  • Why does it still have the massive notch is beyond me.

    • +14

Face ID, uses a whole bunch of sensors/cameras.

iPhone 13 still has a notch but it's much smaller. Apple is slow to move forward but the user experience is generally really solid.

      • +1

this^ first time iPhone user can attest that iPhone is better than all the Samsung's I used in the past. iphone is just more solid. hardware and software

    • +3

People's wallets are not speaking loudly enough to warrant Apple needing to make an immediate change.

      • +1

People's wallets / their customers are speaking to them by still buying the phones

I think the iphone 12 pro max etc still had good sales for them..

      • -4

I will never buy a phone from apple cos they are overpriced phones. They make it difficult to move data from apple to android. They slow the performance of Apple phones of their buyers so that they can extract even more from unsuspecting customers

        • I will never buy a phone from apple cos they are overpriced phones. They make it difficult to move data from apple to android. They slow the performance of Apple phones of their buyers so that they can extract even more from unsuspecting customers

and other musings from a typical Apple hater. Purchase these audiobooks read by CoronaV in their most dulcet tone possible. Just search for the Hater Files on your audiobook library, now.

          • @ThithLord: I don't hate apple phones. I hate apple as an organisation

          • @ThithLord: Search audio book for apple addicts and addiction

            • @[Deactivated]: Define addict? I'm on my second iPhone that I've ever owned. First one I had for four years. Am I addicted?

              • -1

@ThithLord: No but majority are addicted and they don't even know it

          • -1

@ThithLord: this is true, their phone is overprice for what you get with it

I don't hate their products though, just the high price they charge for it and what you get with it.

I also used apple products : ipad, iphone
Their ipad is really good though and has no real competition
so I don't mind buying the ipad..

the iphone though is overprice, even the based model iphone 12 gives you 64gb vs others that give you 128GB
and need to pay $1000+ vs android $500+ etc..

also the notch is butt ugly..
Watching videos on iphone in full immersion mode is crap when that huge notch ruining your view…
so you need to revert to a smaller screen ie hide the notch with two black bars on the side if you don't want to see the ugly notch

When they get rid of that ugly notch is when their phone's full screen will finally look good..

They even were hiding that notch in their advertising
            https://www.thesun.co.uk/tech/8000762/apple-sued-for-hiding-….

Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave
with how ugly the notch has made his beautiful phones..

Even their new imac look crap with the huge chin underneath
They could have put the parts behind the screen rather going for thinness which results in an ugly design

            • +1

@pinkybrain: I personally rather have the notch to have Face ID etc and being able to still have the time and battery status without taking up screen realestate than compromise with subpar technology or a hole punch camera. You don’t even notice the notch after a while. My XS Max is also still running as good as the day I bought it and it’s like a 3 year old phone now and I don’t even feel the need to upgrade. They’re worth the premium over android phones that aren’t even supported after a year and have features removed by the manufacturer (hello Samsung) and just a load of crap.

        • They make it difficult to move data from apple to android.

Its like moving your money from a bank to a tin box in your garage

    • +1

cos apple is still getting good sales on the notch phones..
people who buy apple don't care about the notch or not enough to prevent them from buying iphone

When apple finally releases a notchless phone using punch camera etc or whatever method
then their customers will go wow and think this latest apple invention/feature is amazing.

But for now Apple is still milking the notch as long as they can
but covid is making face ID more useless due to the facemasks so now they let you unlock with an apple watch etc..

Apple has been very far behind in terms leading tech or features for a long while now..
Just look at what you can get on Android phones versus iphone

The last time when they were leading the market was when they release the first iphone when everyone was still using a keyboard/numpad.

      • +3

Yep, the Android phones are much faster than the Apple phones, and iOS14.5 doesn't let you use FaceID with a mask on, and 5G Android phones that support full 5G are much much cheaper than Apple phones.

