  • This stuff doesn't work. Save your fiver.

I question whether anyone has ever bought one of these considering I have never seen one out in the wild, always see them in clearance aisles and not one person has casually mentioned they own one to me.

I have yet to see anyone admit they use one of these either when a deal is posted.

    • I myself purchased it and very happy with the results. Phone came out warm and even the finger print marks gone. Although you need to use it twice- screen side and then backside since lamps are ‘topish’.
Would never purchase for $20 but for $5 what it dies is what I liked.
Additionally this has a usb A output as well which might be USB charging.

      • 500mA USB-A output is as pointless as the rest of this product!

  • Can’t you just stick it in the sun for a minute?

      https://slate.com/technology/2013/08/sunlight-is-the-best-di…

"If you’re trying to disinfect anything other than water, however, sunlight isn’t the wisest option, as it’s is most effective against water-borne pathogens. For example, if you try to disinfect your cellphone (studies have shown it’s probably dirtier than your toilet seat), sticking it in the sun for an afternoon won’t do the trick, because there isn’t enough ultraviolet light in the sun’s rays (at least within the Earth’s atmosphere; the ozone layer blocks the majority of powerful UV radiation). Rather than relying on the sun’s relatively feeble rays, some hospitals have begun using UV-emitting machines to disinfect rooms."

They use UV/C (of the A/B/C's to disinfect to my knowledge), which this kmart gizmo uses.

"isn't enough ultraviolet light in the sun’s rays"
Yeah tell that to your skin after even 2 hours in the sun on a sunny day!

        • +1

It is UV-A and a bit of UV-B that causes the tan, and UV-B that causes the burn. UV-C, which is germicidal, is filtered by the ozone layer.

I clean mine in the microwave just to be sure there's no more 5G

This seems better to me. $10 and you have wireless charger as well.
You might want to add this to the post OP.

    • It looks useful in the photo-shop, but you have to put your phone inside the box to charge, which defeats the purpose of wireless charging.

      • Fair enough. But the phone would get charged while getting sterilised. So maybe useful to some.

      • +2

It's actually even more hilarious than that…. but it makes sense due to the utility aspect.

It's just a steriliser with a wireless charger built into the TOP of the device, it won't charge while being inside.

        • Oh! Well that sounds better.

        • Oops. That’s odd 😂

    • Good find but it’s funny product concept. But definitely more value for your dollar since you get a 10w charger and also uv steriliser.

  • Why would you need to sterilise your phone…?

    • +1

Because studies have shown they are covered in more 'stuff' than a public toilet.

      • +2

So is your skin, but we don't sterilise it unless performing surgery.

        • +1

It really depends on which microbes you are talking about, because some are horribly nasty, some are harmless and some a little in-between.

  • +1

Save $5 and just put your phone into the dyson hand dryer with UV light next time youre at the shopping centre toilets

    • +1

These need several minutes to sanitise whatever it is you put inside. They are only tiny wattage UVC lamps.

  • +1

    +1 vote because it's Kmart…

  • +1

On closer inspection, I realise this device is probably only cleaning 50% of your device at best (especially a phone) as the UVC lamps only emit from either SIDE inside, they will not be capable of thorough disinfection of a phone unless you do this process 2 times, with the phone flipped over each time. So about 10 minutes to disinfect your phone as well as it could possibly achieve.

    • +1

      Correct analysis!
You have to do it twice, screen side and then the backside. The results are very good with even the oily fingermarks gone.

      • +1

KFC wet wipe will do it much faster

  • +3

Probably could be used for for sanitizing money but I don't have any left after buying all stuff I don't need, so will give it a pass.

No one going to mention it apparently also has an aromatherapy mode? Thats what that "incense" button is for. Kind of cool

    • Kind of cool Totally Pointless!
You put a drop of aromatherapy oil in the box under the phone, close the lid & press the 3 minute timer button…
There is no fan or any other function to make this work. It's just placing phone in a box with a nice smell.
Tried it on old phone - oil went on phone.

A pointless product. Returning to Kmart.

  • Question, can this unit be used with an iPhone with its case on and a screen protector (considering those are the parts getting dirty for me)?

    • +1

If the case is plastic suspect it won't be "UV safe"?

Same applies to any plastic component on the surface of the phone, whether iPhone or Android phone.

  • +1

Got one yesterday. It talks to you. Kids love it.

    • +1

That was the only surprising feature of this pointless product.
