Ban JD Sports from OzBargain

Hey All,

Recent deals from JD Sports have all been cancelled. Not the first time and won't be the last. They have a track record cancelling items after selling them… Is it time for OzBargain to ban deals from them, for the greater good of the community?

edit: Wow! Resounding yes vote from members…At what stage do we get formal response form Mods/Scotty lol?

Then the vendor should not offer online shopping if it is going to keep clicking the "Cancel" button willy nilly.

        • Agree to the premise - maybe watch and act for now, and ban if happens again in the future. Or maybe a warning on each post. just a though

What will ACCC do? Nothing as they process the refunds very quickly.

        • +3

Just curious - how many times would they need to do this for you to think it was "rampant"?

TGG Concierge Rewards was banned when they were slow to deliver cards. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/618979#comment-10377274
According to you, mods were wrong in banning them ;)

How about a 3-month ban to learn they can do this sh!t over and over. Perhaps they'll think before listing stuff next time.

Listing stuff on ozbargain or listing stuff on their own website?

would be fine if it was a one off…this is not, seems to be a strategy of some thought. AND yet to see/hear of any other ozbargainer who was able to snag one. If that was the case then fair enough but looking through comments, doesn't seem though!

Glad you said this as I was thinking the exact same.

They get everyone's details and then cancel the orders. They have cancelled two of mine and won't be getting a third.

    • +4

They got your details already so they probably don't care 😛

I successfully received the $20+$6 postage Nikes from these guys, which was posted here around 3 weeks or so ago.

I tried to buy size 12 first and they were all gone, tried for size 9 and was successful.

Arrived approx 1-2 weeks later. Happy with the purchase I understand why people are disappointed, I guess I was lucky. They went to a good home anyway

    • glad that is the case - so seems as though issue is with their physical and online stock sync.

    • Ah good to see someone got the deal then! I was thinking it might be a coy plan to get people's details!

JV felt a little uneasy about this post until he put his glasses on.

    • +3

      Where is JV?
I've not seen any posts for a while?

      • Temporarily in the penalty box.

          No wonder it's been quiet.

        • That's no fun, do you know what he got done for?

          • +1

            @Drakesy: No idea.

          • @Drakesy:

do you know what he got done for?

I suggesting supporting India via supporting Indian call centres to help the economy there as an alternative to donating via other parties who take commissions on donations. This seems to have offended some mod who couldn't be bothered explaining to me how this was against the rules.

            • @jv: Ooof
free speech took a hit that day. Bit rough imho.

If you look at the 19 deals on
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/jd-sports.com.au
    not a single "-" vote.

    Not one!

Sure some out of stocks, but well after deals were posted online so normal.

Most of the angst seems to be elsewhere at:

I don't think the OP has an issue with the Deals, hence the high +ve values. Ozbargain people upvote just because they like the sound of it, not because they'll actually purchase the deal. (No comment is required in order to vote)

It's once the deal is completed that they start cancelling where the issue would be, this combined with Ozbargain requiring someone to comment before they click the -ve button would lead me to think that the scores may be skewed to the +ve, it's a bit like a skewed democracy.

    • +4

Once you upvote you can't neg it.

      • Good point.
        Didn't think of this.
Might be something for the moderators to look at.

        • The idea is, the next time a deal is posted, those with a bad experience in the past will negative vote the deal to warn others before purchasing that their orders may/are likely to be cancelled.

Which will likely happen in this case, users can then decide if they wish to order anyway and hope it goes through or save themselves the hassle and not order at all.

          As per the Guidelines

          Appropriate uses of negative vote

          Issue with retailer (For example:)
Previous purchases were not received or the shipping time exceeded what was expected. Example 1 Example 2
Issues arose which were not rectified in a satisfactory or timely manner.

This is much more important, than negative voting a past deal that has already expired/finished.

Deals with a negative score will also be hidden from the deals feed by default (community moderation).

          • +1

@hamza23: I feel though that it should be opened up on the post affected though given its still current, not wait till the next post. Otherwise you end up with a warped bias

            • @Drakesy: If all orders are cancelled, then the deal is unpublished and moved to the forums anyway and all votes are removed. Likely to happen with all these posts from a quick scan. We'll look at all user comments to determine if anyone had the deal honoured and remove the posts if not.

              • +1

                @hamza23: That's understandable.
But the flaw is that people aren't able to neg if something does go awry and they've already upvoted.
They have to comment that it's out of stock.

Imho the voting system should be consistent with the up/downvoting system in line with the comment system otherwise it's imbalanced and not a true reflection. Similar to how reddit works.

                • @Drakesy: They can revoke their vote at anytime (in the vote tab) if something goes wrong, but yes our voting system is designed to be how a member feels at the time.

+vote to get a deal (we'll call it deal #1) to the front page because based on the price/item it's a good deal/price and the community should see it, then - vote the next deal (we'll call it deal #2) because that last deal (#1) ending up having issues with the retailer/product (warning). These real time votes are most important and give users an idea of what the community think, at the time it is posted or soon after, when deciding if they should purchase it or not.

As I touched on previously, your neg vote on the next JD Sports deal in the future, is a lot more important than a neg vote on an expired JD Sports deal. Your neg vote on a future deal will warn people in real time about issues with retailers and they can decide whether they want to purchase or not, neg voting an old deal that is already expired does not achieve that.

                  • +1

                    @hamza23: Thanks for that
Although i still feel the voting system needs a bit more improvement to better reflect real time ratings

This is the worst website when it comes to deals.

Deals will be placed in there "for sale" section for weeks on end with no stock available. Its like a teaser to tell you "oh well they were on sale but you missed it".

Then when they do have sizes, their inventory doesn't match up with back of house operations.

Ban these deals please. This is the reason why I never post these.

  • +3

I tried to report this to Ozbargain but was I was turned down because they've 'The store has honoured other deals before'.

Seems like they've been extra dodgy this time not honoring other deals and have VERY limited stock, purposefully.

  • +3

Would be nice of them to reply here with some sort of explanation of their shit service… might help sooth the natives.

  • +4

Placed 3 orders, all cancelled. Happened with my gf earlier too so definitely not the first time. We all can understand if this was a once off thing and this can't be mere 'no stock' issue every damn time. JD needs to be taught a lesson.

  • +5

Boot em thugs from here for good.

  • +9

Four separate orders on four separate instances. All refunded.

  • +7

They also have woeful customer service and won't refund items even when required to under Australian Consumer Law. After numerous emails with their customer service team, I had to lodge a dispute with PayPal to get a refund from them. I would never buy anything from them ever again.

    Burn the witch I say.

Feels like they are using OzBargain as a method of spamming and harvesting member's details for other uses.

    • +1

I can't find any JD sports deals posted by a store representative.

    • They didn't post the deals though, the deals were all posted by regular customers like you….except they have shared deals.

Where do you think the initial sale came from .
        Real great thinking .

Ban them … despite getting an email confirmation after ordering/paying thru their website at the recent
"Mens Black Nike React Vision Size 8-14 - $20 + $6 Shipping at JD Sports Online"
they cancelled the order without any explanation, then proceeded to spam me about other "sales".

If you're going to put specials on your website then I expect you to honour legitimate (ie. non-excessive) sales made thru your website.

    • +3

Deliberate bait to get data to spam .

  • +1

    Hear hear.

  • +1

Just go on productreview and leave your reviews there so more people can see it. I agree with banning them from here, but can’t see it happening. Will just have to religiously neg every single future JD deal posted.

  • Report them:
