Edit: I've learned something… Originally I assumed that the big power brick in the product image indicated DC, then realised it could just be a step down and indeed it looks like it is, with this "family" product indicating it's 12V AC

This simply means that it's harder to substitute these crappy mr16 to longer lasting LEDs. You need to find 12 AC LEDs.
Low voltage AC is superior than DC for long distance runs of cable.
