Suncorp Benefits - Confirmation That You Get Access with Just a Free Savings Account

Now that RACT is ending it's discounted gift cards, I'm looking for another way to get them. Especially Coles ones.
Could anyone confirm that Suncorp gives access to their loyalty program with just a free bank/savings account?
It looks like it does on the savings account page

Everyday discounts
Suncorp customers with a Savings account can sign-up and save on everyday items
Eligibility criteria and limits apply.

T&Cs just say: You can access the loyalty program benefits, subject to being an eligible customer of the Suncorp Network.

Just trying to confirm it before I go through sign up. Seems a bit too good to be true.

That is how I gained access to it, I signed up a year or so ago. I never used the savings account or put any money in it.

    • Thanks. Guess I'll be opening yet another bank account

    • any fees for the free savings account?

      • Double check the PDS in case it has changed, but no fees for me.

Signed up yesterday. Instant access to the gift cards and no fees on the savings account.

  • Is Suncorp benefits better than shopback and cashrewards discounted gift cards?

    • They have some other options. I mostly get 3% off Coles cards. In previous years, it's been enough to cover or double cover the RACT membership fee.

    • Handy for Amazon 3% off as well. I don't think you'll get that at cashback websites.

      • I use Macquarie Bank for 3% off amazon.

        • Can you pay with credit card instead of from the bank account?

I have a bank account but have never activated the card as I don't use for transactions. I have access to the discounts, but only if I pay from the account directly.

@this is us: Don't think so. My only options to pay are the two accounts I have.

I still have access to Suncorp benefits despite not renewing an insurance policy over 12 months ago.

    • Good to know.

  • I just opened this growth saver account on Suncorp and i can't find the area to buy gift cards? (update : i had to get the new app, so it works now)

  • I had one and was working before, but today says
"One simple step to access everyday savings

To start shopping, you need to add an active product into your App or your website account.

Note that it may take up to 48 hours for your access to be updated once you have added your product."

My wife opened the same, added money in, 2 years later doesn't have access.
Suncorp has such shit customer service, I wouldn't use it with real money.

    • I have that issue too, I guess I should have added some money into the account to keep it active, although the account is still open and working. Need to call them, if that fails maybe open a new account.

Did you try and call them already?

      • I had added $ to it, so it's not that.
I think they're just crap. No idea how their own site works, their support said "Are you able to manually add your account to your Suncorp Benefits profile? "

There is no such thing to add of course.

They're just reading some manual with no idea.

        • Oh right I see, thanks for the info.

        • There is an option in the app to add an existing product, you can see on the home screen that the accounts have disappeared/are no longer linked, but when trying to do so it states:

Sorry, we're unable to confirm this account. Please call us on 1300 786 277 and we'll sort this out.

      • whats the deadline after opening account to add money before the account becomes inactive?

        • To clarify, my account isn't inactive, I opened it 3 years ago and it's still open and working despite never using it.

I thought that was the reason that I lost access to gift cards, as there was no activity, but don't actually know for sure. furyou above also mentioned they added money to their account and still don't have access.

          • @hamza23: oh i see, thanks for letting me know

      • I had the same problem a few days ago, turns out the account got closed, I'm guessing for inactivity. Opened a new account and It was working again the next morning.

        • Thanks, I just did the same, opened an Everyday Options account using my existing logins, took no more than a minute. I can link the account in the rewards app successfully and it says it should be confirmed within 48 hours.

FYI @furyou that might be the easiest way to get your access back, just open a new account and wait a day or 2 and access should come back as vodamerc explained above.

    Remember to check here:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards

It's not updated but it helps.

I have access to other egift card providers, but Suncorp usually has the best discount, and they don't charge a credit card fee.
However, they've recently removed the platform from the website, and their app doesn't work for me. I complete the details and the "processing…" (or something like that, I don't remember the word) stays there forever. I have yet to contact them about this issue, but it's happened with two different orders. I gave up and got cash back instead, but I prefer gift cards even when the discount is the same as I don't trust cash back systems.

That happened with me in Suncorp initially, the app would just keep spinning, it would appear you may have also lost access (as we are discussing above). I thought it was an app issue so tried purchasing via website but now it gives the following error:

To start shopping, you need to add an active product into your App or your website account.

Without any option to do so and I have 2 accounts with are both open and working.

      • Thanks for the link. The bookmark I had (the same domain but some additional text after the .com.au) was saying I had to download the app. I didn't notice I was being logged-out every time I opened the page.

It's dumb but I cleaned the cache and was able to log-in and access the "benefits" website, and place an order without any issues.

I think the Android app can't to the OTP authentication for some reason. I sent a message to Suncorp regarding the app, but I will just use the website. Thanks.

        • I tried clearning all cache and still get the same error.

          • @furyou: It's a but annoying.

            Try:
            1. https://online.suncorp.com.au/onesuncorp/#/
            2. Log-in with your details, should be fine.
            3. Click Suncorp Benefits on the left, which will take you to https://benefits.suncorp.com.au/oauth/suncorp?brand=SUNCORP&…

Hopefully, you will still be logged in.

            • @this is us: Yes I got logged in, but can't add tocart

              • @furyou: Send them an email. They replied my email after a few hours.

I still can't complete the order on Android but they asked me to provide a screenshot. The problem "is being investigated".

                • @this is us: I think furyou's problem is the same as mine and they just need to open a new bank account to regain access, as they have this same message when trying to add a gift card:

To start shopping, you need to add an active product into your App or your website account.

But then when trying link your existing account in the app it gives an error.

That seems a separate issue from the app spinning problem which I had before and started using the website instead, until that error message about not having an active product appeared. As vodamerc mentioned earlier https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10982629/redir

@hamza23: I got thru, they said my account was closed for no activity.
Still shows on Internet Banking tho.

Trying to open a new acc, see how that goes.

                    • +1

@furyou: I opened the new account last night, and I have regained my gift card access now 🥳.

When you go to https://online.suncorp.com.au/onesuncorp/#/ in the 'banking' tab you should see that there is now a bank account listed there:

                      Suncorp Bank Accounts
                      SUNCORP
                      EVERYDAY OPTIONS
                      0XXXXXXX
                      $0.00

Previously there were no accounts there, even though they show in online banking section like you say (and could be used). No visual indicator to know they were inactive.

I did get an error message FE001 initially this morning, after the message about waiting 48 hours disappeared:

We need help validating your account.
Please call our App Support team on 1300 786 277 or email [email protected], quoting "Error code FE001

I emailed them and they told me the following:

To resolve this issue, you will need to verify and update your details. Please follow the following link to do so: Verify Your Identity Online or In Store | Suncorp Bank.

After putting my Driver's Licence number in, the ID was verified and I could access the gift cards immediately. So if you get that error FE001, once the initial wait up to 48 hours message disappears, just click that link above and add your ID accordingly online.
