7 Days Free VPN Service from Oeck

180

Hi Oz Bargain,

We spent the last two years building a VPN with features we wanted to exist. Due to the lockdown we are giving everyone 7 days free access to our service. We work differently to other VPNs on the market, so please read our manual and test out the service during lockdown.

Some of our unique features include;

Streaming Automation - Connect to the VPN region nearest to your location and still access content from overseas streaming services. We take away the need for you to jump around VPN regions. You can also set regions for specific streaming services. For example you can set your Netflix region independently - similar to how a smartDNS service works. This means no more searching for the "right" server to connect to. Just connect to the VPN and we take care of the rest.

Device Profiles - You can have up to 100. Each profile allows you to have unique settings for when you log in. For example, you can have one for your computer, another for your iPad, another for your partner, another for your child, etc.

Advanced Port Forwarding - You no longer need to keep track of IP addresses or configure your software to work with the VPN ports you are given. Just tell us which port to forward to and which device profile and it's done.

For example, if you set up a web server on your computer and enable port forwarding, regardless of which VPN server you ever connect to ( any server, any region ), to access your web server you would go to username-mydevice.oeck.me:portNumber - It stays the same :)

Also great for torrenting.

Ad, Malware, Social Network and Adult blocker - You can pick and choose which ( if any ) of the blockers you want enabled for each device profile. This allows you to turn on Adult blocking for children's devices but keep yours open. It is also very extensive and does a good job of blocking most ad, tracker and malware domains.

Custom filter - You can take the blockers even further by adding your own domain block-list on a per-device level. This gives you complete control over each and every device. This is very powerful and is easily built on.

Custom DNS - You can set your DNS on a per-device level. You can choose for the VPN to give you complete control to your DNS, or set your DNS and still allow the VPN to take control over certain domains in order for the channels and blocking to still work. This means you can even use your own DNS if you wanted to.

Automated server selection - When a user connects to a region they will always connect to a server with the most resources available. This completely removes the need to server-surf on the users end. They just connect to a region and they will be sure to jump on the server within that region that has the most resources available at that point in time.

All of our VPN servers run without ANY hard drives at all. We have gone to great lengths to make sure our users get the best service and the most secure one. As a VPN service - forgetting the bells and whistles - it is fast and secure with fantastic privacy.

Great VPN service, low latency to the server from Australia if you use the AU server. Excellent bandwidth.

Have used Netflix regions that are blocked using Express VPN.

(this is not a paid comment, and I'm not affiliated with them, just happy user)

    • Hi ob1wan,

Thank you for your nice reply! We are really happy to hear that you're enjoying our service :)

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

  • Kill switches? Do you keep logs? Where are your servers?

    • +8

      Peter Dutton approves these questions.

        Hi Putin,

Send me a PM on here with your Oeck username. Your comment just scored you a month of service on the house.

        Regards,
        Peter @ Oeck.

      Hi dangerdanger,

Our apps come with a killswitch. We also provide proxies which can be used as kill switches for users who prefer to use their own OpenVPN clients. You can read about that at https://www.oeck.com/manual/guides/browser-based-kill-switch…

We don't keep logs. We went so far as to even own our own routers in order to ensure customer privacy. You can read all about that at in our privacy policy located at https://www.oeck.com/privacy-policy/

We currently have VPN exit nodes located in Melbourne, Sydney, Seattle, London and Amsterdam. Our proxy network has over 30 locations. This is automated. You can read more about this at https://www.oeck.com/features/ and https://www.oeck.com/manual/learn/channels/

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

      • Is not possible not to log the ip, which is stated on your Privacy. If you maintain a connection you keep those ip in some table. How you mitigate abuse? You must monitor and log something? How your active connections are being stored, HDD or RAM Redis table?

        • Hi MagicOZ,

We don't keep a historical log of the IP addresses or connect/disconnect timestamps. Every time a user disconnects from the VPN, the IP is also removed from the system automatically. This is done via RAM.

          Regards,
          Peter @ Oeck.

  • Does the VPN have a feature in which you can make certain (windows) applications utilize the VPN while others do not? Eg: Want discord to use the VPN, but not chrome etc

If not, have you thought about implementing it? This is the main feature I want (along with the first feature you mentioned in this thread which seems great)

    Thank you!

    • Hi Skrizzy,

We have decided not to implement this feature at this time. The reason for this is because the feature is 100% app dependant. We try to have the apps do the bare minimum in terms of features. Our view is that the work should be done on the back-end so that users have the most flexibility when it comes to their home set up. This is why you can use Oeck through your router as an example, and still get all of the features we offer.

