Just realising I never heard anything about that free pair…

  • +11

Thank god I dont have to see that stupid advertisement anymore

    • +10

They should give a pair free just to watch their advertisements!

    • +4

Step one: try different advertising campaign

      • +4

        This is nothing but Marketing….

        • For new customers only

        • Limited to 1 pair (not mentioned but you find out later in the order process)

          • All extras are at full price, who would ever want just 1 pair of undies?

Seems I've been silenced with over 20 neg votes on my original post (below)… Suspect the same is about to happen again… lets see….

P.S. Is marketing like this even allowed on OzBargin? or is it a grey area? (As others have said Kmart copies are significantly cheaper at everyday prices people would not call a bargain but these somehow are?)

        • +10

You're getting negged because you're whinging about getting negged.

They very rarely go on sale, people who own them reckon they're great and the "first time customer only" is easy to get around.

Yes, they're marked up (what isn't). But the Kmart ones didn't exist a month ago and step one is the only place to get multiple colours. Plenty of options if you don't care about colours. Even Kmart only has black and green.

Yes, the marketing is ridiculous, but the jocks are good. Life's too short to wear bad undies.

The Kmart ones are great, and I hope they bring more out in more styles, but until then, this is a bargain.

EDIT: If you only want to pay around $15 a pair, then you have other options. These sound like they'd be closer to your price range (40% off for a 8 pack) https://theperfectunderwear.com/products/bamboo-boxer-briefs…

Also check out https://frankandbeans.com.au/men/anti-chafe/bamboo-trunks-bl… which are also on sale. I don't have any personal experience with these ones as yet though.

            @thedavemiester: @thedavemiester

I understand some of what you are saying but respectfully disagree, offering NEW customer only one item at a reduce price is not a bargain as most people need more than 1, it's a marketing ploy/advertisement and nothing more…

Because something does not come in a wide range of colours does not make a brand that offers more colours but sells at over 3x the cost a bargain in my books…

Thank you for the alternative product links though I will check into those (appreciated!)

            • +4

@Jonc: I'd say the point is to get people to try one before going all in.

Why would you buy multiples of something you don't even know you'll like?

              • +1

@andresampras: My point exactly, it's not a bargain, its a marketing ploy to get people paying full price…

I'll give the Kmart ones a try at $6… almost a buy 1 get 4 free deal haha

                • @Jonc: Do you direct evil stares at, for example, Baker's Delight staff every time you walk past?

                  Also, you must hate Costco

                • +1

                  @Jonc: Agree

              • @andresampras:

Why would you buy multiples of something you don't even know you'll like?

Why would you buy multiples when you can wear them right way, back to front, then inside out, then inside out back to front.

            • @Jonc: Any time a business has a promotion, even free stuff, it's marketing…

          • +1

@thedavemiester: Which ones are the KMART undies?

          • @thedavemiester: +1 for negging the negger whinger, but I own them and don't think they're great. Pros and cons - overall leading to average and would only consider buying again at 1/2 price.

    • +17

The discount code is for half price on one pair.

    • +2

      It's for one pair.

    • -2

      Wow 4 down votes? Really?

I found out it was for one pair only.. it perhaps should be in the description of title (I would have not even bothered if I had known ahead of time and just wanted to let others know as well…)

Still don't understand why the down votes but anyway…

      • +2

no don't make suggestion about headers to save people time - they are ads and this an advertising business…

  • +9

Just got shipment from last week. I needed new undies anyways…got the +fly one…comfy but not mind blowing by any means. Not sure I'm convinced with the length as well - not much more but I think would prefer the shorter 'trunks' version. In saying that, materials are great so I will try out the KMart ones instead for $6/8 (Seems to be an OzB recommendation haha).

    • Yeah I got the shorter ones. Wanted the fly but the long ones are annoying to me

    • +2

I got one too. Not sure if anyone else had this issue but mine are a bit too tight, despite my checking the size chart. As in it's fine when standing up but sitting down causes discomfort after a while.

Anyway maybe these would be good in summer but i don't like the 'cool' feeling in the current weather. Kind of the same reason I don't like wearing quick-dry clothing (think sport t-shirts)

I'll probably stick to my Uniqlo Supimas

      • I find their sizing is a tad too tight, small is too tight around the waist so asked them to send med pair using their first pair guarantee policy.

All other brands (bonds, adidas, ck etc…) I've used small always fits perfectly.

        • +1

first pair guarantee policy, you say?

Damn I was ready to chuck em

          • @andresampras: Yeah just email them and ask them to send you another pair that you think will fit you better.

            • @duckieboy: Well I've emailed, but just saw the note in the email that says they'll only swap over unopened packs. Let's see what mood their customer service team is in.

              • @andresampras: Below is their policy

                https://stepone.life/pages/faqs

                Our First Pair Guarantee

We are so confident you'll love your Step Ones, we'll give you a FULL REFUND on your FIRST PAIR if you don't like them for whatever reason. Alternatively if you buy a pair and they don't fit, keep that pair, get in touch and we'll send you out a different size or style.

If you order a multi-pack, say 4, try one pair on, not happy, keep it, return the 3 unopened and unworn pairs and we'll send you out 4 pairs of the new size or style, or we will refund your total order value. Can this get any easier? #DeRiskedToTheMax 😎

Enjoying my new Kmart bamboos for $6 a pair :~)

    • +1

I also bought these last week :)

Amazingly comfy, but are yours a bit see through? Cause my mrs commented she could definitely see crack when the fabric stretches a little

      • +29

        quit your boasting.

        • i thinks she meant from the front , nothing hanging down to obscure the view….

