I've noticed a lot of things are quite a bit more expensive on Ali to Australia compared to past years, and less free shipping. I used to use it quite a bit. More often than not now i'll see the same thing cheaper on ebay, even amazon sometimes.
Yep. I've noticed it too. I was searching for a bottomless portafilter (no filter basket) on Aliexpress a few days ago, and the cheapest I could find is around $28. I got one two days ago on ebay for less than $24, including a filter basket

Considered DIYing it? I did mine for my Silvia a few yrs back, pretty easy with a decent metal holesaw and drill. Otherwise am sure if you went to a local workshop they'd drill out for $20. After you've used the bottomless one, you do not miss the OEM version so it's a very low risk effort.
A few things have changed with Ali in the past year
One is that they decided that post had to be tracked, so suddenly everything had several extra dollars added to it.
Two is that they changed the search. Now, if you select 'lowest price' you get some AI determined list (similar to ebays 'best match')You can still find cheaper than ebay prices, but it's a lot harder.
I've also noticed that adding items with free shipping and buying them through the cart charges for shipping with no fee shipping option, but it you purchase through using buy now on the product page, free shipping is included.
Really weird and probs illegal too.

Every time I check eBay another item has gone up in price.
Pays to cross check both platformsI find that the prices some times go up after I login. If I open some items up in incognito mode, it's a little cheaper.

I've had so many issues with suppliers either sending faulty items, dodgy returns process or items not arriving. Is it just my bad luck every 3rd order would be a dud despite the seller being reputable and having large order numbers.

Worse still, for products which don't ship (as proven by the fact that tracking never resolves and/or after subsequent emails demanding more payment for unexpected shipping price increases) you can never leave a review because the transaction is never completed.
There is very little capacity to impact the reputation of bad products or sellers, least not if you are in the process of pursuing a refund since they invariably compel you to "cancel the order for sellers change of mind" to action a refund, rather than admitting a product was faulty or never shipped.
Yeah, I've moved away from AliExpress and actually closed my account. I've gone back to eBay and am letting local sellers take the risk for a slight increase in price.

I find Alibaba confusing. I don't want to negotiate about shipping etc. I just want it shipped.

Find it on Alibaba and can you order one as a sample, works every time.
Had a Zero 10X for 2 years or so, put nearly 2000km on it. Loved it. Now moved onto a bigger and faster scooter.

@UncleRico: I wonder if it's related to what what membership level you are. Normally a higher level means disputes are more easily won and freebies are easier to get. Though it could determine coupon usage. Or I'm overthinking it.
