Best nbn Ready Modem Router to Buy for 50/20 to 100/40

I am planning to set up an NBN broadband with FlipTV and they are offering around $150 modem router but I want to buy a decent modem router for myself which I can use with various range of speeds later.

Requirements:

  • My usages are predominantly work from home and gaming (CS Go) so would prefer a gaming router in $200 budget.
  • I have 2 bedroom unit so not very large area to cover
  • The current NBN supply to my building is FTTN

Any suggestion or advises would be really appreciated.

What coverage or distance you are after? A 5-bedroom 2-floor house will have different requirements from a one-bed apartment.

Most routers can do gigabit speeds or more, even the bog standard Netcomm NF18ACV that is recommended by ISPs here.

Next consideration is what WiFi protocols does your gear use. Is AC enough? Do you need an AX one? AY is around the corner.

    • I have 2 bedroom unit so not very large area to cover, I could take NF18ACV but want something specific which helps in gaming and better performance down the line.

I am not too sure about AC, AX and AY.

Ignore the gaming router branded advertising. A router without the gaming tag has no problem with gaming.

Your choice of ISP is more important. FlipTV don't have POPs in every state and depending on where you live the connection takes the long way around and you won't get the best ping times. Superloop and Aussie BB have POPs all over Oz.

        Point taken.

Now as far as POPs is concerned, FlipTV has one in Sydney and I live greater Sydney so latency and the ping should be fine.

Now I'm considering something like this as suggested by @follow

little bit dearer to your budget but pretty good with Wifi 6
