Acer Iconia Tab A200 8GB 10.1 Tablet $329 before Cash Back! $280 after Cash Back! Harvey Norman

91

mod - 22 April 2012 Update to deal is that the price has fallen to $280 after cashback

Original posting now follows

Saw this on Harvey Norman website. Seems like a decent price for $299 after $50 cash back. Could be a deal breaker for some as its only got 8GB and no 3g support but a 16GB micro SD card can fix that problem and you can share your mobile data via hot spot feature on your phone.

Also mentioned in forums here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/60837

Some info of tablet:(copied from harvey web site).

I tried check it out QV HN in Melbourne, but they didn't have them.
I did see one at JB who have the same deal
    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/tablet/toshiba/7-inch-tab…
It seems to work quite well.

    • That has a 7" screen vs. the 10" of the Acer.

According to this (from the US site as the Australian site doesn't list it)
      http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/XE.H8PPN.005

the Acer tablet is also a "quad core Tegra 2" which I find somewhat hard to believe, as they don't exist (actually the spec page says its dual core in the description, but quad core in the spec sheet, go figure).

      10" vs 7"? I don't see how that works well for u?

      arr… 14s behind cyber… :p

  • FYI - The Acer Iconia Tab A200 will initially ship with the 3.2 Honeycomb version of Google's Android software for tablets, but Acer says the tablet is "Ice Cream Sandwich ready". The company has promised to upgrade the Iconia Tab A200 to Android 4.0 (ICS) from January 2012. Tablets shipped after this date will come pre-loaded with the Ice Cream Sandwich software.

This has been in the forums for more than 2 weeks. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/60837

    • Yes but saw on website today then searched OZbargain and saw it on forums but decided to post it. Not everyone reads the forums.

It's a good deal but you should at least mention that you found it in the ozbargain forums.

        • I saw it on Harvey website first then I searched Oz bargain for it didn't think I had to mention forums, I will link the forum link in the description just in case.

8 GB Hard Drive? I assume it's flash, not really a HDD?

    • SSD.

      • I always thought calling them SSDs was a bit misleading, they (what's in the tablet) (seem) a lot slower, and aren't interchangeable like PC SSDs. Perhaps things that have 'Drive' in their name must maintain an element of self contained modularity maybe.

Can anyone clarify this one way or the other or is it just personal preference in the end?

(btw, Acer refer to it as 'Flash Memory')

  • You won't be able to "fix" it with an SD card, since you can only move apps to the internal storage (8gb). The SD card only works for external pics, music, videos, etc. If u install a couple games from Gameloft 8gb will disappear.

I am confused as to where this model sits with respect to the Acer Iconia A500. The A200 came much later but has very similar specs and half as much flash (only 8GB). Aren't newer models supposed to have better specs. Why would I buy this over the A500 (and yes the A500 is supposed to be getting ICS too). I must be missing something.

    • This model designed to update A100 series.
A700 series designed to update A500.

      • Two birds with one stone…
turbodude: A200 has full size usb but lacks hdmi out and is being promoted as an economical 'family' tablet. That's about it as far as differences are concerned.

stevarja: Wrong on both counts, in that A100 is a 7 inch tab, and A700 will be Acer's top end 10 inch tab with 1900x1200 screen res. This new A200 designation and pricepoint is about separating it from the new A510 and A511 Iconias which will have the same screen res of the old Iconias but will have Tegra 3 processor onboard and will likely land soon with ICS installed.

        • Oh, forgot - no rear camera on A200, but has 2 megapixel front - and of course 8gb as opposed to 16 minimum internal flash relative to A500.

        • Wrong? What a smart-a - i just described what you explained in 50+ words in less than 15 words.

High end and low end dude.

    • It's also half the launch price of the A500.

      • Once it goes half price of the HN and GoodGuys A500 special price I'll buy it

i saw this tablet yesterday out at the springvale HM…. don't know if its all that much of a bargain given that its pretty low spec.. ie only one camera.

turbodude, its been brought in at a lower price point is simply acers lowest end tablet at a 10 inch size

Tempted to neg but I won't. This is not a bargain. This is the normal selling price. And you'll notice that it lacks a back camera which attributes to its lower cost.

    • Agreed, as others have pointed out some of the other models have better specs for similar prices (see other ozbargains), perhaps the new Tegra 3 tablets will also cause a price drop in older model tablets.

    • Well cause of the $50 cash back I thought it was ok to post it. Not sure if it will be $299 after cash back is over but time will tell.

    • Agreed, that's why no one ran from the forums to post this POS, a while back.

    • I know who you are. Haha!

  • I bought A500 32GB @ $310 from Goodguy 3 month ago.

    • +2

similarly I bought an A500 16GB for $249 a few months ago but good luck getting that price anymore.

  • The RRP of the 16GB is ~$20 more, but Hardly Normal have seen fit to lumber people with the 8GB.

  • I saw this a200 at domayne around the start of Jan for $299 - don't remember the cash-back by my guess is this is the normal price.

  • stevarja - no reply option directly under your post, but here's one anyway:
Your post conveyed zero useful information for Ozbargainers considering buying this tab and you know it. No accuracy either, and you know it.
A 10 inch tab doesn't 'update' a 7, and the 'update' for the A500 Iconia will be the A510.
High; ability to be offended. Low; thickness of skin. Dude.

  • Only 8GB, I thought 16GB was bad enough but 8GB is rediculous. You cannot store much on this tablet. It's $348 before cashback, anyone who have gone through the cashback process knows that it can be time consuming and can take a few weeks to get the cash back. Plus for this price its not a bargain. You are better off with a Transformer or a Tablet S.

    • It has micro sd card so you can add to the total up to 40gb! I have gone through cash back and yes it is bad, I agree with you on that note. But on ebay there are worse deals than this and not a even tegra 2 tablet so I thought it was ok for the price range but obviously there were better deals before with iconia A500. Problem is not everyone atm is patient to wait for another fire sale! Until then this not that bad of a deal. It's not like they are asking $499

  • Why get this, when you can get the A500 or the Asus Transformer for $385 brand new from MSY?
    Look @ http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/notebook.pdf

    • Because the A200 has the same OS and display but is more than 33% cheaper… $280 is a lot less than $395!

  • The deal has an expiry of April 30.
