Nothing spectacular with middling performance to other gaming laptops if you're using it out of the box given the heat and throttling but from research it has benefited from BIOS upgrades etc.

May benefit from tweaking the heat profile using the ozbargain guide since there's a guy on there getting 8000+ timespy

Reasonable price for a new laptop given stock levels etc.

Similar value to Legion 5i overall except it has a 17"

    • Amazing Monitor
I got the 1080p version with my Alienware PC and it was trash, this is the one they upgraded me too and have been nothing but happy with it.

There's just been an announcement of refreshed versions of the panel used here, as well as competitor panels coming through, so if you're not in any rush I'd imagine these are going to move into the $600-$700 range later this year.

Additionally, we should start seeing OLED gaming monitors this year, but it's unclear if any will be 240Hz in the first wave.

    • I've been tossing up between this and a G7. This dropped to 878.20 recently on their website, but damn, this is hard to resist now.

      • I believe the overall performance is similar to a S2721DGF just smoother with GSync and all

It just so happens this is a nice panel colour etc. wise so I kept it but I think I would have been happy with a S2721DGF

My other panel is a viewsonic VX2758-2kp and that's a lot less smooth compared to GSync even if capped FPS just under refresh

        • I'm consider this or the AW3821DW given it's $1499 now on ebay with a code. Either would be nice with my R12 rtx 3080 coming early July.

          • @Testeagle: I mean i'd take the IPS over the VA anyday, I currently have the LG 1440p 144Hz IPS panel, my first ever IPS panel and my lord the colour difference is just so worth it (to me anyway)

            • @DMak92: The G7 doesn't fall into the same category of performance as other VA offerings, save for the G9. They represent a huge performance leap.

        • No this definitely and substantially outperforms the S2721DGF, but it does so at around 70% compliance to the refresh rate.

But yeah, as of right now, IPS is the worst performer for QHD 240Hz.

      • G7 absolutely whips this, it's just a question of price.

I'm hearing there's a 2021 refresh for the G7, but that the G7 flat version is actually a 4k144Hz IPS panel.

        • I'm liking the G7 32" and at $934.15 from Samsung (gov discount), it seems like a pretty sweet unit. I'm gonna be running a RTX 3080 and monitor is g-sync compatible rather than g-sync, but looks to preform very well. Rtings has the G7 32" topping the AW2721D.

          • @Testeagle: The G7 27" is $849.15 which seems pretty good.

            • @Testeagle: Bear in mind that G7s reliably produce fairly obtrusive scanlines when fed specific patterns or images. I figured it would surely be fine being the latest batch and firmware, so I bought one recently to find out, and lo and behold it produced the same awful artifacts many have reported so I returned it.

              • +1

@itscyanide: That's rough, I've got a mate experiencing his going black and coming back on and others experiencing flickering.

                • @Testeagle: It's a damn shame because they seem like such good monitors on paper, but Samsung really have dropped the ball on this one.

I'm hoping we'll see similar performance from other VA panels in future without all the issues plaguing the G7s and G9.

    • Thinking about getting 3 of these to replace my samsung g9….

  • I wish they called it max headroom instead of max p

Or just call it MaxDong……much more appealing than that subtly hitting 'P' ;)

    Got it 2 days ago….my review….

So my boy got his G7 7700 17”.

Have been putting it through its paces. First thing was full updates using dells tool including v1.8 bios.

Not sure if there is a new revision of the hardware or if bios and drivers have improved, but the thing is a monster.

Fortnite on Epic settings, vsync on, pretty much locks to 144 with some occasional dips into the lower 100 at worst according to the counter - it’s practically imperceptible however. The performance is sustained for hours on end.

Alt tabbing into Alienware shows Cpu in the 80’s and GPU even lower.

Seeing as these laptops go on sale frequently and many are purchased, there isn’t much new discussion on thermal issues to coincide. Likely Indicating problems are now infrequent.

The fans do blow! But I imagine any powerhouse in such a thin package is destined to do so. Still, not as bad as my Xbox360 of old. Playing with headphones mitigates any such distractions.

The screen is bright and vibrant with good contrast. Surprised how sharp 1080p still looks on a 17”.

Very much impressed with the package.

  • I've been eyeing this for a while and this is pretty good price - I had a quote for a refurb around this few months ago.
Bite the bullet or wait for Dell's 3xxx launch …

  • Delivery is late June?

  • I can't even add it to my cart…."We ran into a problem and couldn't add this item to your cart. Please go back and try adding it again."

Anyone had this issue before? I bought one of these laptops from Dell last year and was trying to buy one for my brother now, but it won't let me.

When I click on "buy another" it says…."The seller isn't accepting bids or offers from you." WTF??? Have I been blocked by Dell or something???
