Optus: First 3 Months Free - Month-to-Month Data Plans (e.g. 150GB $50 Per Month Free for First 3 Months)

1800

Came across this in the My Optus app under "offers"
3 months Free - No Contract, month to month data sim, $0 first 3 months then reverts back to the standard $50 (based on the 150gb data sim plan)

The offer is in the MyOptus App which will open web browser. from there select data sim and sign up to the plan you want. it would make the most sense to choose the 150g data plan since all the plans are all free.

You can try the link i have listed however have found that it does not always work as it may be encoded to customer reference. I have shared with someone else and they were able to access the page, however if they refreshed that page a message came up saying "to check if eligible for this offer check the MyOptus App" so if using the link don't refresh. (If you have the app you might be better off with the app)

Checked the critical information and terms and conditions, could not find anything about a contract term. Critial summary says
Optus Choice Data SIM Plan – Month-to-month

https://smb.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/All/cis/Cis%20Document…

3 Months Free: New or existing services who purchase or recontract via the My Optus App to 1. a tablet or watch on a device payment plan with an Optus Choice Data SIM Plan or Optus Choice Connected Watch Plan or 2. • So to update/check, so it's ok/possible to have a 2nd or 3rd sim to makes use of this deal, without any issues?
As another person asked, do Optus go thru the same credit check each time or just once?
    Anything else we should know?

I will use this deal to tether my phone via usb, along with Moose for calls.
I have 2 phones, no modem/ router & a WiFi device but it's locked to Telstra atm, assuming this will work OK.
Aiming to use for Amazon Prime watching and torrents, steam games.

yes i would like to know that too if another hard external check check was done a prompt would tell you during new application? i asked via chat they said it depends on account history they may do internal one or an external one too but need to apply via app for offer to find out. maybe Italkdigital check his file via wemoney etc to see if more then 2 entries were done?

      • I'll set up one today if I can.
Then try for a 2nd/same plan tomorrow and see how I go.
Just got to pick up a sim pack or 2 today, instead of waiting for sim packs to be posted.

Optus still have the $2 sim card/starter kit?
What would happen if a $40 pack (for example) is used instead of a $2 pack?

The latter well in-between Prime watching and steam games is what I'm using my 3x simcards I ordered and activated successfully if that helps πŸ‘πŸ˜

more than likely it will be an internal check if your are already on a plan but not 100% sure. maybe someone that has applied for more than 1 sim plan can confirm if they got notification that a new external hard credit check would be done before submitting their additional new plan applications or if it shows up as another entry on your credit file history?

  • Trying to sign up now, I only have a Proof of Age card & Medicare, but since there is no expiry on a PoA card (I don't have a DL) I'm having issues, there is no drop down box for a Medicare card, only Passports.

I'm about to chat with them now.
Anyone else had this issue and how was it fixed?

UPDATE: I have to go instore to complete the order, as the rep couldn't do the free 3 months at their end.

    • Update 2: wasted 45 minutes on the phone with Optus trying to sign up, since I have only got a PoA & Medicare card, was told that their system only shows double data on the large plan without the 1st 3 months free.

I don't know why it's so f**kin hard for them to sort this out, they have no bloody idea what the current promo plans are or even knew about this deal.
Their proof of ID options are to limited, they don't even have Keypass.

After waiting and giving all my info, was told they could only sign up with the double data without the 3 months free.
So instore (3 different reps), 3 chats or phone calls was all useless. So couldn't sign up.

So issue 1) Limited sign up options (no Medicare/Keypass/PoA). 2) Staff have NO idea about this deal. 3) Can't find this this deal in their system.

Hell even Circles approved my old/expired drivers license card along with other ID info over the phone, and was easier to apply for an account with their limited ID options & signed me up on the current promo they had.

I'm the same with ID.Didn't have any problems on chat

        • But how?, I was told no on 3 different chats.
          What did you ask for?
Did you used a different link?

I also gave them the link for the promo from the one OP used.

I even copied all of the chat log.