Oh wait, I think I have that back to front… ;^)

        • lol you had me there, I was curious just which phones you were thinking of

    • Because people will buy apple no matter what

  • +13

Just a reminder about the afterpay and the white box fiasco from this seller in previous deals.

    • +3

Hesitant to buy anything off Mobilecity after that. Their sales tactics were very misleading.

    • what was the problem?

quick summary here would be useful for people reading here
      rather going through the thread

      • +4

They sold used phone as brand new.
Probably demos or returned from previous customers and reboxed it

        • They have advertised white box as seller's refurbished in their ad.
They have Brand New as well which is mentioned on the eBay ad.

Moreover if the iPhone you received is already activated then it is refurbished, does not matter if you bought from their Brand New - if its the case then raise a case via eBay.
They would take back if any issues, normally they are good and in business for long time.

          • @MyLoginName: Last time they stuffed up and lost heaps of people's trust.

This time by the look they did mark it refurb white box and brand new.

Hopefully brand new means sealed unopened box.

But still would have lost business to many potential buyers

            • @lovepub: Agree, hopefully the one I ordered today comes Brand New.
I checked the serial number from tax invoice and it says "not activated yet" so seems all good.

I would check again the condition of box etc. once I receive.

              • @MyLoginName: Which one did you order? The one with White Box in the listing?

                • @BLAIL: No I ordered Brand New one from their listing.

I asked them about white box listing, they mentioned white box one would come already activated, their justification was that they received those boxes as damaged so to ensure they activated the phone but it is never used by anyone!

All iPhone 12 128GB are refurbished

    • Where does it say this?

      • Nevermind I thought it was the 12 Pro, my bad

  • +1

Just wondering, why the 512G excluded every single time.

  • Can I purchase AppleCare for this product afterwards? (In the sense that is it compatible w/ Australian stock etc)

    • Yeah you should be for the new ones within 60 days from the date of purchase. You can then purchase the AppleCare directly through the phone settings. (But not sure about the refurbished or white box ones)

    • Wondering the same, especially their so called white box as new units…

  • Are these new?

  • +2

There is 1 x BRAND NEW Apple iPhone 12 - 64GB - Black (Unlocked) MGJ53X/A SEALED IN BOX listed on ebay:joyonemobile for $1037 using PLUSFL15 (only 1 available or I would have posted a deal).

    • Apologies if my comment shouldn’t have been posted here. Just thought it might help someone.

  • Which other phone is worth the bargain on their store? Huawei P30 Pro? P40 Pro has no Gapps….

  • Wow. My work just sent me this yesterday as a work phone upgrade. I am an Android guy myself and never understood why these are so expensive!

    • cos it is apple

    • +6

ios, support, better warranty, privacy are a few reasons

  • All the Max 256 I found are refurbs.

  • +4

If its anything to go by the previous 2 debacles by Mobilecity in trying to sell refurbished iphones as new, I am not touching them with a 10 foot pole.Dodgy as

    • Go to Parramatta and yell at them mate. Report them to ACCC if you got evidence. I would if I bought one

    • I didn’t have any issues last time (3yrs ago) so hopefully all good with the new phone this time round (not refurbished)

  • -2

    No Afterpay option?

  • $796 for iPhone Xs Max 64gb, is it good price?

    • -1

check on: https://www.staticice.com.au/ for a comparison

    • If you are in Sydney David Jones are offloading theirs cheaper in the city store - they had about 6 left yesterday

      • Geez that’d be a solid deal. I’m very happy with my XS Pro Max.

Refurb Iphone 12 Mini 128GB is $960.49 not bad

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/373522105714

be quick looks like price error. Same price as 64GB

    • +1

It’s prob scratched up. That’s why is cheap bud

  • +2

Tempted to switch from Samsung to one of these.

Have had the note 10+ for a year and a half now, looking to upgrade.

