    again ridiculous 15"'s 1366 x 768 (((
(sobbing) When it would be good deals for 15-17"'s 1080p?

    • Nice deal. Is it an ultra-bright screen? I hate those shiny mirror screens!

  • Meh average price TBH.. Bought same spec (except 540m, Bluray, TV input ) 1 year ago for 900$.. >.<

  • Again this is another example with only 1366x768 resolution

It seems that I can't find the following specs for less than $1000 (asus or lenovo or toshiba).
    - Screen : 15.6 inch or less
    - Resolution : better than 1366x768 resolution
    - At least 8GB ram
    - Second gen i5 or i7
    - Dedicated video card
    - At least 1 USB 3.0 port

Is the above spec possible for under $1000?
The main problem seems to be 1366x768 resolution

    • add Bluray and it would be spec that I'm looking for.
It looks like manufactures conspiracy - not to produce reasonable spec for reasonable price (((

    • Asus had a 15.6" with 1600x900 that was ~$1000 at JB Hifi before Christmas (was advertised at ~$1200, but it came down to ~$1000 after haggling). Not sure if it's still available…

Anyway, yes, the screen will be the main problem. Not everyone wants higher than 1366x768, so if it's cheaper for them to make it 1366x768, then that's what they'll do for the cheaper models.

      • Yep JB used to have the n55 with one of the lower end GT555m GPU's. That was by far the cheapest all-rounder notebook, even if it did only come with an i5. Don't think they're selling it any more.

    • i agree but the issue here is, with the lower 1366x768 res a lot of games will run fine(low-med details) but once you bump up to 1600x900+ games performance drops and even in low details some/most not-too-old games become unplayable, and everyone wants to play fullscreen, so either the laptop gets a reputation for having 'slow' graphics performance, or they put in a faster gpu, which in turn means a larger battery will also have to be shoe horned in, plus the hotter running gpu needs better cooling so a bigger heatpipe/fan/heatsink needs to go in too, it's a vicious never ending cycle!

  • A good deal but I don't know why they keep putting 5400Rpm HDD with such a high performance processor.

    • Because for most people HDD speed doesn't make a lot of difference, especially for stuff that actually needs a high performance processor.

  • Dear pro ozbargainers, how is this price for a toshiba like this:

    Toshiba Satellite Laptop P770 2nd Gen i7 2.9Ghz 8GB BLU-RAY HDMI
    FREE EXPRESS POST| 750GB|2nd Gen i7| 8GB DDR3| BLU-RAY
    AU $1,030.00

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360417856922?ssPageName=STRK:MEWA…

    • From the looks of it it only has onboard graphics, which means it's not very good value for $1030.

      • Any suggestions what else I can get for about $1000 margin that's better? That one I linked was 17" screen too.
