Parking near Opera House Sydney

Hi ozbargainers

I will be taking the wife to the Opera House for a theatre event in the coming weekday. Does anyone know where I can parking close by that doesn’t cost a fortune?

Cheers

parking close by that doesn’t cost a fortune?

Maybe around Wooloomooloo or back/near of the Museum. Nothing “close”.

Better yet, paid parking close by, don’t be a cheapskate when taking your wife out :)

come on mate, you can do better as an ozbargainer

      • I’m thinking of free street parking.

Cheapest carpark in CBD is QVB. You can then easily take a tram, train or walk there.

  • I'm looking at Clocktower Car Park which is $20, much better than $30 at the Opera House.

Wilson Parking pre-booking at the Opera House car park is only $20. How much were the theatre tickets?

      • wow, I didn't know that, I'm glad I've asked.
        Thanks heaps!!

      • Just tried to pre-book for Friday night in 2023 and it was $39.

If you don't mind a little (I think around 15 min) walk you can park at the domain car park which is on the cheaper side. It's a pleasant walk, through the Botanic gardens and passes the art gallery too if you want to extend your day. I've had times I've parked at the Opera house where it's taken me longer to get out than I think it would have to have just parked at the domain and walked.

North Sydney, disguise it as a romantic walk across the bridge to get a great view of the opera house?

Yep, should be able to find free parking too.

Yep, should be able to find free parking too.

You obviously don't know North Sydney very well.

It's about as romantic as walking beside a freeway.

Would be more romantic to get a ferry to Circular Quay and walk through Darling Harbour

      • Ferry to C Quay then walk through Darling Harbour? Which Opera House are you going to?…

Sometimes frugality ruins the atmosphere unless your other half is of the same sentiment. I'd park below the Opera House for the convenience and not spend the struggle either walking from far away, or struggle to find a parking spot prior to the event.

    • Same here. Really convenient if you need to go somewhere else in a hurry. Also good if you can find a parking discount coupon.

  • If the event ends after dark then any walk will NOT be appreciated!

?Walking around the harbour foreshore with all the lights is beautiful.

      • In high heels?

          Wear your evening gum boots?
The Opera house is too fancy for normal gum boots.

  • Have a look on divvy parking
There’s a place on Pitt St, nr Circular Quay that $11 after 6:30pm

  • Get public transport?

  • Bus or ferry to Circular Quay and walk. It isn't far and Darling Harbour is beautiful to walk through. Being in Darling Harbour and maybe getting a few drinks at one of the waterside bars on the way back can really top off your wonderful evening.

  • depends what you are also doing?

if it is just theatre i would just park at the opera house.

dinner or lunch.. i would park somewhere in between.

  • Catch a train.

When I was regularly driving to the Opera House the cheapest was the place up near the Greek Restaurant.

I just catch PT these days. Much easier and cheaper. Less traffic jams too
