Placie looks like a taxi booking app.

$20 taxi trip as cashback could be useful.

Not for me but good offer.

  • +1

Didn't get the Amazon one on my plat charge

    • +3

Check your reserve card. I got it on that

  • Got Amazon, on primary card not currently linked to my account. And Placie……great offer if I used taxis/ferries etc

    • Same here

    • +1

      Interesting.

I got this on a card that I had added to an Amazon account, as a payment method, but on which I hadn't done any actual spending.

Not on any other of my own cards, or on the supplementary cards of the one above.

I wonder if adding the card to the Amazon account someone triggered the flag to give me the offer on that card.

      • +3

I've been with amazon for years and had my amex linked with amazon for yonks and I got the offer so I don't think it has to do with adding the card to the Amazon account.

      • -1

I have 6 amex linked to my amazon and only 1 got the offer (via email) and that is the card I regularly use to pay.

I think you need to be using the card to be targetted.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Last time I was able to get gift card and cashback with the Amex offer :)

  • +1

Damn, nothing for me though I did get spend $100 get $30 on telco so that's pretty rad. Thanks for making me check lol

    • Yep I've started using this one! So good

    • +1

can you share the details of that offer? which telco is it for?

  • Didn't get the Amazon deal unfortunately

    • Same - I'm assuming Amex is targeting those who don't already spend with that retailer?
I missed out on the Apple Amex offer too

      • +3

I take it back. I just got emailed about the offer. Doesn't show in my mobile app.

        • +3

I got the offer (at last an offer for moi) and I have used amazon a lot so I don't think its for those who don't already spend with retailer.

        • +1

I also got emailed, not on app.

  • +4

    Thanks OP

FYI Amazon offer excludes payments for Amazon Prime Australia membership and all Amazon Australia subscriptions (including, but not limited to, Amazon Music Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited and Audible).

I'm guessing you could buy a gift card and use that to pay for Prime tho?

    • No

  • Got amaz one on platinum reserve and exp

  • +3

Amazon looks to be on primary cards only, no supps.

    • +1

I only got it on 1 supp.

    • Yeah pri only for me

  • Didn't get on primary or supps :(

    • Shame. I got it on primary card. First offer in ages for me.

    • I got mine only 30 min ago.. hang in there.

  • Got the Amazon offer. Have no idea what to buy for around $100..

    • +10

      Gift card.

      • +3

Bought $100 gc but still waiting for the confirmation from amex. I hope this is not excluded under digital purchase.

        • Amex confirmation can take a while, even days, depending on the retailer.

Edit: See post below about GCs.

        • I can confirm the credit has come through. Strangely I never received an email confirmation.

          • @ddhar: Hi mate , how long did U wait for AE cash back for $20 credit ? Thx

            • @Kenji123: I only found out today (3 days post purchase) but it could have been yesterday.

Curiously amex has backdated the credit to the 14th, a day before the actual purchase.

      • I bought gift card but have not received the confirmation email since.

        • Same here. No AMEX confirmation for egiftcard.

      • +3

Rep from Amex chat advised eGift Cards fall under digital purchase category & won't trigger the credit offer.
However, purchase of physical gift cards should be ok.

        • +1

Great. Now I gotta buy something for $200 given I already purchased a $100 gc. šŸ˜…

          • @ddhar: You will still get the credit. Just wait for another 3 more days.

            • @tyvod: Ok. Thanks for letting me know.

        • +4

100% sure that egift card will qualify

        • From past experience GC will get the credit. Also trigerred the notification.
          Not sute this time round.

    • +1

The nice thing is that you don't have to spend it all in one transaction, so you can spread it out among multiple small transactions.

    • amazon kindle

  • Can I actually to use this to buy Amazon gift card?

    • +1

Should be able too. I have bought the gift card but the purchase hasn't been posted to my Amex card yet.

  • Got this on both my DJs Amex and my Elevate Amex (despite using the latter for all my Amazon purchases). Velocity Escape missed out

    • Nice to get it on 2!

  • great ! When the deal was created, had only the Placie offer, but no amazon… Just got an email at 10am with the amazon offer … The Amex card is the best one to get real offers…

  • Oops, our records show that you have already enrolled in this offer. We limit the number of times that a Card Member can enrol in each offer.

Got the targeted email but then this even though I havenā€™t enrolled this time around (no saved offers). Weird.

  • Eligible for purchase from amazon us via amazon au?

    • +1

Yes, the T&C says must be made on amazon.com.au but doesn't specify seller.

    • Yes, as long as payment is made via amazon au.

  • +2

Note: it seems its a link you receive to your mailbox , not an offer to activate in the Amex APP. Check your mails and spam folder

    • Same here - checked the app and nothing but received an email after that.

  • I checked in the morning, no offer on my Amex card. Then I added my Amex as payment method to Amazon, one minute later, an email sent to me offering spend $100 to get $20 back.

I removed Amex payment method hoping to get Amazon offer of get GC on adding CC payment method which never came.

  • +1
    1. Read thread, checked offers, not targeted :(
    2. Bought something on amazon with my amex
    3. 5 minutes later received targeted offer email :)

    Coincidence? Happy days

  • +1

Didn't have the offer on any of my cards when I saw this deal posted but just received an email from AmEx to say that I was eligible on my Discovery Card. Only got it on my main card, which is the card I have linked to Amazon and regularly use for Amazon purchases. Doesn't seem like there's any consistency in who is getting the offer.

