Is this a great deal? The 5600x gets posted up here relatively often at the mid 400's mark. The tray version even less

    • This deal basically prices the 5600x at the MSRP of $469 (within a dollar).

      • Is that MSRP factoring the stock cooler you'd get, but wouldn't get with this?

        • The MSRP would also have a stock cooler but I guess if you're getting a cooler like this with it, you don't consider the stock cooler to be of much value.

    • Yep this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/619706 is only a few days old (expired, but still, shows it's a fairly current price) and has:

      • This CPU for only $435
      • The 3300x (not quite as fast and a couple less cores, but very very similar game performance) for $165

So this isn't really a bargain unfortunately.

      • four cores in 2021 is a bit iffy because of future games leaning towards multi-thread.

        • Many current games are already heavily multi-threaded. Most are still faster in the 4-core 3300x than the 6-core 3600.

You'll see a lot of this talk from first-time PC builders about needing to "future-proof". It basically always turns out to be wrong in the end. For example, everyone said 2 cores wouldn't be enough soon, and we needed 4 at minimum to future proof, almost 10 years before it became true.

You might want to think a bit more carefully than they do, before spending triple the money just to "future proof".

          • @ItsMeAgro: LOL downvoted again. Can't seem to convince people excessive future-proofing isn't the best strategy, despite all the evidence, over and over.

More proof if anyone cares: 3300x beating the 3600 in most modern multi-threaded games:

    • No, not a good deal at all, unless you feel that the cooler is a bargain at about $150.

    Not a bargain

  • $250 for a 10600kf

  • This would have been fine a few months ago but I agree it's not a bargain anymore, also it costs $23 to ship to me in North Sydney sooo….also I'm a stickler for collecting boxes so all these oem deals hurt real bad.
