Looking for a Mobile with a Good Camera between $400 and $600

-Update-
Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions, I think the recently released Samsung A52 looks like winner due to the apparently awesome camera and as it is also offering Bonus Galaxy Buds Live. Being a recent phone, it should also get updates for a while.

I'm not necessarily looking for people here to tell me, but what is the best method of looking for models of phones in a particular price range?

If you do want to suggest a recommendation, that would be great. Thanks.

    • I have done that but I was wondering about the best method, as there might be a well regarded site. Like there is CamelCamelCamel to check on Amazon prices, I wondered if there was something for phones.

It's strange that those who have contributed the least to this website are often the most critical and condescending.

To be fair, if you had provided this additional and relevant information in your post (the first para), some may respond in a way that you wanted.

True, but I don't think people need to be condescending when uncertain of a posters motives. Others didn't seem to need the clarification and chose to be helpful.

@FabMan: So you didn't want us to list a particular phone, just a place to search for phones that meet your requirements?

I link you to a search engine that does EXACTLY what you want and get called condescending?

            Cool. Thanks.

Teach a man to fish etc…. rather than spoon feeding you. I know people can't think for themselves these days, but really?

If you are not sure what info we need to assist, then tell us everything, or you have already tried something and it didn't work, then TELL US.

How do I know you hadn't tried Google? You never said you had…..

@oscargamer: I don't want to get involved in whatever you are trying here. Cheers.

pixel probably. maybe iphone se if quality is good enough.

    Google Pixel 4a.

    • +1

      Google Pixel 4a 5g.

      • Can you get it for under $600?

        • It has been that price in the past. (Deal recently expired.)

    • I'd lean towards the 4 (rather than the 4a), but both are good choices at that price point.

      • As a 4 owner, I’d lean towards the 4A. Newer means more support in terms of software, and battery sucks on the 4

This is true - but the OP is specifically interested in a good camera. And the 4 beats the 4A in that regard.

    Huawei P30

      P30 Pro?

      • if in price range yes.

    • I'd second this, Huawei for his still wins the camera race

Samsung A52 seems to have OK Cameras. It has a great screen and IP67 water resistance.

Got one recently, way better camera than my old S9. Really happy with it, dont see the point buying S line phones anymore

      • Seriously? If the A52 camera is that good, it is that is definitely a good option.

Was surprised, photos are way better, macro lenses is great too.

I had a choice swapping out the battery for the S9 for $150 or upgrading. Education discount + $50 voucher came to $430, sold S9 for $350. No brainer, way better phone, only two thing S9 had that A52 doesn't; notification light and wireless charging. Dont care for wireless charging given all the advantages including much bigger battery. S21 is $1000 more, dont see value proposition.

          • @Bid Sniper: A52 looks good, how is the finger print reader? I've got used to the ease of having finger print on the back.

            • @mt19: It actually works really well.

I didnt use in the S9 since it was annoying spot and had to get it just right to unlock. Thats probally one of my fav feature on the A52, unlock works great.

      • But S9 is better for low light photography. It has f/1.5, while A52 is f/1.8.

Huawei P20 Pro or P30 Pro - both still support google play.

They also have a Huawei Mate series which is also good.

Oppo have a range of phones which would also fall into this price range.

I personally dislike Samsung as they don't honour their warranties and the phones tend to get issues after 12 months.

    • I think Samsung honour their warranties.. but they are too expensive these days as they aim to be the Apple of the Android world.

      • ive had bad experience with samsung warranties so in general i too stay away.

      • I took my phone to Samsung and they factory reset it and handed it back to me, stating it was a 'replacement'

I was so mad I just walked out - no one deserves to be abused by angry customers.

        • I had a watch strap keep breaking on my fit device - known issue (common in online forums)
Samsung continued to say that it wasn't under warranty until i forced the issue - we are doing it out of goodwill.
Another time they refused to acknowledge battery issues with a mobile until it drain 40% while under diagnostic.
the replaced it with another device which would just overheat for no reason.

        • So did the factory reset, solve your issue?

          • @BuyOrNot: Nope. The phone got so bad it stopped working altogether. Spent 4 months arguing with both my network provider and Samsung over a reception issue.

Bought a Huawei and haven't looked back since.

I got the oppo reno 5g on sale for $600 last year and the camera set up has been great - 16mm equiv ultrawide, normal, 2x telephoto (goes up 60x but 10x is usable) and with OIS. 2019 flagship for 2020 midrange money.

Hard to find nowadays but take this as a recommendation of the brand and you could get last year's oppo find x2 pro on sale.

If you buy one before Friday you get the $349 Samsung ear buds thrown in for free

    • Nice

  • Have you considered buying a used late model iPhone or Samsung S range?

  • With all the minions buying new phones all the time I'd get a second hand Galaxy S10+ for $500. Love the photos on that one.

  • Blackview BL6000Pro

  • 2nd hand iPhone X, they can be had for around $400 on eBay. Great camera.
