Laptop is currently $3499 on the general store. Ships early June. So right now it is slightly cheaper than Legion 5 Pro 16" by $70. Legion 7 has better cooling using vapor chambers and all metallic chasis vs the Legion 5 Pro, also has per key RGB vs 4 zone.

  • I am personally waiting for the 3080 variant, but there isn't a huge performance difference between 3070 and 3080 (around 10% in games).

  • +1

Nice find OP, my Legion 5 Pro arrived this week and is unreal.

Worth haggling with sales team if you don't mind missing out on a batch- took a while for a quote to be sent through before I could pay.

    • How are the thermals, fan noise on load, screen, keyboard, speakers. Thanks

      • Lenovo does thermals pretty much the best on semi-slim high powered gaming laptops

      • +1

Here is the review on the laptop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC5PPazhpg4

Have to wait a little bit for him to test everything.

      • +8

Laptop was placed on an old star wars gaming mat not ideal for cooling/ ventilations - have only just purchased a cooling pad so will be different. However:

Thermals were cool- played SWTOR on ultra 2k for an hour and the back right base was warm, the rest felt cool and didn't feel a thing on the keyboard.

Fan noise was a tad concerning until I updated BIOS and a few other changes and was barely noticeable.

Screen is amazing, I used to have a great right the PG279Q 2k and that felt like a thing of beauty- going to this bad boy it's unreal. 16:10 ratio is perfect- I looked at the screen a good 3 metres away on a tight angle and could see everything.

Keyboard is great to type on- very responsive and personally taking a while to readjust to a full keyboard. Some people might find this a bit annoying there is a bit of flex directly between the track pad and space bar (2cm squared) I haven't noticed it at all while typing etc.

Speakers are pretty great admittedly watching Netflix ( I had it on quiet mode) they weren't the loudest @ 100%. Turned it back to standard and were excellent. Playing around with it a bit this morning there is a free application called nehimic that changes settings etc and is unreal- has a few presets and made it even more impressive.

I watched a great review before mine rocked up: https://youtu.be/YFgsLCWlx1k

Any other questions feel free to ask

        • Hang on, what are the differences between 5 pro and 7? Anything else other than op said?

          • @badonde: while the cooling system does seem to produce lower temps on the L7 (from initial reviewers observations), it's important to note this doesn't allow faster graphics or cpu performance with the same spec'd parts. they both reach and can sustain the same maximum wattage, L7 just runs cooler. L7 may just be running the fans faster (but more likely to be the vapor chamber making the cooling better).

FWIW - i can say the fan sounds, fan speeds and ramping behaviour on the L5P are impressive, very natural and pleasant 'whoosh' sound, no high pitched whirring or hissing. The ramping is also nice and natural when it gets faster. some laptops change fan speed abruptly which is super distracting.

            • @eggboi: Nice. Is the 5 available at the old price anywhere or has it been since?

              • @badonde: The full spec model has reappeared on the store again, just says “call for availability” tho. At this stage unless you hate the rgb and lid design, i’d grab the L7 in this deal. The “early june” thing means a shipment has been allocated. My L5P order said “late april” and arrived on the 23rd, pretty happy with that.

  • Wonder if the Legion 7 is going to be better than the Legion 5 pro? I did place an order yesterday for the Legion 5 pro so probably would have time to change my order. Looks like essentially the same specs as Legion 5 pro though, except for full RGP and 3080 gfx option.

How much could i get Legion 7 for if i chatted with a sales rep?

Legion 5 pro will be pretty awesome though.

    • Yeah very weird marketing decision. Basically same same but different. L7 has that really nice rgb lighting on the chin and exhaust, which i wish my L5P had. But then the stupid sideways “legion” wording on the lid of the 7 is gross in my opinion. Much prefer the Y design on the L5P lid. In reality I’ll never pay much attention to either feature! So then price is the determining factor. L5P wins here, also I have it here with me now which is another plus rather than waiting til june. And the 3080 option in the L7 won’t be worth the $400-600 price increase over the 3070. Especially since 16gb vram is expensive and not very useful right now. I figure by the time 16gb vram is needed, I’ll sell this and grab the 2022-2023 legion lol.

