[PC] Origin - The Saboteur - $2.49 (was $9.99) - Origin Store

140

Great price for this classic game. Still worth playing and lots of fun.

From the website:

Not all wars are fought on the open battlefield. Download The Saboteur to visit 1940s Nazi-occupied Paris, as you play tough Irish racecar mechanic Sean Devlin. Working with the French Resistance, Sean is out for revenge against ruthless Nazi Colonel Kurt Dierker, who executed Sean’s best friend.

This open-world action thriller takes you through the seedy streets of Paris, as you seek to undermine the German authority and lead a rebellion. Fight across rooftops and through dangerous alleys, and operate a wide variety of vehicles as you navigate your terrain. You can even climb the Eiffel Tower or Notre Dame Cathedral for a sniping mission.

Use stealth and disguise to strike at the heart of the Nazi war machine by disabling trains, destroying bridges, and blowing up enemy facilities. As you work to remove the oppressive forces from parts of the city, the drab black-and-white palette gives way to bright colors, signifying that you have inspired the townspeople. The more you incite the people, the more they will aid you by intervening in fights or providing a quick getaway from pursuing Germans. The Saboteur presents a fresh take on World War II and features dramatic cinematic elements. The action and intrigue is yours to experience via download on the PC now.

Features:

• 1st Ever Open-World Paris - Climb the Eiffel Tour, snipe from Notre Dame Cathedral, and brawl on the Champs d’Elysee as you sabotage your enemies. Fight, climb, and prowl through the dark alleys, rooftops, burlesque houses, and seedy streets of the City of Lights — the ultimate playground for the Saboteur.

• The Art Of Sabotage - Being the Saboteur is all about attacking while staying unnoticed. Get your mission intel at underground clubs and cabarets. Eliminate your adversaries with stealth attacks, disguise, distractions, and explosives. Master a variety of weapons, automobiles, and skills to sabotage enemy operations.

• The Will To Fight - An action-packed experience and thrilling storyline are made even more engaging by an innovative visual style, characters, and the new “Will to Fight” technology. Experience how the city reacts and changes around you as you free it from Nazi oppression. Only you can restore hope and grandeur to Paris.

• French Resistance Strikes - Call in for support from The Underground in the form of getaway cars, weapon deliveries, distractions, and much more.

Enjoy!

I bought this on the last deal but the game won't work. Do you know an easy fix that a layman can understand?

I copied in a link below that might help but it looks like too much mucking around. At this stage I'm just cutting my loss on a massive $2.50 😀

So I just re-downloaded it to see if I could help. I had no issues loading it up, but can see a lot of other people have on various forums.

One thing I found was that the Origin version doesn't have the latest patch which comes with the GOG version (another online games store if you're not familiar). This patch fixes a bunch of issues and allows it to run on modern machines.

Try the below out and see if it helps you, do so at your own risk (but I went through this process without issue).

      1. Download this patch and copy the .exe to your install location (where Saboteur.exe is)
      2. Run the TheSaboteurGogPatch.2020.exe and go through the steps (click next a few times).
      3. In the same folder as your Saboteur.exe is located, run VideoSetup.exe
      4. Change the settings as you see fit; set it to your native resolution and bump all the settings up to high/very high - it's an old game and most systems would probably be fine at max graphics. Close the tool once done.
      5. Run the game via Origin

Like I said I didn't have the issues you encountered initially, but hopefully this might get you up and running.

      • Thank you Wombat and FamousSAS. The game has loaded. I haven't had a chance to test it further than that yet but will give it a crack tonight. Been looking forward to playing this. + to you both.

  • ive had this game for years on cd and never played it. is it actually good?

Such an underrated game, the art style and atmosphere is exquisite. Definitely recommended if you're a fan of open world games, a bit of stealth, and you wanna kill some Nazis. The game was way ahead of its time imo.

I haven't played it in some years, so unsure if the issues mentioned in another comment are fixable.

Agreed with other commenters, absolutely loved this game on release and played it through a few times. Great art style, fun and relatively responsive play and driving mechanics, and amazing music/atmosphere.

    Wish they would make another!

I finished playing through this for the second time a couple of months ago and had forgotten just how good it actually is. The story and game mechanics work really well. There's even an option to turn on the nudity if you feel like it, but it makes no difference to the game play. Just made it awkward to explain to my wife.

  • Awesome game, a steal at this price.

Never had any issues installing/playing the game, had a hard copy thou with W7.