        • +6

I think you meant bamboasting ;)

    • +1

Hope the bamboos aren't hurting much!

    • +2

Bought one from reading all the posts, cost $8 though! But they are epic best undies i've ever worn. No chafing at all

      • +4

The longer length ones are $8, the shorter ones are $6

        • +1

So 6+8=14 for two pairs and still save 50
          Cents.

    • +3

Quality is a bit iffy with the Kmart ones. One pair I got has a hole already (not worn) and the other had stitching come undone in the washing machine.

You get the quality you pay for.

      • +6

I've got a pair of Step Ones that had a hole open under the waistband after about three wears.

        • I did have that once before and step one replaced them no problem.

I could probably get Kmart to refund for faulty product. But for $6 I can't be bothered

        • Same happened to one of my five pairs. In the bin. 4 pairs surviving with pilling - so ok for around the house.

      • +2

My Kmart undies are holding up better than Step One

  • +2

Yeah, Kmart has completely copied this for $8.00

    • +3

Haha someone in the previous thread posted this link: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Custom-best-underwear…

I do like the +fly version though (Doesn't look like Kmart have em).

      • lol, step one will sue them??

        • +2

Here's the AliBaba link for bulk drop shipping - not sure what sort of case they'd have to make!!

          https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Custom-best-underwear…

          • @Doy: Anyone got a leg length for this by any chance?

            Hate short boxers

        • +1

Can't believe they buy them for $3 and resell them for 20!

          • @dresh: Prob $1.38

Its still pretty time consuming to make yourself

        • +6

It's probably what step one is buying and labelling as step one

          • @asa79: Yep this. I have asked this company previously regarding samples/smaller order numbers. They'll do whatever logo/colour you want.

          • @asa79: No probably about it - look at the last photo; it literally has the Step One logo in it

          • @asa79: Agreed. Enough step one for me, the mark up is ridicolous!

      • +3

        ok, so… US$1.38 wholesale, A$29 retail.
"discounted" to $14.50 is a bargain.
        sounds about right.

        • +1

You really need to consider what it costs to import and sell a product in Australia.

They've probably spent a lot of money to market this and get to the point where they're actually profitable.

          • @knk: the packaging probably isn't cheap either - it's all socially responsible biodegradable 'plastics'. Not sure what exactly it's made of but yeah can't be cheap.

      • +6

Surely all of us ozbargainers should join together and release the Ozbargain Jocks. Screw Stepone and its ridiculous markup

        • +1

          Group Buy?

        • Designed with a larger pouch for all your Eneloops…

    • +7

don't step one just buy the same generic undies and then slap their own brand on it? i thought they didn't actually make them, just overpriced resellers who spend way too much on advertising

      • +1

prob social marketing, anyone being paid from step one?

    • +3

Cheers for that, if anyone is interested you can find the links to the K-Mart version below:

      Anti-Ride Bamboo Blend Trunks - $6
      https://www.kmart.com.au/product/anti-ride-bamboo-blend-trun…

Anti-ride Mid Length Bamboo Blend Trunks - $8 (Longer?)
      https://www.kmart.com.au/product/anti-ride-mid-length-bamboo…

      • +1

Yeah, I got the mid length, which has been great.

  • i need a buy it for life underwaer, even uniqlo getting holes after 5 years.

    • +5

      Just get an underwear tattoo.

    • You can patch the holes using this and you may be good for another 5 years! https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/313015442905?hash=item48e12c9dd9…

    • +1

Bought some Oroton undies 10 years ago. They still look new. Unfortunately they don't make them anymore.

      • prob went out of business if it really is Buy it for life….

    • I have some "Jockey" which are older than 5 years, still good.

  • They're exxy but I rate them.
Can you put a price on daily crotch comfort?

    • +12

      $14.50

      • +1

…only if you use the same pair every single day…

  • Would these be suitable for gym? I.e. lifting workout etc?

    • +31

No. The bamboo fabric contains zero muscle or even a basic circulatory system.

      • 😂

    • why not just get some compression pants/shorts?

  • +3

Got my pair from last week. Not bad but definitely not as perfect as the hype makes it out but i guess YMMV

  • Thanks OP 🙇

Short on undies and have been looking to give StepOne a go. Got the Golden Nuggets…

  • I'll need new underpants if I have the displeasure of seeing their ad on TV again. Clever marketing.

  • The tradie ones are far more comfortable.

  • 2 or 3 pack CK boxers go for $30 some at t k max. Are these better than CK

  • +6

Am I the only one that doesn’t watch enough TV to know about their supposed annoying marketing campaigns?

    • +7

You are not alone. Commercial TV is trash. Plex + ABC = Winning

    • They advertise on TV? I thought they only advertised online. Shows I dont watch much FTA TV.

    • I only had the displeasure because youtube had updated thier anti anti ad block code for a few weeks and this was the hot main ad while it was broke.

Thank geebus ublock fixed it eventually and i never had to see another youtube ad again.

  • +2

I ordered one in the last deal, wearing them today and super comfy. I do rate them. Probably not at $29 each though.

    • +1

      Indeed, but 2 for $29 I'll take a crack at (Brought 2)

  • Make sure you pick the right version. I got the boxers last time, which are for people with big legs. I've got gangly legs, gonna try the trunks

  • this is the ducks nuts

  • +1

waiting for EOFY sale, bought 15 pr for 11.90 each last year
    hope same applies this year

  • Buy extra extra small for compression shorts, if they're that good quality

  • Love mine 🤗

  • I'm wearing gone now. While the fit is pretty good, there's room to grow 😂
