Been on the market for one of these button pushers and saw this while browsing Facebook today.

I grabbed one for the coffee machine. Might need to sign up via pop up banner before checking out to get the offer.

Normal price is US$29 + Shipping and selling locally for AU$49.99 + 9.99 shipping, so this isn't a bad price but would be nice if they had a deal for the hub as well for voice assistant integration.

Yeah nah.. $10.99 US with shipping for one and then it requires a hub for at least $39 US more to use it in a smart home to be of any real use, otherwise its just a bluetooth switch controlled by an app.

Can grab a 4 pack of smart plugs from Kogan for $40 AU and still have money left over for smart globes and have everything intergrated to do the same and more with full control.

This is not the same as a smart plug. I can think of lots of uses for appliances that don't start when the power is turned on, ghetto security light switches etc

I never said it was the same as a smart plug, but for the average person without the specific need, it's pretty pointless. For those that do need it for something in particular, they need to know that they will also need to buy the switch bot hub too unless they plan on using their device/switch via bluetooth on their phone.

I've got quite a few smart plugs around the house but smart plugs simply wont work in my case. I need the actual button on my machine to be pushed as it's an electronic button. The switchbot also allows for timer/schedule so I can have it turn my coffee machine on every morning at a set time. First world problems, really.

All smart plugs have timers and schedules. If you happen to have a very old appliance that needs a switch flicked after it's been powered on, then it can be useful assuming you don't mind forking out so much to get a hub too. It might be cheaper to replace the appliance. Up to each person really, but these have a very limited and very specific use and it's generally for old gear.

Yes as mentioned, I do have a few smart plugs being used around the house and some with schedules as well.

This is a different product for different application. I don't plan on replacing my perfectly fine coffee machine just so I can use a smart plug on it. lol.

And yes it would be great to have a hub, but I don't need one in my case. Not yet anyway. I'll wait for it to go on sale and I might pull the trigger.

  • Great deal bought to try. But then realised you need a hub for proper automation

Haha FB targeted me with same ad, maybe they know we are all Ozbargainers with a switching fetish

  • Thanks I'll see whether I can pick up one for my Gaggia Classic.

  • Do you still need to add a hub as well?

    • Depends on your use case. If you absolutely need voice control and remote activation of the switch, then yes.

If you can get by without voice integration and just using the schedule/timer/bluetooth on the app, you should be fine without the hub. You might even get away with just a smart wifi plug for most application.

What are you planning on using this on?

      • I would like to know if it can be directly controlled via homeassistant without the hub.

        • I believe it does support home assistant. But you might want to check yourself as I don't use it personally.

I’ve got one with no hub and I’ve got it connected to home assistant. Works pretty well though there are few times when the signal doesn’t seem to make it to the switch bot. Is a bit of a lag from sending the command to having the button pressed. Maybe an issue with Bluetooth. Fairly reliable overall though. I use it for my garage door.

          • @DoaAn: For garage doors I would recommend Meross Garage Door Opener - look it up on previous deals, I think I paid around 70 bucks. Very handy, in fact I have a tradie coming in tomorrow to work in the garage and I will open up the garage for him from the office and he can close the door on his way out.

  • How long did it take for you to get a code after signing up?

    • After signing up I went straight to check out and the code was automatically applied. YMMV

      • Thanks I figured it out, the fullscreen banner wasn't popping up on my desktop browser and I was subscribing using their subscribe field.
It ended up working when I used my phone.
