did you get a case number? they are meant to order the parts in, if they don't have any in stock, how ever long that may take.

I am happy with my M1. Just want to say, you can’t run x86 virtual machines and likely never will. Games will be meh performance. There are bugs here and there but Apple is doing a good job with patch updates.

One thing that pisses me off is the laptop has to get hot to the touch before the fan will kick-in, however, you need to be doing heavy workloads like encoding for an extended period for it to get hot and it’s still cooler than any Intel laptop.

try downloading the Mac fan control app to customise the settings

    • Why do you want the fan on if it doesn’t need to be?

    I want a non M1 Pro :( :( :(

Long lives Apple as long as people are paying it cash loads of money like this.

Just switched to my third apple machine in 14 years, and my older devices are still working and still used occasionally. I've seen my parents spend more on windows machines (from different brands) while having less requirements.

Geez whats going on at harvey norman.
Maybe jobkeeper subsidies are finally paying dividends

  • Bit off topic however, do JB do edu pricing on iPads?
If so, how do I get it?

  • Still can’t figure out if buying MBA or MBP-.-

Get the air unless you need sustained performance for >10 minutes at a time (encoding videos for example). Or you like the Touch Bar for some reason

      • What about longevity wise? I’m just worried with no fans :/.

I’m using 2014 MBP still and it’s holding up alright. Do you think the MBA will be ok for like 5-6 years ?

        • I still have my 2014 MBP and it is still going strong as well. I cannot see myself upgrading for another couple of years yet.

          • @edisonAU: My main reason for upgrading is I’m starting to get into video editing.

@sauce2k: The benchmarks on Geekbench for the M1 Processor look impressive. My Ryzentosh was rated at 1216 last year.

          • @edisonAU: intel macs going to crash in value. with even cheapest m1 mac airs being way faster

        • I’m just worried with no fans :/

iPads and iPhones don't have fans either. Are you worried about those too?

FWIW, the M1 is more of an evolution of the A14/A12X than anything from Intel.

I'd rather get an updated Air than the Pro - e.g. up the RAM to 16GB and storage to 512GB or something with the Air and you'd be around the price of the Pro.

The main benefits of the Pro are slightly longer battery life (20 hrs vs. 18 hrs - will this really make a difference) and a brighter screen (which may make a difference if you work outdoors a lot)

Touch bar is a negative IMO, I've never liked it. Function keys are just better.

          • @p1 ama: new design pros coming out in a few months with ports, sd card reader ect.

          • @p1 ama: Thanks for the reply, however I don’t think you can compare iPhone with a computer. I do different things on a computer vs iPhone. Don’t have an iPad so can’t comment on it but I see where you are coming from

  • Spewing, picked up a 512 8/8/8 MBA for 1671 and couple of days ago and thought I bagged a bargain! 5% price match at officeworks would've brought it to $1580!

For those saying Apple is expensive, not too worry anymore. There are plenty of laptops and mobile phone (Samsung for eg) that have similar price range like Apple now, above $1k.