@OrbDaggerZ: Maybe it's the luck of the draw. I tried about about a fortnight ago a nd was told I would need 100 points ID. however I tried again just through regular optus chat, they didn't seem to know about the 3 months free at first but must have found it. I do have a flex sim with them but that didn't matter the first time I tried. They just asked for my Medicare number after the usual name, dob, address etc.

            • @corky: Thanks for the reply.

I tried chat yet again last night, spoke to someone from service, couldn't help, they transferred me to someone from sales, waited on chat for 50 minutes for anyone from sales to answer, gave up waiting, bloody unless.
So I wont waste my time or money with Optarse anytime soon.

I got better customer service from Kogan & Felix, even from Circles.Life, which I now rather deal with than Optus.
Felix was great (unlimited data), for the 1 month trial I had close to their rated speed, good deal but more than I wanted to spend per month ($35).

              End of rant.

              Thanks OP

@OrbDaggerZ: That's frustrating, I was annoyed the first time I was rejected as I already had a service with them. Didn't make sense to have to prove my id. Circles is very competitive, probably would have gone with them too. At least you have something now. Certainly wouldn't have signed up with optus except for double data and 3 months free. Circles much better deal.

                • @corky: Large data wise & for a good price the 2 best seem to be Felix ($35) or Circles (when on sale) $28-$38
Many people have had bad issues with Circle in the recent past (porting out or Ozb deal), I had no issues porting out from them.
Been with both in the past.

Circles 50GB for $22 might be the way to go. Their 3GB Bill Shock Protection was a great feature, which I used.
Since I missed this deal, might need to join back up either of these, or find something similar.
                  Any other deals I'm missing?

                  Thanks for replying too.

                  • +1

@OrbDaggerZ: Well the upside with the other plans is unlimited calls at least so that's a plus. Can't find any better deals around than those you mentioned

                    • @corky: I'm using Moose as my main number, from their recent & still active deal, 6GB $9.80 or 20GB $16.90 for 12 months.

  • I think I might have messed up with this deal. I signed up through the link but didn't use the app. I used a desktop browser. My order arrived June 21 and has been active since then. They didn't contact me or do a credit check on the phone. I haven't given them my card details yet or tried to contact them. Should I cancel straight away or put my card details in and wait to get charged for the first month and then cancel? It says I have the 75GB plan but have 150GB of data at the moment.

    • I also ordered through the desktop browser. It showed $0 for the first 3 months before I signed up. Why would you think they would charge $50 per month from the start?

Btw. I cannot add the service to My Optus account. I'll have to contact them.

      • I thought maybe that's because the deal states it is through the Optus app. But I think you are right it said 3 months free on desktop. Probably worried for nothing.

        • +1

I linked my services (ordered two of these SIMs) by messaging customer support. Both are joined into one data pool of 300GB. I can see no bills so far, so I don't know whether I'll be charged.

  • Heyas,. anyone have any weird issues with there free 3 months data plans? I've got 3 of them the 3rd is data shared with my mobile plan

The 1st and 2nd are not shared both now are speed capped too 1.5 Mbps because I've used up the allocated 150GB

Though my 1st one is in a Telstra 5G Wifi Pro Modem (signal only 4G) strangely last night it was reaching speeds over 20 Mbps showing on Steam as I was downloading games on my Steam account and even speed testing through my mobile with a wifi connection too modem was showing sperd tests over 85 Mbps, this I think was after 4am in the morning

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue were ones data plan should be capped at 1.5Mbps but it's not

  • I'm enjoying faster speeds
    πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ˜›

Just a heads up as this has now happened twice too me, well I've used up all my allocated data so my Optus data plan has been speed limited to 1.5 Mbps for a few weeks now, but decided to jump onto the Optus app tonight and it's down for servicing (and bit of a hunch) just noticed my data plan again speed limiting is off/removed temporarily, it's running at full speed when it shouldn't be

Anyone else notice this, when Optus does servicing for there App and other services the speed limiting cap is switched off/removed temporarily?

Edit: Ok reported/posted here the first time this has happened to me, why I figured it happens when there App is down, well hope others are enjoying this Optus glitch πŸ‘