Having said that, it is also a feature we have not dismissed. It will most likely get added in, but it will not be in the near future. Having said that, for most cases you should not need to split tunnel.

We have a good network and our upstream provider peers with major gaming networks and streaming services. You should be getting a low ping when connected to an Australian server. Our automated streaming means you can be connected to, for example, Melbourne and still get overseas content on most major streaming services. For example, you can set your Netflix to USA and your VPN to Melbourne.

Is there a specific reason you want to split tunnel?

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

      • That makes sense, thank you for clarifying that.

In terms of reasoning, I've been using VPNs for years and years (even when server's weren't that great) and always kept the mentality that they slow down my network. Although, it's good to see that it's actually changed.

I have another question, but don't want to clutter up your thread, so will PM you :)

        • Give us a go and see if it changes your mind. We have a thread on Whirlpool ( https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9p8qxvl9 ) and if you have a read through it you will see that many users just keep Oeck on 24/7 via their routers.

We put as much effort into making our VPN behave in a way where the user 'doesn't even know it's there' as possible. The only way you will be able to see if it is good for you or not is to test it :)

          Regards,
          Peter @ Oeck.

  • Are these residential IPs or Datacentres?

    • +1

      Hi hex7272,

Our VPN nodes are datacentre IP addresses. The proxy network is made up of residential IP addresses.

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

  • Do you guys support Paramount+? (Via an Android device)

    • Hi HowdyHo,

Funny you should mention that. One of our customers asked us to support it and we began working on it today. Unfortunately our USA CC had $0 in it so we are waiting for some funds to clear. Once we can purchase the subscription, it shouldn't take too long. We will then support it ( most likely ).

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

      • Any updates regarding this?

        • Hi HowdyHo,

We have unblocked it. We got a ticket today saying it is failing on an Android device, but we are looking into it. We should have it running in a few hours I believe.

          Regards,
          Peter @ Oeck.

  • Your service is expensive than some others out there but I understand quality and service but have you considered something like pay for the time we use it?

Like the use case I don’t use it full time as I find VPNs not the fastest always so I only switch it one when I need it.

    • Hi ozyhsk,

We do have a plan in the users dashboard that allows the user to purchase in 7 day blocks for $3.94 USD. This is perfect for someone who will only use it a few times a month for short durations. As far as price goes, it is priced accordingly in regards to what the user gets for their money, and the cost of the infrastructure behind it. When compared to other VPN services, aside from us being unique, we are also ( in my opinion ) better value for money due to the services we provide.

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

      • Thanks

      • Also a quick one you bring an Aussie company why are the prices in USD?

Thanks I checked just before payment, the transaction fees and conversion rates are a mess

        • That is due to the VPN not being incorporated in Australia as we have data retention laws here. Pretty much all other VPN services also charge in USD as well. The transactions fees and conversion rates should not be a mess… We take payments via Stripe and Paypal in USD. The payment will be made in USD.

          Regards,
          Peter @ Oeck.

          • @OECK: Mess in the sense not with you but USD -> AUD and PayPal low conversion rates

Is it 7 days free trial as stated in the posting? I cant find the 7 days free trial, only 3 days free trial on the website.

    • Hi tktay,

We have switched the trial to 7 days for the duration of this deal. If you sign up you will get 7 days.

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

  • I've been testing the VPN all day.

Got the .apk installed on my smart TV and have US Netflix & Hulu running whilst still being able to use Stan, Kayo etc as normal (and without disconnecting and reconnecting to another region). Very nice.

Compared to other VPN's, I'm extremely impressed. The speed difference between connected and not is negligible, the streaming automation feature is amazing, and it works on Netflix like a charm.

I'll definitely be purchasing this and using it as my go-to vpn.

    • Hi Skrizzy,

That's great to hear :) Thanks for the feedback :)

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

  • Just want to say, I have been using Oeck for a while and these guys are great. Nothing is too much and they are genuinely trying to make a go. Try them, it's free for 7 days and if you are in Victoria, might as well. If you are not, and in one of those states that don't like us, well you can support them and have an exceptional experience.

    • Hi black mau,

Thanks very much for the kind feedback! We are really happy to hear that you like the service :)

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

  • Hi Op,

    Any Wireguard support?

