Blocked by an eBay Seller?

Hi all.

I purchased item A from the seller the other day.

After a week I accidentally purchased another item B, the same as A from the seller.

Right after I clicked "Confirm & Pay" from eBay, I noticed I have got item A already.

So I messaged the seller to cancel the order.

The seller replied to me after a day saying it is shipped, it can't be cancelled unless I "reject the shipment".

However, I was out for work when the delivery came.

The seller refused to return it for free. I have to pay the postage.

I contacted eBay after the rejection of the seller. eBay provided me with a return label.

After returned for a week, I still haven't got any refund amount from the seller.

I have to contact eBay support again, eBay sent the refund amount instantly.

After all these (around 3 weeks) I left negative feedback to the seller.

Recently found an interesting item on eBay which I can use the 22% off voucher.

Tried to buy it but got an error:

"An item you selected wasn't added to your cart because the seller won't sell to buyers who don't meet their requirements."
Two different sellers got the same item, one of the sellers was the one I had the item A, I cant buy both of them.

So am I blocked by the sellers? Anything I could do to purchase it?

First time got this issue on eBay.

Thanks all.

Thanks all for the comments, lesson learned.

Time to change my feedback to the seller and have a talk.

Yes you're blocked as deemed too much of a headache/risk to do business with. You can purchase from somewhere else or create a new account I guess.

  • +59

Stuffed them around and left negative feedback due to your stuff-up… no wonder they blocked you

      • +40

To not do it in the first place? Pretty hard to 'accidentally' buy an item on eBay!

At the very least, you don't leave neg feedback due to your stuff-up. They did nothing wrong. You bought an item, they sent the item.

        • +27

And they've lost money because of your stuff-up. Why would they want to do further business with you and risk losing more money.

      • +22

        A few things:-

        1) Cop the cost of the item on the chin as it's your fault and eBay sellers are not obligated to refund.

        2) If you must refund, at least have courtesy to pay the return postage yourself as it's your change of mind.

        3) Give them more than a week to process refund before complaining to eBay and forcing their hand.

That seller is now out of pocket, have negative feedback AND an eBay default case on their record, because of you, and you're wondering why they might not want to deal with you again?

Step 1 - stop being an aso hole

        step 2 - profit

I would of blocked you too if i was them.

  • +5

The seller seemingly fired you as a customer.. You can message them and ask them to unblock, but I think you need to spread the misery amongst many shopkeepers instead of just that one store.

    • +2

OP does not have a leg to stand on. It was a "change of mind" return, not a warranty return. OP in this thread would lose if they took this to VCAT.

  • +10

i'd block you from ozbargain from the way you write

  • +20

As a long time casual eBay seller, anyone who provides any sort of headache gets an instant block. I've got no time for people who cancel orders seconds after ordering, don't read descriptions, or have regret because the $150 item bought for $20 doesn't fit as they didn't bother to check measurements.

This is what's happened to OP. It has cost the seller money because you still get charged PayPal fees in instances like this and these are not refunded. Being blocked for being a PITA is fully justified.

    • +3

Same, as a seller if you ask stupid questions or appear 'trouble', you go on the blocklist.

People think ebay sellers are businesses, and yes lots are, but there are lots of personal sellers and crap like the OP pulled, means they personally are out of pocket!

      • I would add that if the seller was a business, they'd be out of pocket too and it's their livelihood. Between the horrendous Ebay fees and Ebay unfairly siding with buyers, I think only sellers taking advantage of the (artificially) cheap Chinese postage costs are the main ones surviving on Ebay.

  • +2

You can't leave negative feedback as a seller now so I block anyone who messes me around. Plenty people taking the mick these days on eBay, bidding with no intention of paying.

  • +9

    Why edit the original post?

I understand we can view the revisions but just add an update, don't delete it.

    • +6

      Typical reaction these days:
      1. Posts story hoping for sympathy
      2. Gets splashback/unfavourable consensus
      3. Cues post deletion/disableduser

    • +3

OP is no doubt embarassed !
For our part, at the first sign of trouble we do not hesitate to put buyers on our eBay blocked list. In the past 5 years we have built up a blocked list of 201 buyers - I wonder if OP is on our list as well?

        • +1

I’m not a business owner / ebay seller and have no intention of becoming one, mainly because of
          clients/customers like OP.

    • +1

Sterilising the past is the way theses days, you look at people deleting their past twitter messages…

Shoot first, think later seems to be the way of the times. Then, attempts to delete all past messages, because (facepalm)…

      EDIT: Hooray to @Baysew

Can you post a link to the original item in question that you purchased? Usually if they have a returns policy it will include 'change of mind' purchases. I doubt the buyer would of done anything wrong…

    • +2

Usually the policy is buyer pays for return post for change of mind (which is fair enough)
OP opened a case and got eBay to generate a return label which would come at the seller's cost.

