Goodyear Welted is a method of shoe construction first developed nearly 200 years ago and remains to be widely considered as one of the best.
A strip of leather (the welt) is sewn around the bottom of the upper and the insole – this is filled with a foam like material for extra padding and comfort and also allows the entire sole to be removed without causing damage to the full grain leather upper – meaning that, if looked after, they can last a lifetime.

  PSA to OzB-ers. Only sharing my experience but buy at your own risk.

  I've ordered twice in the last 3 months from Rivers. Rivers take forever just to process your order (first one took 3 weeks, last one took 4 weeks for me), then come back with "at the time we processed your order this item was not in stock". This is only to process the order, once processed then they will send the remaining 'in stock' items - after it's sent it arrives pretty quickly but heck the order processing time is ridiculously stupid.

  I will never recommend buying from Rivers online ever again. Walk into a physical Rivers shop if you want anything.

    For what it's worth, I ordered a pair of shoes that were heavily discounted and picked it up the following day with no issues. Port Adelaide store.