    • +1

      Hi NotAMoodle,

We have started working on Wireguard but at the moment we are holding off a little as it recently got pulled from pfSense. We will resume working on it once the issues with Wireguard have been resolved. There is no ETA at the moment as it works very differently to OpenVPN and the system we need to build in order to run it in a neat way is a fairly large undertaking.

Is there any reason you wish to use Wireguard rather than OpenVPN?

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

      • Pretty much because I used the GL-MT300N-V2 which has piss poor OpenVPN performance as it's just not a big enough beast. Using the minimal code of Wireguard gives full performance.

        • +1

Yeah, that makes sense. Sorry about the bad news. We will announce when we support Wireguard. We may be more suitable to your needs at that time.

          Regards,
          Peter @ Oeck.

  • Trying this out right now.
Some feedback on the android app:
    1. Attempting to access the "Device Settings" crashes the app.
    2. The power (connect) button does not accurately reflect the status of the connection most times, I had to rely on the notification bar.

    • Hi Rorschach,

Thanks for the feedback. The "Device Settings" is a bug in the app - we will be getting rid of it as it really is not intuitive at this point, nor functional for that matter.

I am not sure what you mean about the connect button. If you can elaborate on this we can add it to our bug list.

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

      • Peter,
Just meant the main connect button on the app. It didn't accurately reflect the status yesterday, but seems to be working OK today.

        • Hi Rorschach,

Thanks for letting me know. Not sure what could have caused it. If it happens again please open a support ticket.

          Regards,
          Peter @ Oeck.

          • @OECK: Will do.
More feedback - can you add more functionality to the notification bar?
            1. Selecting it should take you to the app
            2. A connect/disconnect button in the notification itself.

            • @Rorschach: Hi Rorschach,

Thanks for the feedback. We will add this to the to-do list :)

              Regards,
              Peter @ Oeck.

  • I've tried many methods to get Prime USA working in AU with no consistent success, is this something you guys can do automagically?

    • Hi neddism,

At the moment I believe you can access it directly via the Seattle region. However, we have one more task to complete before we can ( most likely ) automate it to work regardless of the region.

… now, I want to say something. That 'automagically' thing is a god damn genius idea. Can we please use it?

      Regards,
      Peter @ Oeck.

      • Can't edit. Sorry for the typo with your name Nessism!

      • U can certainly use it, it's not my IP, I forgive u for typo.
I've also found Seattle to work, but inconsistently, and not across all catalogue.

        • Hi nessism,

It is a cool word regardless.

When you say it is inconsistent with the streaming, what errors is it throwing?

          Regards,
          Peter @ Oeck.

          • @OECK: To be clear, not on your VPN, across a few Windscribe (windflix is guaranteed to work with US Netflix, and does, no guarantee for Amazon) as latest vpn, surfshark, others I'm not remembering (trials and whatnot).

I found Seattle to work thru trial and error, on various vpn's, but nothing has been consistent.

Just looking for some automagic electrickery.

            • @nessism: Automagic electrickery… I mean now you're just straight up flirting :P

Give us a go and see if it works out for you. Seattle should, in theory, work. We are waiting for one more thing to be fixed on our Android app. After that we should be able to have Amazon be automated. This weekend we may even make Amazon default to USA to see if it works.

              Regards,
              Peter @ Oeck.

  • I mainly use my current VPNs (I have two subscriptions) to access geo-restricted content. Does yours support different regions for the same paid for streaming service? For example, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, I assume work in the US, but what about other countries?

I usually also access content in different regions that aren't available in the US and Australia. Amazon Prime for example, I watch stuff only available in India, Italy, France, Germany etc., but some regions don't work such as Sweden, Switzerland, Ireland to name a few. UK ones are hit and miss too for me with my current VPNs, so what I am asking with yours, if the service is unblocked in the US, can you also access other region libraries too (using Amazon Prime as an example)?

Also, how about other streaming services such as Hulu, HBO max, Peacock, Paramount+ (like another member mentioned) that are US based?

  • Hi Ice009,

Our geounblocking is done automatically, regardless of the VPN region you are connected to for most streaming services.

We have HBO Max, Peacock, Paramount+, Hulu etc. You can find the full list at https://www.oeck.com/pages/channelAutoGroup1/ and https://www.oeck.com/channels/channelGroupA/

If the service is not listed, you can try accessing it manually by connecting to the VPN region you wish to access it from. Anything listed can be accessed by connecting to any VPN region.

    Regards,
    Peter @ Oeck.
