I Want to Buy Apple iPhone 12 Mini Outright

Hello,
I am looking to buy Apple iPhone 12 Mini 128GB outright. I am currently on a plan with Telstra and I have completed my 24 months (so I am out of contract now).

All I want is a 5G Apple iPhone and small(er) screen. I currently have Apple iPhone SE 2020 which has a 4.7" screen but I will be happy with 5.4" screen (which Apple iPhone 12 Mini has).

Which is the best place to buy? All I know is direct from apple.com.au or with retailers like JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks or Harvey Norman. I am checking here before buying because some people might have better ideas/tricks to get a better deal.
I am also thinking about waiting now since new Apple iPhones will arrive after September 2021.

Thank you.

    me too~

    • It is not showing $200 off anymore with outright option. Thanks anyway.

      • Yes it does, the link in the post is for the normal 12, you have to go to the 12 mini and that still shows $999 with outright option selected.
        Here is the link https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/mobiles-on-a-plan/i…
If you were desperate to get one now Id definetly get this as its a solid price

        • Perfect. Thank you.

@rohitroygre: Also, id recommend you get a higher storage option like 128gb or 256gb because 64gb in 2021 is a joke and will fill up very quick

  • Go through apple if returning within 2 weeks is a possibility. Use cashback.
Go through JB/OW whoever is cheapest depending on discounted e-giftcards.

returning within 2 weeks is a possibility

How easy are they about this? Just walk in store and hand back the phone to them and they'll give you the full refund no questions asked?

      • yep. but would suggest having a reason in case they do ask. Phone still has to be within saleable condition. You can confirm with staff prior to purchase.

    • Thank you.

  • Why would you bother upgrading, just because your contract has run out?

    • My contract has run out more than a year ago. I just want to upgrade to get 5G.

Seems an odd reason, given how little coverage is 5g and that 4g is decent

  • I am also thinking about waiting now since new Apple iPhones will arrive after September 2021.

Would be wise to wait another 3 months.

    • Thank you.

    • Yeah.

Buy now and you'll be back here in 3 months, either:

Upset you got the old model.
      or
Upset you got the old model at a higher price (price may drop with release of new model).

    ok.

Which is the best place to buy? All I know is direct from apple.com.au or with retailers like JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks or Harvey Norman

As you might have noticed, Apple controls the pricing. So most of these places will be within a few dollars of each other.

I am also thinking about waiting now since new Apple iPhones will arrive after September 2021.

    Ok then wait.

Also remember new models will be at the top of the price point, you might be able to get the outgoing 12 mini model at a reduced price if you also wait.

If you have an iPhone SE 2020 then what's the need to upgrade? Is it not good enough for you? Do you always have to have the latest and greatest tech? Wait for the iPhone 13, Im sure you'll survive, Or even wait for the iPhone 14 next year, iPhone SE 2020 is plenty good enough for 90% of users.

Looks like they want 5G. Many people only got the 2020 SE because it was the smallest phone at that point in time (upgrading from the old SE). I’d be keen to upgrade to a iPhone 13 mini later this year, as you’ll get much more screen in an even smaller body.

    • I am not OP but I am in the same boat: waiting for a decent deal on a mini.

I bought SE 2020 last year hoping to get small factor and good picture quality. Got neither:( The thing is larger than original SE and very awkward to use with one hand (cause of constant complaints from my missus). Pictures vary between barely tolerable (bright daylight outdoors) and totally atrocious (indoors or low light). My pixel 3 leaves it for dead in absolutely any conditions. So, I hope mini is going to be better.

      • So who’s in the same boat, you or your wife? I’m pretty happy with the SE outdoor picture quality. Agree that any phone the size of a 2020 SE (or 6/7/8 for that matter) is a pain to use with one hand!

        • It was a present for her.
Now I need to find another one:)

    • Because I want to get 5G.

Can you not survive without 5G for 3 months? It's currently lockdown in VIC, I don't think you'll be needing to use 5G anyway. Just wait for the new iPhone 13 mini, and the 12 mini price will go down. So best to wait and Im sure 5G will be patient and wait for you.

  • Not sure if anyone has noticed, but Officeworks has some configurations a bit cheaper (but not the one you are after)

    Apple 12 mini 64Gb = $1199
    OW 12 mini 64Gb = $1129

    Saving $70.

The iPhone 12 128Gb is $1429 at Apple and $1377 at OW, saving $52.