    • +2

That’s assuming there was a change-of-mind policy, which is not always the case nor an entitlement.
Secondly, the seller did provide a return option for OP (‘reject the delivery’) which the OP also failed to follow.
OP then took to Ebay chargeback AND left negative feedback.
I would also block OP, no businesses, big or small, need this kind of bs.

      • That's dodgy telling the OP to reject the delivery thereby making Australia post pay for it. Doesn't Ebay advertise free returns for ebay plus members? I want to see the original link to the item and more details about their return policy and whether OP is an ebay plus member etc…

  • +8

Seller had to pay postage both ways and got a neg. No wonder they blocked you.

  • +4

People then wonder why prices goes up…

  • +5

People just don't to take responsibilities for their own mistakes…

  • +8

Whats your ebay username OP? I want to block you too!

  • Is this a $2.00 cable, or a $1500 phone your talking about?

  • Paypal has refunded returns when the payment method is through Paypal:

    https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/returns

So am I blocked by the sellers? Anything I could do to purchase it?

Make a new ebay account and purchase through the new account

    • +1

I don’t recommend this option. There are a few reasons why:

If you create a new account and buy from the seller and the seller detects that you are the same person then they can report you and you can end up banned completely from eBay for violating their rules. Or

If eBay’s system tracks the purchase and finds out that you’re the same person who brought from a seller who blocked you they can automatically ban you for life. They track ip addresses use cookies and other technology to do this.

You can try and communicate with the seller but if they have completely blocked you then you may not have any choice because it means that they won’t even receive your message. The only thing then is to. take a deep breath and move on. If you’ve bought something generic then you should easily be able to find the item at another eBay seller’s store.

As a long time seller I tend to look at the buyer’s feedback if there is a problem. If their feedback is low then I know that they’re still learning and am most of the time forgiving. (There’s the odd one that feels you should burn in hell and yes they get blocked). But if they are nice about it I send them an explanation and normally they then understand what they have done. If the feedback is several hundred or thousand I end up blocking them if the reason is not genuine or they are rude. I had once where a buyer’s four year old bought a whole lot of stuff and I let it go when the buyer explained. So unauthorized purchases do happen.

Hopefully your seller will be a bit understanding if you can still send messages to them to explain the situation and if you can to make things right with them if you want to buy from them again.

For future reference. If you pay via paypal it has a refunded returns where you have up to 8 postage paid returns to the value of $45 postage per return. If the seller is understanding then use your free returns via paypal to send it back if the seller accepts. Note this is not automatic and you need to register for refunded returns on your paypal account.

      Hope that helps.

  • +4

The seller refused to return it for free. I have to pay the postage.

Orders product by mistake as you forgot tou ordered it already, so requests a change of mind refund after its been shipped. Now you want the seller to pay for return shipping on top of being out for the shipping costs to you in the first place?!

hahaha yeah no it doesn't work like that.

I left negative feedback to the seller.
one of the sellers was the one I had the item A, I cant buy both of them.

Lets see, caused the seller to be out of pocket for shipping costs to you and then the return shipping cost back to them (around $18 in total)

Then to top it off you left them neg feedback. eBay takes a dim view on sellers with neg feedback/returns and deranks them in the search listing if they get too many.

Now you act all surprised the seller doesn't want to 'sell' to you anymore and blocked you from buying from them?

Can you see anything here you might have done to upset the seller?

  • +2

OP sounds just like that annoying mutt that doesn’t know any better

  • +13

Wow. Change of mind return and you wanted them to pay postage costs and then you left them negative feedback? People like you are the reason I stopped selling on EBay.

    • and their fuggin stupid fees these days.

      • I was swapped to the new managed payments system by force today, will let you know how it goes.

        • Chick at works son sold a decent PC he built up last week, 2100ish fees were $250ish - kid is shattered was relying on the funds to build his new machine.

          • +2

@pharkurnell: While I agree fees are stupid high, it's kind of the kid's fault for not checking the fees before selling

            • -2

@FireRunner: He is too young for his own account, it was on his mums account,
she saw the 'free week' for putting items up - she thought it was all free…
yea blonde… but very very cute in tight jeans though so all is forgiven

              • @pharkurnell: Ah, yes. There selling promotions can be misleading for those new to eBay.

          • +1

@pharkurnell: That's the killer with eBay. What I do when it comes to getting bigger items sold is look for promos where there are no Final Value Fees. As an example, if I listed an item on Gumtree I would usually get an offer and link from gumtree on placing the ad that I can list it with no Final Value Fees on eBay, so that's a little work-around I do.

    • Selling on eBay is the worst, I once sold an item, seller launched an "item is faulty" and eBay sided with him. End up paying $30 for shipping. Never again

  • +4

Thanks all for the comments, lesson learned.

Time to change my feedback to the seller and have a talk.

Too little, too late but I think you should amend your negative feedback anyway since the seller didn't deserve it

  • +3

I seriously can't stand eBay buyers like OP. I'm glad they blocked you. I block any buyers who try refunding items using ridiculous excuses or purchase the goods then don't pay for the item.
