I'm thinking about canning my Explorer. The Amex offers are terrible now (CBA are better) and the travel credit is really just hotels right now and the hotels are quite limited.

    • Agree, with the AMEX points value halving, limited hotels & not priced well, average statement offers, not great cards anymore

Agree, I cancelled mine last week.

For anyone with unused travel credits planning to cancel their card - use the credit on a refundable hotel booking, cancel card, then cancel the travel booking. The value of the booking gets put onto your closed Amex account as a cash credit which you can then transfer to your nominated bank account.

        • Ohhh really and you tried this yourself?

          • @nightelves: Yep, waiting for the refund to hit my account.

  • Wasn't this 145k previously?

    • previously it was 145K with no cash back

now it is 90K with $300 cash back

  • Hm the 145k probably worth it more for me.

  • Do I still need to wait 18 months from the date I closed my previous amex card before I become eligible for the bonus points?

    • Could have checked the link… "Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this offer."

  • Does the 3 months start from the day you apply, day it gets approved or the day you get the card?
