Price matching at Harvey Norman is not always a straightforward or successful experience.

My experience with HN is that they work on a salesperson commission and each has a daily sales target. To circumvent this, I picked up the printer and walked straight to the cashier and asked the cashier to match. They did hesitate and ask who am I matching with but when I mentioned Big W, the person didn't hesitate at all and immediately honoured it.

      • Can confirm - this worked for me too… though I used Bing Lee and got an extra 10 off.
Had to go twice - first guy, who seemed to be the manager and was showing me the printer, stated they can't price match due to this having the Epson offer. Next day, found the guy behind the counter who looked like he was waiting to go home.. he put it through quite quickly. :)

  • Any good suggestion for an A3 colour printer and scanner? Thanks!

    • Got a HP7610 from the GG. Software is a dog but the platten scanner uses machanics to scan and assembles the result in software. Can even print next imperial size larger than A3 if you can find matching paper. Document feeder is A4 only. Endless Indians calling me and sending me ink……

Good price but consider investing in a laser printer if you'll be printing a lot.

Don't know much about printers but if you don't print much even then won't laser printer be a better option because i heard that ink drying up is an issue with inkjets if you don't use them regularly ?

    • +1

Cost is an issue. Yes the per page print would be cheaper but the upfront cost for a decent colour laser printer is a big gap
Now the issue is, comparing a $150 inkjet to a $450 laserjet, I could potentially buy ink with the difference in the printer cost

Plus after a good 3-4 years, its probably better to get a new printer anyway with newer tech or driver compatibility. Especially for MacOS they really don't update printer drivers for older models.

    HN Online Chat:

I'm afraid we cannot match this, as we have the cashback offer on the printer that is exclusive to us. As such we cannot match any prices that don't have the offer, we require our pricematches to be like-for-like. https://www.harveynorman.com.au/customer-service/price-match…

      What are the exclusions?
Offers which include cash back, bonus, bulk purchase, quantity limits or packages.

      • Thanks for sharing. Could be worth doing it in store to see if they would match it

      • Technically there is no like for like clause in HN matching policy.

Plus the clause 'offers which include cash back…..' means the price you ask HN to match is after cashback… eg. Let say a printer has a quoted advertised price of $100 and there is a cashback of 20, and then u ask HN to match for $80.

All these price guarantees at HN or Officeworks etc are a marketing tool. They will find and push any reasons to you to not honouring it. Out of my principle, I think one company to nsw fair trading and I won and I was given the matched price, but that takes many weeks. Sadly our nsw fair trading is also a toothless tiger, all it can do is overrule in my favour but no fine or asking the company not to use price guaraantee statement.

    • Sadly Bing Lee store only exists in NSW & ACT so shipping kills it

Been a long time since I have printed a paper. I mostly just open the document in "Write on PDF" Samsung app. I wonder these printer companies would be bleeding as the days go by….. if I was them I would try to go into manufacturing 3D printers.

    • why do you use the samsung app? i have it on my tablet and wondering what i may be missing

      • I use it to sign/write, save and send the document back. You can use the s-pen to write or use the inbuilt textbox on specific position to insert text. No need to print, write and scan back in.

I had an Epson multifunction inkjet printer in the past.
Lots of trouble, software/drivers were pretty crap.
Inkjets clogged frequently (and wasted lots of paper running the stupid alignment tests)
    Always using up consumables.
    Not buying Epson again.

Had a HP colour laserjet before that and it was great until they decided not to create drivers for win 10.
Currently using a Brother colour laser (mixed feelings atm).

    YMMV.

    • HP is well known to overblow the software. Makes over-engineered products turned garbage!
      Brother has the best app!

    • Exactly what happened to mine.

Even generic inks are at $80/set. Highway robbery.

    • Do u have a link pls. Tnx

      • Ebay/google

  • DO NOT BUY Epson printer, printhead always clogged up, refused to print with generic ink cartridge. Use the clean print head function and it drained a quarter of inks, fixed one colour just to have another colour clogged up, repeat the head cleaner, ends up draining up all my new inks. I even bought ink head cleaning solution, it still wont work. Wifi connection is rubbish, sometimes detect sometimes it wont, need to reset connection everytime. I have a feeling the company is sabotaging the printer when it detects you are not using the genuine inks, they can do this through the apps for mobile printing or their installed program on your pc.

To sums up, DO NOT BUY epson, nothing but trouble. (Mine is WF-2750)

    • Btw I did a bit of research on the different models and turns out Workforce is a totally different level to Workforce Pro. You’ll also notice that the ink for this WF3725 is the 812/812XL which costs a lot even for compatible brands. Seems like reviews for this model is pretty good. I’ve only started using mine for 2 weeks but it’s been really awesome so far

    • I had similar issues with my WF-3530 but I didn't use it that often and it did last me a good 5 years or so… I appreciated decent iOS and Windows support/etc.

I've since moved to HP for a Color Laserjet and actually print alot more now that the printer is fast and the output quality is much better than what I had gotten accustomed to with the Epson multi function inkjet.

  • My 3530 has been brilliant for years. Very Cheap alternative inks worked perfectly too.
Shame if the inks have changed.

    • My heads kept clogging up and eventually stopped being able to be cleaned :( Bought the 3530 off a deal on OzBargain many years ago though and I remember driving to a computer shop in Ultimo to pick it up!

  • Ink ran out after 67 pages :(

  • FYI, just tried this today and the Harvey Norman guy said cannot price match cuz BigW don't have cash back. Hence, I think this deal is no longer valid.
