have the best hashrate for mining compared to its predecessor.

  • +1

Thinking of flogging my Gigabyte rtx 3060 that I bought last month from mwave for this

    Thoughts???

    • You could probably sell yours for a similar price, cards just below an RTX 3070 in comparison. What games you playing ?

      • Just Warzone tbh

    • I think you should. The 6700XT outperforms the 3060 by a noticable margin.

And if you have an older CPU AMD GPUs work better too.

    • just keep it bro, don't waste your money unless it earns you money!

  • Pretty good deal if you NEED a mid-range card right now. It's slightly below RTX 3070 in performance but if you think you can get a RTX 3070 right now for anywhere near this price good luck to you. Even some RTX 3060 are selling at this price.

  • also thoughts if its worth upgrading from a 1080ti? couple of video suggest depending on game average of 15+ frames? and also my daughter needs a card so I'm leaning towards it?

    • probably not worth it but you can sell you 1080ti for close to this now i think
its a slight performance increase + ray tracing

    • If you have a 1080Ti and it plays the games you enjoy reasonably well, consider waiting out the next 12months while the crypto minig and chip shortage settle.

Currently most GPUs are at least an additional 50% over MRSP. Next Gen GPUs are expected (rumoured) to come out around the end of the year or Q1 2022.

  • I'm guessing if my kids needs new a card i can give her my ti and ill have a new toy until i can go green if and when they are at a respectable price!

    • +1

C'mon mate, don't lie. We all know that the kids don't NEED a new card. This is the same "reason" we dads all use to get something new for ourselves. Just to stop the missus from complaining.

  • +1

lol she is actually using onboard graphics no bullshit!! doesn't matter was just about to pay and sold it on me in my shopping cart absolute bullshit!

  • FFS! still worth it though? price wise these are the cheapest going round?

    • Your kids will love the RBG lights. Check it fits.

    • There are some floating around for $999 such as the Red Devil, which is a better model than the Hellhound.

  • +2

    Just ordered.

Yep it's overpriced in a normal market but we're not in a normal market and things won't be returning to normal for many, many months to come. With 3070s price creeping over $1200, unless you want to join the PLE preorder graveyard, a 6700XT at $900 is a comparative bargain (fully expect it will price creep soon too).

Hellhound seems one of the better models too wrt thermals/acoustics from what I read just now, <60C/<40dBa at load per guru3d.

    • Sounds like a perfectly logical argument to me.

I also purchased the Palit RTX 3070 from mighty ape during a recent deal. We can either complain abt high costs or make smart purchases like these given the current scenario if we need it.

  • which one did u get? hellbound 899 is the cheaper one too or the red devil 999

    • RD has a better cooling package.

  • ok no worries thanks anyone buying the red devil @999! I'm still contemplating lol

  • 30% more performance for 30% more dollars. We've come a long way from RDNA 1 boys

    • It would be cheaper if there was a better supply, reasonable price compared with everything else on the market
