180

These games are $29 when trading in two eligible games, hopefully we can get an updated list of eligible games, games with trade value over $10 are eligible

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond
Pokemon Shining Pearl
Pokemon Legends: Arceus

And the Dual pack is $99 when trading 2 games
Dual Pack
Should work out fairly similar to getting them separately when you factor in trading 2 less games

Could potentially pick up 2 Switch Games from JB Hi-Fi for $30 and use them towards the trade-in (Assuming they are eligible for trade-in).

    • Wish they'd give us an easy way to know what's eligible and what's not; I brought in a stack of PS4 games and none were eligible for the preorder :(

      • This. I wouldn't mind trading in some games after I finish them but I'm not going to take them in only to be told they will give me $2.

    • Tropico 6 for Switch had a $22 value.

Tried a couple of other games (not on the JB 2 for $30 list). They were 25-30% of what they sell them for, so if any others on the JB list sell for $40+ preowned, they are worth a shot.

  • Was hoping that they do Monster Hunter Stories

The series is a complete train wreck atm.

Shield and Sword were hot garbage.

The Let’s Go series was a complete dumbing down of the series.

Now finally a “real” Pokémon game, but Gamefreak palm the development off and end product looks less impressive than the jump seen with the Gen 3 remakes.

Sure, everything is still selling. For now.

    • 100%! They had so much potential to make great core series games on the switch. So disappointed with what they’ve ended up with. (don’t get me started on the DLC’s)

    • The Pokemon Legends looks promising though if they actually follow through with what has been promised.

SwSh weren't that bad. Garbage is a bit harsh, they're just… okay. I just don't get how they can make the jump they did from Gen 3 to the remakes and then do… this. I like the art style of the original Gen IV better… just give us a port at this point.

Let's go was fine for what it was, no replayability though, I've replayed leaf green a dozen times.

Sword and shield are just average games I agree

Jury is out on these remakes but I am struggling to see why I pick them over platinum, altho to be fair they are cheaper than buying platinum would be for a newcomer

Legends is promising but the fact that it's coming out so soon after bdsp makes me think it's really short or not polished, early trailers weren't great

      • BDSP are made by the secondary team, Legends by the main team, who have conveniently been moved right next door to the BotW team.

Still don't think it's been long enough though.

        • Yeah main team but its only been about 14 months since the last DLC by the time of release, I guess it depends on how long that DLC took to make, could claim its 26 months or just over 2 years since release of SW/SH if the DLC wasn't a huge time consumption.

I consider the Pokemon series as reiterations of the same formula; incredibly similar from one generation to another. I think that whichever generation or block of generations was your entry-point, you have an affection to those, and later generations at best might just stoke that nostalgia. Just like my generation holds affection for Red/Blue and my nephews do for Sun/Moon.

For those reasons I think the mainline series will always do well in sales because they offer that nostalgia for the established gamer and a reskinned first experience for the new gamer.

Though it looks like this generation is diverging, maybe differentiating. With GameFreak relinquishing development of the mainline series for a new open-world game, Nintendo looks like they're trying to expand the IP. That looks risky if the mainline series degrades in quality and/or the open-world game is a poor mix with the Pokemon series or poorly developed by GameFreak. But potentially exciting to start a new series of Pokemon games, and you'd probably bet on Nintendo managing this well to assure quality.

      • I think that whichever generation or block of generations was your entry-point

Yellow was my first game. But I still like Black and loved Y.

I forgot to shit on Moon/Sun in my rant. Those were the real beginning of the end.

    • Dealing with a busted switch at the moment and of course the save game IS NOT PART OF THE CLOUD BACKUP… why in 2021 GameFreak cant figure out a secure way to handle backups without the claimed issues is anyone's guess. Laziness is top of mind.

Banning anymore pokemon games from the house for now

      • I hate that it no longer saves to carts, The joy of going back and playing my Leafgreen from childhood won't happen unless I keep the same Switch console now with Sword.

        So dumb

    • I'm almost finished sword and I thought it was pretty good, granted it was mostly nostalgia because the last pokemon game I played was on gameboy color though…

  • Any idea when these are going up on amazon? Was hoping to get the dual pack on there.

    • The individual BD/SP are up for preorder on Amazon, but not Arceus or Dual pack yet.

      • +1

Actually the dual pack is up for preorder too :)
Is it worth it though, apart from some exclusive Pokemon being available in each game? (but then again that was the case for all the previous games)

        • Thanks, couldn't find it this morning.

  • I have been anticipating the remake of the 4th generation of Pokémon for so long and I don't know if I want to play it anymore

    • Yeah its very lackluster thats for sure, If I can search marketplace and find some $5 games that trade for the deal then it makes it $39 which is probably what its actually worth to me.

Legends Arceus for that price looks a steal.

Hard part is figuring out which games to target, I remember it used to be preowned games priced at atleast $28 but feel the list has changed over the past few months.

      • I'm going in store to see what is a valid trade in. I hope others can share what they find.

No idea why I'm the only one able to get this…but happy to help out 😁

List is correct as of 29/05/2021 and can change tomorrow or weeks from now but as of today this list will work

    • Wow! Thanks so much. I simply haven't had the time to visit a store yet. Are others not able to get their hands on that list? It does say on the EB website you can go in store for a list.

So it's not just Switch games you can trade for the discount? Interesting.

      • Most stores won't print a list because of "resource" costs but my local is usually happy to help.

    • Legend

    • Dam now that lockdown ended I went in and the list has changed. Every game I was taking them to trade in is now basically worthless.

I was hoping to get rid of the game I bought from them that gives me a headache and the game I bought that I had high hopes for… until I played it and remembered how much I hate platformers.

      • May be wait for a bit and try again? EB is having some sales at the moment so prices could affect the trade in.

        • I was wondering if that would affect the price. Figured I've got plenty of time so I'd wait it out.

          • @Hintswen: YMMV, I had the same issue before and luckily the trade in price went back to normal after the sales.

      • Rang around yesterday confirming my games were eligible for the trade deal, went in today and got told they no longer are. Except for one game I had a few copies of, but the salesperson was borderline accusing me of doing something shady by bringing the same games in and citing some nonexistent policy that they couldn't take more than 1. Err, right.

        • I have 6 copies of 1 of the games I want to trade in. All unopened.

        • Usually they are ok with 2 copies of the same game. I haven't tried with more than 2 copies.

    • So does that mean I can trade in a mix of PS4/xbox and switch games for any upcoming new trade in games?

  • So does that mean I can trade in a mix of PS4/xbox and switch games for any upcoming new trade in games?

    • Only ones that use the promo, like Zelda, Mario golf, Pokemon etc

    • Yes, for any Trade in deals (Trade 2 games and pay $XX), you can trade it a mix of platform games that has trade in values at least $10 or above. Doesn't have to be Nintendo switch games. I traded 2 copies of PS4 games (same title) for the Pokémon Diamond. I also trade a copy of XBOX and PS4 games for Mario golf.