    • Same here, didn't see the offer in the morning on app, got the email couple of minutes ago, clicked through link and page loaded saying I wasn't eligible as I had already registered, went back to app it was added to my list of accepted offers. Happy days!

  • +1

Just got the email on my amex qantas ultimate card

  • Installed Placie on my phone and it just launches and crashes right away (iPhone XS, iOS 13.5). Anyone have that issue?

  • +1

Didn't see any in the offer tab but got Amazon on Primary card from email that just came through. (spent many using these cards)

  • No amazon offer, but placie one, which I don't use anyway

  • +1

Will Amazon giftcard track for the $20 credit?

    • -1

I just purchased and used this. It came up as subtracting $20 gift card which is how the credit appeared. It worked just fine for me.

      • +2

What do u mean by "subtracting"? On Amazon? We're supposed to spend $100 and got back $20 on Amex side, right?

        • -1

Sorry by subtracting I mean it was written like this: -$20 gift card, so $20 was subtracted from my total purchase of $105-$20=$85. So I paid $85.

          • @Luckyalways: Your explanation still makes very little sense.
What do you mean ā€œ-$20 gift cardā€?

Are you sure you didnā€™t simply paid $105, get (or will get) $20 statement credit from Amex, meaning you would effectively pay $85?
(Basically what Turd and hanofee said).

            • -3

@zonra: lol this is getting complicated when it was simple for me! No I didn't pay $105 and get a credit later. I immediately paid $85 although my original purchase totaled $105. The $20 off was called a gift card by amazon and it is different to a statement credit. I know the difference :) Anyway, I can't explain it any simpler. It worked easily for me. :) Just try it and before hitting pay button you will see how it appears.

              • +9

@Luckyalways: Looks like you already had a $20 gift card on your Amazon account. Nothing to do with Amex credits. Not sure why you even brought it up which seems to be causing confusion. It also means you won't get the Amex bonus unless you follow 'turd's' advice and spend another $15

      • That's not how AMEX credits work.

Check your pending transactions in your AMEX account, does it say $80 or $100?

"Credit should appear on your billing statement within 5 business days from qualifying spend but may take up to 90 days from the offer end date."

        • -6

The $20 was deducted at the time I went to pay. My order was $105 and I paid $85 with the $20 deducted.

          • @Luckyalways: What does the $20 say in the amazon order invoice?
            Special bonus or something?

            • -2

@Turd: It says gift card $20 which got deducted from the total amount of my order which was $105. You can try it and see it yourself without hitting pay which may make it easier to understand. :) good luck with it.

              • +2

@Luckyalways: Oh this means you have a $20 Amazon GC on your account, and it was applied to your order of $105.

Thus your AMEX offer/credit will NOT be activated.

You better go buy a $15 amazon egift card so that amex statement shows $85 + $15 thus $100 or more.

                • @Turd: yea exactly right. Funny thing is that they would have missed out on the $20 cashback thinking they already got the cashback

                  • +1

@gimme: Yeah. So if they follow my advice above they will get the $20 credit back from AMEX.
If not, they wont get it.

That $20 was just a bonus in their AMAZON account, not AMEX.

                    :D

                    • +1

@Turd: His name may not check out if he doesn't follow your advice lol

          • +2

@Luckyalways: Are you sure you paid $85 when you checked out with Amex? Don't think that's how Amex credit works. You pay the full amount with Amex, then Amex deducts the credit in your next statement.

            • +2

@[Deactivated]: He's confused and/or confusing others. Disregard. You are correct.

              • +2

@gimme: correct. best is to ignore that lucky guy

              • +1

@gimme: lol following this thread and he confuses the crap out of me, thanks for your clarifications

  • +1

Prime day coming up, right? Hopefully a good chance to spend that $100.

  • My offer arrived by email at 10.35am on my primary card. I used it almost immediately and it worked beautifully. I use amazon regularly but don't always get offers on my card so this was nice.

  • Got on my essentials. But only via email, not in the app via offers. Weird.

  • +7

Excludes Amazon Australia digital purchases (including, but not limited to, eBooks and Apps).

Not sure if this exclude e-giftcards or not, will buy one and see how it goes.

    • +1

Thanks bruh, let us know how it goes

      • +3

Rep from Amex chat advised eGift Cards fall under digital purchase category & won't trigger the credit offer.
However, purchase of physical gift cards should be ok.

        • Well Amazon do sell both digital and physical gcs! I will wait to see how number5 gets on with his egift purchase first.

        • +3

100% you will get the credit regardless of what Amex Robot Chat says

          • @Turd: was an actual rep, not a robot. But yea I've got a feeling they don't know what they're talking about.
did you receive the $20 credit on egift card purchase?

            • @plal: It hasnt been 3 days yet. Credits always occur 3-4 days after the transaction is posted.

"Credit should appear on your billing statement within 5 business days from qualifying spend but may take up to 90 days from the offer end date."

            • @plal: No $20 credit email from AMEX after buying $100 egiftcard. Only spending tracking email shown up.

              • +3

@andylch: They don't always send emails. I didn't get an email from Amex when I spent $50 at BP, but the the $10 credit was taken off the statement.
