USB 3.0 Drive offered write speeds of 6.3 MBps and read speeds of 74.1 MBps when connected via USB 3.0

Should probably link your source. The wording appears to be straight from this page.

      https://au.pcmag.com/flash-drives/4478/toshiba-transmemory-u…

Which appears to be a different drive.

I don't know what is really going on with those USB 3 thumb drives, even have a much faster USB 3 interface, the write speed is actually much worse than those of USB 2.0 ones that are more or less 15 years old.

      • I had one from 2006-2007, 8MBps I think.
What's the point of using USB-3 if they could only get 4Mbps write.
Max USB-2 read speed, if I'm not wrong, is 60MBps.

Yep, you were absolutely right, USB 2.0 bandwidth is 480Mb/s=60MB/s. I had quite a few ones that can do ~30MB/s w, ~40MB/s r.
Then I got a couple of 128GB HP x702w late 2014, which can do ~80MB/s w, 100MB/s r. They were not the best at that time for sure.
I was expecting thumb drives to get bigger and faster as they did before. It turned out I was only right about one thing: they do get bigger and bigger, but they also get much much slow in the mean time. All the USB 3 drivers I got in the last a couple of years IMO are all craps. The best were Samsung Bar plus, but still they can only do ~30MB/s w, still worse than USB 2.0 ones I had.

A couple of performance test results towards the end of a previous deal for this drive.

Hmmmm dial up modem speed on this stick. I'll pass even @ 6 Bux

Note: These are 'wide-bodied' and crowd available space if your PC/device has multiple side-by-side USB ports. Best used where there is provision for a single USB drive like a TV or a DVD/BD player etc. Otherwise drive performance is okay. Of course there are better and faster choices everywhere. I bought a couple of these previously when they were around $19.00 and just use them for posting files off to people and don't expect them to be returned.

At $6.00, this possibly accounts for the massive mark-down in price for unsold or orphaned stock.

The speed is an issue but not a serious problem for small capacity stick like 16/32GB.
@$4 or @$6 stick is really good for passing some files to the others, like family photos, while having no bother on the internet connection / data consumption.

Of course, easiest way is over the cloud platform.
But usb stick are more friendly to the elderly… XD

Thanks OP, bought some to spare for my parents.

Well here are the results of my testing today.
    Via USB 3.0 port

    Toshiba USB 3.0 SA03

Warning: Only 30175 of 30176 MByte tested.
    Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
    Writing speed: 23.2 MByte/s
    Reading speed: 24.9 MByte/s
    H2testw v1.4

Maintained the same speed throughout. Probably didn't slow down due to overheating given how cold it is right now.

Someone bought the item and refunded it. They cut it open carefully, so I didn't notice. Not sure if I should refund it as well. Kind of slow.

  • I ordered two of the 16gb flash drives yesterday for C&C, and the order was just cancelled, and payment refunded.
