Electricity Supply Referral Bonus Increased to $150 for Both Referrers and Referees @ PowerShop

270

Powershop have increased the referral back up to $150 until April 30'th this month.

I got signed up from OzBargain myself here maybe 5 years ago and I've been pretty happy with the serivce, it works well and prices have been good, I've also twice now, had other OzB members sign up with my code and gotten me a bonus $150 in credit.

Furthermore, you can 'pre-buy' power, allowing you to gain pretty steep discounts based on your usage.

Here's a link to choice, to see if you'd be happy with them, since I can't link my code!

Hope I've done this right, don't submit often!

Note: The friend who signs up will receive their $150 credit in four instalments across their first year (The first day, 3 months, 6 months and 9 months the retailer starts selling energy to them).

  • Hope I've done this right. By the way the $150 I mention in the post, is 2x$75 credit, when it was $75 that particular month.

I'm biased - I've got a referral link in there - but I'm very happy with PowerShop. Service has been great getting Solar connected, the rates were competitive (if confusing with the Mega Buy pre-purchase discounts), and I get daily snapshots of power usage with monthly usage trends etc.

You can even submit meter reads yourself for power/gas and they'll tell you exactly how much you spent (best for gas, rather than having to wait for 2 months to find out how much you've spent)

    • I've only got them for electricity but it's been pretty good. I've pre-bought quite a bit ahead now and grabbed all the possible discount packs I can, based on my averages it looks like I've managed to reduce my bills relatively reasonably too.

I (obviously) am biased as well, the 2 referrals I've got have basically covered a months electricity in the 4 ot 5 years I've been with them. That has been good too, as it's a 'free month' from nowhere.

      Also with Powershop
Requested a smart meter - installed free. No more reading the meter - usage graph shows in app.

  • NSW Solar feed-in: 7c

    not for me, thank you.

that's generous compared to other companies?

  • what's the rates ?

using energymadeeasy doesn't even show up with powershop , only mojo the cheapest

I used to be with these guys, but I found that even buying largest discounted packs made it still more expensive than just a no frills provider like Tango Energy. $150 is pretty good though, might be good idea to keep an eye on what your actual $/kwh is and switch out after.

why is the daily supply charge so high as compared to say AGL. usage rate is ok i guess

    • There is no daily supply charge as far as I recall (someone correct me if wrong)

      • There is a supply charge for me (vic)
I've recently changed as it is pretty high compared to others $1 a day vs 80c~

        • Ok maybe that's new and I haven't paid attention, the price still feels good to me but appreciate that info.

@hamwhisperer: im in Sydney supply charge shown also, at a difference of $0.30 a day for supply doesn't seem much but at the end of a year that is nearly $110

            • @smeng: Thanks for that info - mind you, if they used this deal, they'd be up $40 already (due to the $150 referral)

I guess it's more on the monthly rates and cost of the power packs.

  • I used to be with powershop. It's great it you stay in top of prepaying discounts.

For me, their base daily charge and usage charges higher than the competition. With prepayment it was worthwhile.

So if you change to them, stay on top of the prepayment offers!

  • Signed up with them for electricity (before this deal) with $100 credit. $100 to be applied in 4 monthly installments. Looks like for this $150 you have to stay with them for whole year. I rather stay 4 months and jump out if need be….

Note they recently changed their model and it's much more comparable with other companies now … Basically apart from the occasional special pack/future pack you're always going to be getting the cheapest rate, i.e. you don't have to pre buy the basic power if you don't want to/can't be bothered. Along with the change I noted the rates where I am in VIC West seemed to drop also so worth a look for this size credit imo.

I've just moved away from Powershop but I would highly recommend.

In the end I moved because I connected solar and my distributor (Ausnet) mandated a time-of-use rate rather than a single rate. For me, powershop were extremely competitive for single rate but not so for time of use.

Notwithstanding, every interaction I had with them was brilliant, any questions easily sorted. Would return in a heartbeat if rates worked out.

  • How can we be assured there are no referral links that have since jumped to another provider which would presumably make our referee bonus invalid?

    • That's an interesting question - is that for scotty who runs the site? I'll try message.
That's a real good question. I know mine still works but we're not here to spam stuff on the site.

    • Nothing. We don't verify whether the referral link provided by members are valid. We do however force the code to be invalidated after 180 days to clear out the old code. Those who still have the service would need to put in their code again.

      • Cheers scotty, makes sense, not much else you can do to be honest.

  • Can someone PM me their private referral code. The 'random' Link on the post doesn't work for me. it says 'error code' on the web browser