    • Was able to get it down to low 2600 with talking through sales rep this arvo :)

      • Lower than 2650?

        • Yes, lower than 2650 however YMMV as I know when my friend asked, he got pushed back and sales rep said that it was the lowest they could go.

        • +1

No, I think 2650 is the lowest they will go tbh.

Below is my quote, I did add 3 years warranty, since thats how long I usually keep a laptop.

          https://imgur.com/emPn7Vi

Also my cashrewards also just tracked $133.52 cashback. I don't think the education store has cashback. So if I actually get the cashback then it will be a few hundred cheaper than the education store.

          • @azukay: Can you send the quote number?
I've started chatting with a rep and they asked for quote number to match it

    • Where did u buy the 5 pro and how much?

      • Right now 5 pro in Australia is only available via Lenovo website. Was $2439 at one stage, but now is out of stock at @ $2799

      • On the Lenovo Australia site

        https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5…

Top model is $3279 but if you chat to a sales rep online, you should be able to get it much cheaper.

        • how much cheaper do you think?

        • how much cheaper do you think?

          • @denlife: Someone upthread suggested around 2650 which doesn't seem unbelievable given that it was 2450 two weeks ago and 2799 last week.

  • Chat with sale representative today, the bottom line is $2680, I mentioned the $2650 and showed the screen shot but cannot help any further. Got it at $2680, but can be canceled before shipping if I find a better deal in the waiting period. Early June ETA + 3~5 days shipping period said by them.

    • Or just cancel chat and try your luck a second time with another rep. Unless they have some internal algorithm which decreases the amount of discount as the stock level drops.

      • Just ordered today, early July + 10 day shipping.

Could only get $2899 with 3 year on site warranty

        • I don't even have an estimated date yet

          • @azukay: This was directly from the sales rep. at the time of ordering. I'm sure it's subject to change.

You could contact them directly and ask for an ETA?

            • @abowen: I'll just wait it out, the laptop isn't even for myself anyway. Was meant to be a graduation gift for my brother.

  • It says "Call for availability" now, can be added to cart though.
    I guess the ETA changes?

    • Just ordered today, sales rep. told me early July + 10 day shipping.

      • wow… That's a bit late… Hope they can come a bit earlier than ETA

  • Now gone from the store " No available models"

    • Restock, but now edu store asking for $3039, ETA late May

      • thats a bit of a jump, can probablly talk them down a bit through chat. Im not in a massive rush, hoping they have some even better deals next month for EOFY sales

  • Does anyone know the ETA for the next batch of Legion 5 pro?

  • +1

Finally got mine yesterday, impressive quality feeling. Yes, DHL Express delivers on Sunday, even during VIC lockdown :)

    • Nice, I ordered the 3080 version, ETA is 3 months away…. soo anyhow we will see if that's just a placeholder date. DHL has always been exceptional in my experience, never more than 2 or 3 days usually shipping anywhere in the world. Only time it takes longer is if customs decides to rip open and inspect your package. And yes, I've gotten Sunday delivery on more than 1 occasion.

That being said, Amazon will also do Saturday and Sunday deliveries in my area using private contractors, had more than 1 occasion where a guy in a rundown toyota yaris hopped out with my parcel on a Sunday…

    • Just got mine yesterday as well - does your unit produce a high frequency noise regardless of its load? Mine does and it's really annoying.

      • Mine does not, but this problem is issued by the latest BIOS update, check legion 7 support page, the version is 36WW. If that still exists, enter BIOS and adjust Advanced Thermal Optimization from 1 to 2 or 3 and see if that helps. In most cases default 1 after BIOS update reduces the noise.

    • Well my laptop just shipped from China this morning and it is clearing Australian customs now. So not that long a wait for me. Ordered 25th May and probably getting delivered Monday if there are custom delays. So just under two weeks for the 3080 variant.