Was keen on the trade in deal posted but the RRP of a 256gb S21 Ultra is $1950 wtf. Even with the $400 trade in bonus, $200 coupon, $50 email coupon and $260 trade in value for my note 10+, it's still about $1050~ plus we get the Exynos variant still (though better, still worse than SD)

I can probably sell my note 10+ for about $400 or so l, pay the $1000 on top and get this phone instead…

    • Exynos being worse than SD is subject to what YouTube videos you choose to watch. They are neck and neck this year. It's not the blanket "wOrSe than SD" copy and paste comments people love doing.

  • Thanks OP! Great deal on the pro max 256gb brand new

Works out to be $1715.99 with free delivery and returns with eBay plus.

    Thankyou!

All good mate, giving back to ozB fam :) Mine's getting delivered tomorrow, fingers crossed that the boxes are sealed. I'll report back once received.

    • Received phone today brand new sealed in original packaging

  • +1

    Be careful. Some are refurbished.

    • Yep agree, this is new as it doesn’t say like new a s comes with 24months warranty etc…

I also found another seller - not sure if anybody has purchased from them

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Apple-iPhone-12-Pro-Max-128GB-25…

      • +1

Don't buy from that seller, specifically states Overseas Model in the description

        • Thankyou for the advice! Clearly I missed that 🙏🏽🙏🏽

  • +1

    Ended up buying this
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/143991488338
    Supposedly new… AU stock.
Will see when I get it.

    • Nice. I’ll do the same, it’s free returns on eBay plus in case it’s not as described 😁👍🙌🏼

      • +1

        Got mine today.
It was new, in the box, with a tax invoice and stated 2 year Australian Apple store warranty.
Pretty chuffed, given that I paid $1657, with an additional $45 off in ebay gift cards from ShopBack (3% cash back on $1500 gift cards).
Hope your experience is as good.

  • would JB HI-FI or Officeworks price match/beat Mobileciti’s eBay listing? especially since its also an Australian brick-n-mortar store 🤔

    • +1

      Generally won’t match coupon codes

      • cool. thanks.

  • If you guys dont mind the refurb,
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/402759919280
    Still available now.

  • +4

I just bought it from them.

The iPhone 12 Pro 256G brand new / sealed.

I find it is not brand new. The iPhone is covered with a white paper.

The warranty date is until 03/04/2022.

The apple support cannot find the iPhone model in Australia.

I already ask for a refund or replacement.

They are just messing up with us and trying to fool someone who does know to check.

I am so sad for this and does not trust eBay anymore

    • It is just a waste of time checking it and returning it.

    • Did you order the white box, or the brand new one? The price of white box is about $200 cheaper than brand new one.

      • +1

I ordered the brand new one.
I brought it to the Apple store and they checked it. Apple says it is a brand new one.

They bought it from Telstra and then sold it to me. That explains the difference in the warranty time.

Then I bought apple care from the apple store which ensures this is the genuine one and I don't need to return it.

    • the serial number I got is 13 characters long, ends in 64GRY and apple website keeps saying
We’re sorry, but we are unable to complete your request at this time. Please try again later.
Not sure how to check its status.

      • I got the phone, apple warranty runs out in 50 days. Even though the phone is clean and looks good, I will return it.

  • +4

I bought an "open box - as new" Iphone 11 Pro max 256gb and it arrived today.

The phone came in a generic white box even though it didn't mention anything about that in the ad at all.

On the box, there is even a label saying "B/Good". I would say this refers to the condition of the phone.

The phone came with full of scratches on one side of the phone and on the screen, nothing close to being "as new" to me.

What a disappointing experience with ebay and this store, it feels like it is a total scam.

I have requested a return and a refund straight away. What a waste of time and I should have listened to everyone else here about them before ordering.

  • Got my ‘white box’ 12 mini today. $960 I think it was for the 128gb version in grey. Stoked, came in white box with phone bubble wrap and and just the charging cable, but phone was looked brand spanking, just no protective covers. Under the Apple store app it says it has limited warranty ending in Dec 21.

    Would buy again.
