  • Hmm.. interesting, compare it to the recent (a few months ago) ALDI bargain:

    ALDI Tevion 32" Wide TV - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/294

    • Resolution: 1366 x 768 (same)
    • 8ms response time (worse)
    • Contrast ratio: 1000:1 (better)
    • HDMI input (better)
    • Price: $869 (worse)

Big W ACER 32" Wide TV - This pages deal

    • 1366 x 768 (same)
    • 12ms (better)
    • 800:1 contrast (worse)
    • No HDMI input (worse)
    • Price: $698 (better)

Main disadvantage is that it has no HDMI input however the response time is better and the price is $171 cheaper. My only thing against this is that it has no HDMI input however you do pay less for not having it. Also the ALDI TV isn't in stock anymore, I bet it will make a 4th return someday. I haven't looked at comparing it others.

I think this TV is most likely worth it however you are paying for something without HDMI which is the quality of present/future movies, shows and gaming.

  • To be honest, HDMI is more of a marketing gimmick than anything else though. I'd personally have seperate Audio/Video, which will provide more flexibility rather than it grouped together into a cable. If I am not mistaken the Acer LCD comes with 3 Component input. But I do see HDMI being a bargaining point for buyers which purely looks at the specifications, considering that is where technology seems to be heading.

For such a low end screen, having HDMI/DVI probably doesn't even justify it at all. The quality produced by HDMI/DVI probably isn't noticible due to the overall panel and scaler quality.

This will make a good second screen for the home, or if you are looking for a larger PC display for games/movies.

  • rasz,
an 8ms response time is better than a 12ms response time
seems like a good deal though, the acer brand id have to say is more reputable than aldi

  • I thought you need HDMI for any HD content sourced from HD-DVD or BluRay? Yes, 8ms is better than 12ms, although 83Hz (1000/12) vs. 125Hz (1000/8) refresh rate might not make too much difference most of the time.

  • HD content can be transported via component currently. Unless if the manufacturers decided to only allow it through HDMI, that probably will be a marketing move to 'force' people to upgrade and buy new equipments.

  • Interesting, thanks for the discussion :)

  • If you miss out on the deal, don't fret. It seems that this possibly may be an 'everyday low price' after this sale. Also, if you see the on the display an Aiko branded 32" LCD with HDMI, see if they can do the same deal/price as the Acer.
