iPad Air 4th Gen or iPad Pro 2020?

need an iPad ASAP, checked the upcoming pro - shipping ETA Mid-June for where I am so not keen to wait
comes down to iPad Air 4th gen (2020) 256GB $1129 @Apple or iPad Pro 2020 128GB $1049@ Good Guys
standard surfing, documents emails etc - not for gaming, video editing etc
Which one will most likely give it more longevity? I think that's what's most important for me at this stage.
Much appreciated.

    iPad Pro - M1

You should wait 2 weeks for more years on the longevity.
Looks like a good deal to me.

    • thx, agree would have been a no brainer if I didn't have a time constraint, hence wanted to see people's thoughts

      • Have access to an Apple store?

Looks like the new iPad Pro will be in stock in Apple stores from May 21…you can buy online and collect at store by checking each store stock level daily.

Also don't forget you can buy the 2020 version from Apple now and return/exchange within 14 days if that helps with your constraint

Buying the 2020 model now does not make sense regardless

        • Ah cool thx, when i popped an address it it gave me mid June and no store availability for pick up but agree thats probably because not out yet. Hopefully its not going to be too limited

@p-plater: You will be easily able to get it from Apple on launch day, it says unavailable because it hasn’t been released which is what was said about the airtags when it was on preorder but changed to in stock on launch day.
As long as you go on launch there isn’t going to be limited stock

    • You should wait 2 weeks for more years on the longevity.

Except it's likely not going to be 2 more weeks. Some reports saying that they won't actually be in customer hands until at least June/July.

FWIW, I think years is a bit of a stretch as well. The M1 is fantastic, but the A14 in the iPad Air 2020 is no slouch either. The only real line between the two would be in heavily threaded applications, but how often are you doing this on an iPad?

It's also not just a matter of waiting a bit longer, but with the new 11" Pro coming in at $1200 and the 11" Air on sale for often as low as $750, you have to ask yourself whether it's worth paying over 50% more.

      • do you mind telling me where you may have seen 11" air at that price point?
places im looking are no where near that

          • @Nalar: $790 is not $750 mind you and also you have to have after pay for that deal and next time the after pay deal comes back you can get a great discount on the M1 iPad Pro making it sub $1000 which makes it a much more compelling option. 8 core CPU and gpu will smoke the air in my opinion.
And as @FIVEDOLLAR said the M1 will have years more longevity compared to the air.
Also didn’t mean to tag @nalar, meant to tag @p1 ama

      • Nope.
This is Apple's new chip design moving forward with the rest of their products in the transition process.

You are most likely going to get better longevity - years~.

Air over Pro for the 2020 generation.

M1 Pro over 2020 Pro (but you pay for it)

Normal ipads are for children. Pro is what grownups should use, unless they poor.

Maybe could you clarify what you’re using it for, and what the urgency is for its use so that we can have context clues to help give you an informed opinion?

  • You said you'd use the iPad for surfing, documents viewing/editing, emails… iPad Air 4th gen or iPad Pro 2020 would be overkill for those tasks already.

Best bang for your buck? i.e. depreciation, get the latest one for better resell value. Don't care about that? get any

Can't wait? get the newer model, i.e. iPad Air 4th gen, cause you want longevity

very simple :) if money is not an issue here
