Has Anyone Found an Affordable USB-C Dock That Works at 4K 60hz over HDMI for The MacBook Air M1?

Been searching far and find but finding it very hard to find a hub that's gonna do 4K 60HZ, alongside reports it works with the M1 Air. Here are the two I've got on my shortlist. Anyone with experience?

Gigabit Ethernet a bonus, but not a must (a lot of them just have 100/10). Unless it has a Thunderbolt 3 passthrough, I need it to only take up one port, too, to save one free for my TB3 UAD Apollo.

Got the direct link? Think that might be a page from your Order History. Cheers!

      • I just realise you needed a dock but this is just for the HDMI connection to the monitor.

Sorry but Apple and affordability don't go together…. You pay a premium for being in a locked down closed proprietary ecosystem, and what do you get for paying a premium price? you get stuck in a locked down closed proprietary expensive ecosystem

      OK Google.

    • I think it depends whether you want to spend less. Or slightly more to buy something that may last longer./ similar spec.
I have a surface pro from work, it works fine but I don’t like it. It Always had an issue when heated up or disconnect/ reconnect. I mainly use my Older iPhone 8 and iPad for my personal use.
When I Had to fork out thr school laptops (BYOD) for my kids, I have decided to buy MacBook Pro and MacBook Air due to their reliability (people can have different opinions).

    • What an extraordinarily unhelpful comment. Also, found a hub that worked just fine for $25, sooooooooo

      • I'm sorry you find it unhelpful, but like it or not it is a fact. Generic cables and accessories lack a MFI chip that communications with the device to ensure only "genuine Apple certified" products are being used and not some cheapy generic that Apple isn't making money of. If you've bought into the Apple ecosystem it's best to get genuine Apple certified accessories to ensure that a device update doesn't prevent you from using the accessory in the future thus turning it into a paper weight.

As an update and reference for anyone that sees this in the future, this ended up working great at 4K 60HZ :)

    https://www.amazon.com.au/MacBook-Adapter-Docking-Ethernet-C…

EDIT: The seller has changed this listing to one that only includes the 7-in-1 hub, which is not 4K 60HZ. The one I am referring to is the 6-in-1 hub with 100mbps Ethernet

    • I think I can recognise your review in the Amazon comments! I'm surprised that it's 4K@60Hz given the specs listed say 4K@30Hz.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention - they definitely just completely changed that URL to only have that 7-in-1 hub, haha. Previously it was a selection of different hubs, one of which was the 4K 60HZ compatible ones. I’ll just chase up the link if I can find it

It's the same as this one: https://www.amazon.com.au/Adapter-Multi%E2%80%91Functional-E…

        Also shown here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/627770

I ended up settling on this Plugable 7-in-1 hub (although currently unavailable) due to it having gigabit ethernet and 4K60: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08NXV94QM/ref=ppx_yo_d…

        • Cheers mate. I think I might go for the cheap one which you linked because it'll go in the bedroom where there's no ethernet port anyway. I might get a Plugable one for my main desk which does have ethernet since the UGreen one works great 99% of the time except when I remove the laptop and leave power to the USB C hub… because it then crashes my network switch/hub/etc.

ps. the plugable one you linked also says 4K@30Hz?

@jace88: Nice one brother, sounds like a plan. That Plugable listing has conflicting info, but I can confirm I’m using it at 4K60

@jace88: That’s the one, just the version with the SD card! If happy with 100mbps Ethernet, this works well at 4K60

            • @Doy: Works really well. Using it on my 3840x1080 at 120Hz over HDMI! Everything feels so smooth now!

(but alas I am now on 100Mbps internet… maybe I'll just go back to wifi)

@jace88: Nice, that sounds great! Which device is that with?

EDIT: Disregard, I see you said M1 Pro. Good to know it does 120hz, I wonder what resolution it starts only giving 60hz max.

                • @Doy: Yep, worked with the high res/refresh rate and charging with a Lenovo X1 and a Dell Latitude laptop too.

  • I bought the A2119 version fo the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter which worked well with my M1 Macbook Pro for power, high refresh rate, USB… but it doesn't seem to work with charging non Apple laptops even when using various 60w+ chargers (both Apple and others).
